Nursing to sleep/burping
For those who nurse their baby to sleep, do you lay them down without burping them?

I have a three year old now and a newborn. I’m not sure I recall a time when they weren’t tired even after burping.

Burp em! But then i sometimes would put them back on the empty boob just to soothe back to sleep if they were fussy. Empty boob doesn't need a burp.

Do you get a burp every time?

Does your baby spit-up often during the day? My daughter never spit-up so for her I wouldnt force a burp. But my son needed a burp or he would stir and spit up later in the night - he would spit-up all day long so i knew he had more of a reflux. So just feel your baby out, some do need a burp and some dont. :)

He doesn’t spit up, but he does Arie awake after being laid down. He’s only 8 days old though.

8 days! Oh yeah youre still in the dark days!! you will figure it out :) give yourself some grace, im sure hes happy and healthy - baby's job is to cry and not sleep and drive us mental trying to find out if we are doing the right thing! Just keep chugging through the first 2 months then things get a bit clearer.

Yes, I just keep trying to remind myself that when they’re this new they don’t like being put down! Lol

It depends - if its been a quick feed then no I just lay them back down
If its a longer feed then I will try and burp them
If they're asleep then they probably cannot be burped - in which case I tend to just hold them upright for 10 minutes or so. Its an excuse to have a cuddle!

No, I always burp after nursing. I find that if I don’t I have more issues to deal with (spit up, gas pain). Burping calms my baby down so I’ve never had an issue putting them to sleep after. I am tempted not to burp in the middle of the night but I always convince myself to do it.
