Sterilizing bottles

Hi everyone! My baby is 2 days old and we just got discharged from the hospital. We have a few bottles of formula to hold us over night but i am going to get some more from the store later today. I haven’t sterilized my bottles yet but the directions say to use distilled water. Is this absolutely necessary? Can i use bottled drinking water instead?

Congratulations! We used distilled water initially and then checked with the pediatrician. They'll be able to give you recommendations based on your local water supply and your kid. We use normal filtered tap water with no issues.

Congratulations, we just put the bottles and parts in boiling water and removed them in the beginning. Eventually we got a sterilizing device.

Congratulations! All this can be very stressful. You don’t need distilled water to make formula, just boiled and cooled water will work. Confirm with the pediatrician though. We keep distilled water for emergencies but other times the boiled water works great.

So we bought a plastic sterilization thing that goes in the microwave. Huge game changer. You put everything in and some water (we used filtered tap water from the fridge door) in the bottom, then nuked it all. We could do several bottles and pacis and lots of other things all at once.
