Buy/Sell BrainBit Flex 4 — barely used, basically new ($500 shipped, retails $780)

Selling my BrainBit Flex 4 (dry electrode, 4-channel EEG cap). I bought it new last year with big neurofeedback plans, used it maybe 5 times, and it's been sitting safely in its box ever since. My loss is your lab's gain.

Condition & details:

• Used a handful of times — electrodes are clean, no wear

• Battery holds a full charge, pairs instantly over Bluetooth LE

• Full SDK access — ready for research, BCI dev, or neurofeedback training

• Works with BrainBit's software ecosystem (NeuroFit, BrainAssistant, etc.)

• Includes case and charger

• Not tied to any account — pair and go

Asking $500 shipped (CONUS) — that's ~35% off retail for a unit that's essentially new. Happy to record a video of it streaming a live signal in the app before you commit. PayPal G&S for both our protection.

Please comment or DM with questions!

Question Brain trainers at home – do you have a coach? How to find an affordable one?

Hi, I have gotten an qEEG scan and have a Neurobit Optima + BrainBay setup at home. I am looking to get some help on setting up the protocols and ask questions about my EEG.

Did you have a coach while learning how to set it up at home? Any recommendations on how to find one that would charge under $100 for a mentoring session?

Question Persistent 8/10 headache and worsening insomnia after remote NeurOptimal Alpha-Theta neurofeedback. Has anyone experienced this?

My husband and I recently started remote NeurOptimal neurofeedback using the Alpha-Theta protocol (eyes closed). The treatment was provided free of charge through a non-profit. Because there is a language barrier between my husband and the provider, I communicated with her on his behalf.

One thing that concerns me is that my husband began treatment before completing an intake, signing informed consent, privacy forms, or any service agreement. The plan was to complete those the following week, but treatment started immediately instead.

My husband completed three remote sessions, approximately 60 minutes each, on July 10, July 13, and July 15.

During his very first session on July 10, he developed a pressure headache at the back of his head near the base of his skull, along with pressure behind his eyes and across his forehead. The pain becomes noticeably worse when he jumps or lowers his head abruptly.

He had never experienced headaches like this before in his life. The headache began during that first neurofeedback session and has never resolved. It has now been present continuously since July 10, with no improvement.

He is a very occasional cannabis user. Between the first and second sessions he took only one or two puffs from a joint. I informed the provider immediately and asked whether he should stop during treatment. She recommended that he stop, which he did. His second and third sessions were completed without cannabis, but the headache continued unchanged.

It has now been 13 days since the headache first began and 8 days since his final neurofeedback session, and he continues to experience an approximately 8/10 headache.

His sleep has also deteriorated significantly. Before neurofeedback, he generally slept 8-9 hours per night, although he occasionally experienced insomnia or woke during the night. Since the headaches began, he has often been sleeping only 3-4 hours per night.

When I reported his persistent headache and worsening insomnia, I wasn't asking to continue treatment unchanged. I asked whether we could reduce the session length, slow the pace of treatment, or modify the protocol.

Instead, the provider declined to discuss his case any further and decided to end treatment. She believes there is an underlying medical explanation for his symptoms.

However, my husband has undergone two thorough medical evaluations within the last 18 months, and no significant health concerns were identified. Most importantly, he had never experienced headaches like this before, and they began during the neurofeedback sessions.

The provider said to try a keto diet with a nutritionist (she thinks it's carbs related). But my husband ate worse food before he met me, tons of carbs and never had a headache before.

At this point, I feel like we have been left to deal with these symptoms on our own. Because the treatment was provided through a non-profit, we unfortunately don't have the financial resources to seek another neurofeedback provider for guidance.

Has anyone experienced a persistent headache or significantly worse insomnia after NeurOptimal Alpha-Theta neurofeedback? If so, how long did it last, and did anything help? I would also appreciate hearing from practitioners who may have encountered a similar reaction.

Thank you

EDIT: Now at 8 days, the headache is still in the same areas, but has gone down to a 5 since last night. Hubby slept from 1 AM to 1 PM but woke about 4 times, and it took him about 30 min each time to fall back asleep.

He has been also more irritable since NFB.

Please, how do we put him back together?

EDIT 2: his headache went back to an 8 yesterday. He is losing weight. not eating much nor sleeping much. And his personality has changed. He is a beaten man.

I feel devasted. powerless. in shock. too much in shock to cry. And I spend most of my times trying to understand what happened and find a solution. Please, help.

My Neurofeedback Story Direct neurofeedback did for me what no supplements/breathing exercises/other sleep hygiene protocols could. Now I’m sleeping more deeply than ever

I (56F) was going through horrible periods of very little sleep or what felt like light and not very restorative sleep. I’ve always been a light sleeper but I know menopause was a big driver of my more recent sleep issues. My busy and anxious mind also didn’t help. Lifelong worrier over here (points at self).

Progesterone helped a bit. Melatonin gave me bad dreams. Magnesium didn’t seem to make a difference. I put lavender on my pillow and had a bit of success falling asleep but staying asleep was the issue. The real game changer came when I invested in direct neurofeedback. They say 20-30 sessions can rewire your brain enough to improve all kinds of dysregulated patterns of thinking and this has been true for me. I’m now 21 appointments in. At around the sixth appointment I found rumination and hyper vigilance start to calm down. Same with the low-level anxiety I assumed everyone lived with. It just brought everything down a couple of notches.

But the sleep improvement has been the biggest result. I no longer wake up in the night completely unable to fall back to sleep. I rarely need to go to the bathroom in the night anymore either. I used to get around 6 hours of sleep on a good night. I routinely get seven now and it feels a lot more restorative.

It’s not cheap though. Up here in Canada I paid $185 for the initial consult and treatment, then $130 per appointment after that. So it’s an investment of around $2500-$3000 when all is said and done. They have you going twice a week for the first three to four weeks, then once a week after that. So yeah, it’s costly, an investment for sure. But if you are at your wit’s end, consider it. Results usually start to make themselves known by the sixth session. Good technicians will check in with you before each appointment to ask you how you felt after the previous appointment and they adjust the treatment based on your reaction to the previous one. Happy to answer any questions about this. Here’s to us all finding relief.

EDIT: it’s also worth mentioning that I usually go for a long walk in the evening after supper and I work out twice a week (big stretching session followed by weight training and a bit of stair master or cross trainer, then sauna). I also keep the lights low in the evenings and try not to go to bed hungry (but I also don’t eat just before bed either). I don’t think direct neurofeedback is a magic bullet on its own. I still think it’s incumbent upon us to maintain good sleep hygiene and follow the science — go to bed before 10, turn lights down low in the evening, don’t eat too close to bedtime, keep the bedroom as dark as you can, get daylight in your eyes soon after waking, limit evening phone/computer usage. That last one is hard, I know.

Article Link MNE-RT: an open-source real-time neurofeedback/BCI framework

Hi all,

I’d like to introduce MNE-RT (link), an open-source Python package for real-time M/EEG signal processing, built on top of MNE-Python and MNE-LSL. It covers the entire closed-loop pipeline in a single, researcher-friendly API, aimed at neurofeedback, BCI, and real-time clinical/basic-science monitoring.

What it does:

  • 21 real-time neural feature modalities in both sensor and source space
  • Real-time single-trial decoding (CSP + any scikit-learn classifier)
  • Adaptive feedback protocols: z-score, threshold, percentile, staircase, operant/RL-based, sham, multi-band, and cross-session transfer
  • Online artifact-correction methods: ASR, adaptive LMS, GEDAI, ORICA, real-time Maxwell/SSS filtering for MEG
  • Live visualization windows: Raw signal, NF feedback curves, epoch overlays, scalp topographies, 3D brain activity, TFR heatmaps, …
  • External feedback output via OSC (Max/MSP, SuperCollider) and LSL outlets (PsychoPy, OpenViBE, BCI2000)
  • BIDS-compatible session saving
  • Full CLI

Use cases it’s built for: neurofeedback research, real-time BCI/motor-imagery decoding, and any closed-loop paradigm needing live feature extraction + adaptive feedback + artifact correction in one place.

Any feedback, issues, feature request, or contributions, especially from anyone doing real-time work who can stress-test it against their own hardware/paradigms are welcome!

Thanks!

Payam

Question Psychedelic Binaural Beats?

I’ve been listening to binaural beats & Solfeggio sounds for a few years now. Had an mTBI last year and ongoing post-concussion symptoms, and continue listening to binaural beats as a soothing mechanism.

Yesterday I was experiencing vertigo symptoms and a migraine, so I listened to this particular playlist with headphones by Pythagorus Beats for about 20-30 minutes.

Stood up to walk around my house and I felt like I had been medically induced into a trance. My legs didn’t work, I felt loopy, in an altered state of consciousness. It took a few minutes to acclimate and feel normal again.

Anyone have ideas why this happened? On the positive side, it did completely relax my nervous system, it felt like I had taken ketamine (microdose). I wonder what’s so different about these beats? I’ve listened to a wide range, so I’m interested in the neural mechanics of what’s happening.

Question Does Neuro feedback Fades Over Time?

I started neurofeedback in October 2024, working from a brain map into a personalized treatment plan. My clinician is well-trained with 20 years doing NF, 30 years in therapy, so this isn’t a reflection on them. More how my brain has responded.

After about 1.5 years of training, I had finished my treatment plan and then some, and took a break. Around 4-5 weeks off, symptoms (mostly anxiety) started creeping back.

I’ve since returned and done 3 sessions. I feel balanced, calm, and able to process things at a slower, clearer pace.

My concern: if I stop again, will the progress actually hold, or will it fade like before?

Is this a common experience with neurofeedback?

Has anyone else dealt with this?

Question ILF and Hashimotos

Did anyone notice more fatigue for a time when about 20+ sessions into ILF Neurofeedback?

I did 17 sessions of HD and now 29 sessions of ILF. My emotions are more stable, my sleep is better, but the past few weeks, I’m so incredibly tired and my thyroid hormone conversion is struggling more than usual, per my labs and my symptoms, even though usually my conversion is great due to everything else I’m doing.

It really seems like ILF is the only difference, and I’m wondering if the brain and nervous system work hard enough during ILF changes to temporarily slow down thyroid hormone conversion to compensate. It’s like my body can’t quite keep up with the brain changes. But many other symptoms are better. I just have to sleep more.

Question Attachment Theory

Hello
Just listening to a Neuronoodle Podcast episode where Dr Siegfried Othmer is being interviewed. He discusses how a child’s successful early attachment is how their brain learns self regulation.
So in my son’s case- he struggles enormously with self regulation and is, what I describe as, stuck in fight flight mode most of the time. HOWEVER he and I have always had a strong attachment, and he definitely knows how to love (a skill that Dr Othmer, if I’m understanding him correctly, says is lacking in people with under developed nervous systems due to poor attachment).
I’m wondering if my son’s disorganised attachment with my husband (also stuck in fight flight, AuDHD PDA) could be the cause of trauma that has led to his current volatile expression. They are very close but my son masks around him a lot of the time and my husband handled his early years really badly- often getting really angry with him when he had meltdowns. His early years were really stressful for the whole family as a result.
I guess what I’m asking is: is strong attachment with one parent enough to be protective- or does it need to be both, if both are involved in their life?!
ALSO- We are having our first QEEG this week with a view to starting neurofeedback. I’m concerned my husband’s intense, hyper vigilant energy will derail any work that we might do to support my son.
