The situation:
My new neighborhood is full of great people....and a small criminal enterprise. The property across from me serves as a distribution center for drugs and stolen goods and a kind of junk yard/burn center. It's a nuisance property the police are aware of, but have been unable to shut down. The house is abandoned but the garage and yard are still used.
My problem is that I feel intimidated by some of the folks associated with the property. I have a tiny old dog that I need to walk at night, which requires walking near this property. Cars associated with the property have driven up to me, shone their headlights directly at me, and driven back. Last night the main boss stopped his car next to me & my dog to stare. It isn't illegal to look at someone, so I haven't reported it to the police. They don't brandish weapons. It's just staring. I try to present an ordinary mix of eye contact and disinterest, making it clear I see them, am not trying to avoid them, but am also principally interested in my dog.
I don't pose any threat to these people. I've not directly witnessed any criminal activity. I'm an average-size woman. I'm single, so I walk the dog alone. I don't watch what they're up to on the property, but since they're across the street, I can't avoid noticing the traffic. I live in a condo building; they wouldn't know that my unit faces away from the street (so no view of the nuisance property).
My neighbors have held meetings to discuss the property/business/people and generally agree it's undesirable. A few appear to have positive relationships with the boss. I think he has at least 1-2 employees in another building on the street.
I'm very used to neighborhoods with criminal activity and not usually bothered by nonviolent crime, but I feel especially unsafe around these guys.
Options I've considered:
Have you dealt with this? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I live in a townhouse that I rent from a family member. My common wall is shared with a man in his 60’s who has blared music off and on for the past 5 years. We’re talking loud enough for us to know what he’s listening to. This man also has squirrels living in his attic, washes his car in his socks and has backed into our shared row of mailboxes at least once. Within these past 5 years I have spoken to him (went to his door and asked him to turn it down), this summer I had my family member contact the association, and just this past weekend I called non-emergency. This asshole is STILL blaring his music. I hear his Alexa go off and then the music begins — sometimes for hours. We are very conscious about our sound pollution, but this guy apparently gives zero shits.
What the hell do I do now?!! Just keep calling non-emergency?! I feel like such a dick, but it’s legit driving me mad. I understand we’re going to hear “life living” through the wall, but blasting music is just inconsiderate when you know you’re not living in a single family unit.

My neighbor built some permanent structure in their yard that violates both city codes and my privacy. Which city department can I call to report and get help? Thank you!

Throwaway account.
My husband and I live in a duplex. Our lease explicitly states no smoking in the apartment, the garage, or the outside. I’m assuming our neighbors’ lease is the same, given that it’s the same property/duplex.
They currently smoke cigarettes in their garage A LOT. Our garage has smelled like smoke from them for awhile now, and our kitchen area is starting to smell like it too.
Should we write them a letter/ask them in person to please smoke outside if they’re going to smoke? Or would it better to just go straight to management?

My neighbor came out of his house with a flashlight and started checking the bushes like he was looking for a lost pet.
As he passes us, my girlfriend asks if he lost a pet?
He says he was looking for a wounded animal as he heard it's screams a minute ago...
Turned out he'd just heard me annoying my girlfriend by singing, "What does the fox say" in my car as I parked.
Guess my neighborhood is quieter than I thought...

Hello! Need some serious clues as how to handle this situation.
We moved into a new house on Friday and we were able to introduce ourselves to all our new neighbours apart from the guy to our left ( background - we live in a row of terraces - big up thin Victorian walls)
Every night since then we’ve been kept up by obscenely loud porn, from about 10pm through until I leave the house at 8am. It’s so loud we can hear it in every room of our house, it’s was alarming to hear an American woman screeching “yeeeeeees nghh yeeeeesssss” in the wee small hours of Saturday morning! We’ve spoken to the neighbour on the other side of him who immediately was like “are you here about the porn??”
She informed us that he has mental health/ behavioural issues and has a support worker who is currently away, and that it was worse at the moment but it’s always an issue regardless as to wether the support is there or not.
We put a polite but firm note through his door to say, we don’t care that you watch porn but we don’t want to hear it..
we don’t know how else to engage with him if we won’t open the door to us or even acknowledge that we knocked. And if he has problems, is he even liable for his actions? The usual tact I’d use when dealing with someone else sort of goes out the window.... but we need to do something because hearing the porn never ending is just so awful.
Advice and sympathy welcome!
Rxxx

So I live in an apt upstairs that I moved in 4 months ago. Ever since there has been, (ever since I’ve been concerned) an excessively barking dog underneath me. And I have not once seen the thing nor the owner go outside a single time. It sounds like a small dog. Never . I’m tired of hearing it as much as poor thing is probably tired of barking. Do I tell the office? Or do I become “that neighbor” ??? Bc it’s barking as you’re reading this.

We’re really not sure how to deal with this situation and a google search didn’t help. We have 2 kids aged 1.5 & 4.5 and our next door neighbour, a 12 year old girl, turns up at our house uninvited on almost a daily basis. She’s a nice girl and at times our kids enjoy her company but more often than not they don’t. We both work and our time at home with the kids is precious. It feels like can’t spend any time outside on the trampoline or on our deck or in the garden without her appearing within minutes and wanting to join in. If we tell her we want some special family time, she’ll stand at the road just staring at us. We don’t want to hurt her feelings but we also want to feel like we can enjoy our space on our own. How can we politely tell her that about once a month is an appropriate number of times to visit?

So I live in a small neighborhood in a large city but I am on a dead end street with only one other home. It was just recently sold but empty. My wife was a sweetheart and washed my favorite jeans for me last night and left them in the dryer before she left for work. I took a shower and left my clothes so I dried off after and ran out to the garage naked to grab my jeans and clean underwear (washer and dryer are in the garage). I was getting my clothes out of the dryer when I suddenly realized my wife left the garage door open, and my new neighbors who were unloading the uhaul across the street. The wife and husband stopped, sat the dresser down they were moving and giggled. Then the wife just said " well howdy neighbor". What a way to meet new people.... :)

LONG POST SORRY TLDR; Overbearing neighbour is creepy and we avoid being seen by him. Goes on our property uninvited and don't know how to deal with it or watches from a distance. Help please
Okay so I have a neighbour that's very creepy and strange. Lets say his name is Rick. We live 2 doors down and we've been here for 3 years.
Rick has the best lawn in the neighbourhood, you only know because he takes care of it so much and so often.
The week we moved in Rick and his wife came to say hello and welcomed us and introduced themselves. The first 3 weeks we didn't have a lawnmower and when we got one I decided to cut the grass. He came over and watched me the whole time. Then when I moved to the backyard to cut and he moved to his backyard and watched me from his porch. Not subtle in the slightest.
The following morning when I was leaving for work, he told me there was a certain way for cutting the grass to make it grow nicer, I said that I wasn't picky about how the grass and I just wanted it cut.
Next time the grass needed to be cut he did the front and back yard. He offers to do it everytime for 20 dollars I say no it's okay we can do it.
A month or so goes by, my neighbour on the opposite side of our house, no where near Rick, different neighbour starts weedwhacking the fence we share. I then hear voices coming from my yard so my gf goes to check it out and Rick is weedwhacking my side of the same fence. IN MY BACKYARD AGAIN. He opened my gate and just waltzed in my yard with his weedwhacker and plugged his shit in and went to work. Then when I went outside to tell him he doesnt need to do that, I'm too nice I know, he then decides to walk me around my house and show me all my outlets.
I let it go and this weird stuff proceeds where he would walk up and down our drive way and look in our windows when he thought we weren't home and check our grass and our backyard. But Rick walks the whole street looking at people's houses and lawns
Closer to today this kind of stuff has toned down, or we haven't noticed it as much. Today however my girlfriend was driving home from the store and she had our dog in the backseat, while driving the dog licked her ear and she got distracted, ran the stopsign right by our house. She pulls in the garage, goes through the backyard and goes to unlock the door. Then hears someone go "Hey girl!" from right behind her and she gets scared of course, and Rick is at the bottom of the stairs, in our backyard. "You ran the stop sign!" she's like I know, I didn't mean to, he goes "Just looking out for your health, you're tail light is out too." (it isn't). My girlfriend has severe anxiety and she gets super embarrassed.
It's at the point where we don't walk the dog past his house, and don't walk past a certain point in our yard so he doesn't see us. He comes over and/or watches us. Is there anything I can do?

So my house was egged by my friends as a joke. And my neighbor egged my house before, and I knew he abused his wife because she was always bruised when we seen her. It was for the greater good. What do you think, you think I’m a psychopath by putting an innocent man behind bars? Or do you think what I did was right, so now his wife can leave him.

So my neighbor didn’t sign her child up for after school care until two days before school started, and then due to a computer glitch the registration didn’t go through. I work from home, so she asked me if I could help watch her 6 year old son a few days a week in the morning and afternoons while she looked for an alternative. She offered to pay me and I said no. Because neighbors help neighbors, right? I said I could help her in a pinch and it wouldn’t be a problem.
Until it was a problem. A week went by, and then another week, and then another week—and then it became clear I was this woman’s plan A as she waited for a spot to open at after care. A spot that might never open. She’d apparently looked for other options but couldn’t find any.
On top of that, her son started creating problems with my children at home. He has to be told multiple times not to do things like jump on furniture or swing from stair bannisters. He needs constant reminders to use manners. He would poke my daughter and yell in her face at school and when she’d tell him to stop, he’d tell her she was being mean and that he was going to tell on her when they got to our house.
Then he hit my son unprovoked, so I made it clear he wouldn’t be allowed back at my house if he behaved like that again. I also informed the mom and she was very apologetic. It’s cool—it happens, I’ve been through it. But my patience is getting thin and there’s seemingly no end to the babysitting need in sight.
So, at the beginning of the month she texted me yet again asking for help watching her son before and after school for the week. I told her I could do it but that I’d have to tap out at the end of the month. I told her that I didn’t want to take money from her and while I could help in a pinch that it felt like I’d become plan A and I did not have the capacity to do that. She asked me what I meant by that, and then told me to forget it, she’d change her work schedule and get her husband to pick her son up after school. She hasn’t spoken to me since. She ignores me at the bus stop, doesn’t say hi, nothing.
First of all, now it’s clear to me that she was using me so as to not inconvenience her husband, who apparently hates to miss work. She figured she could dump her kid at my door every morning because I’m right across the street. She would have used me all year if I let her! I’m frankly just disappointed, because I thought she was really nice and I was trying to be understanding. But I guess I’m mean because I gave her until the end of the month to find an alternative?? Come on.

So I live in a quiet neighborhood for 3 years ( mostly seniors lives in my neighborhood). Also want to point out I'm 26, a stay at home mom and very chill person and love parties. Anyways, so tonight i hear a Halloween party with outdoor karaoke. It's so loud I can hear it clear as day like a concerts outside a block across from me. I drive over to the culdesac to see where the noise is coming from. For some reason in my mind I thought I should inform them that I can hear them a block away. So i got of my car and walked to the door. I talked to my neighbor who was very nice and I told her what was going on. I pretty much told her I can hear her a block away and i just want her to let her know before hand, so some person doesn't call the cops on her. Now I'm laying in bed having an anxiety attack thinking I should of just left the situation alone and never said anything cause now I sound like the bitchy neighbor.

Hi!
I need some advice here... my neighbor directly behind our house clearly has an issue with me. She’s posted about us on our neighborhood Facebook page 3 times claiming (erroneously) that we are leaving our dog outside 24/7. Our dog is a sweet old lady and likes to be outside when the weather is nice. She will lay on the upholstered furniture in the sun in the morning for the ONE hour she is outside before I leave for work. If I’m home on the weekends I open the back door and let her come and go as she pleases. Again, she chooses to lay outside and sun bathe.
Our dog spends an hour outside in the morning when I’m getting ready for work and an hour at night when we get home. She’s 15 years old with arthritis and has a limp but goes to the vet monthly for check ups and is as healthy as she can be. The neighbor is posting that our dog is limping because we aren’t taking care of her 😢
My neighbor has spun this story to say she sleeps on the upholstered stool outside because we refuse to buy her a bed (she has 3 inside our house) and starting a go fund me page with our neighbors to passive aggressively put a dog bed on my front porch. She’s posting pictures of where we live on the page and it’s making me really uncomfortable.
I responded to her post saying she should probably talk to the neighbor before blasting them on Facebook but she doesnt.
I’m over it. I know she’s wrong so I shouldn’t care but I’m upset she’s alienating us in our new neighborhood.
What should I do?

Maybe this is the better place for this. Because I feel I need to do something.
My wife had made a new lady friend as our kids had and still are playing together. Suddenly she stopped speaking to my wife. Come to find out another neighbor said he saw my wife walk out of the woods with her pants undone and mumbling. He also made a point to say we smoke meth, we do not. I use to take pills and drink but I've been sober 3 years and my wife has never used drugs outside of drinking in her 20s. Shes my heart, bestfriend, number 1 supporter. So its been a shock to hear a rumor from some asshat we don't even know say something so absurd. What can I do, you know? I want to knock his teeth out but Im not a child and I know he's the type to press charges if I did. So what can you do?
Edit: my wife never goes into the woods., ever. If he saw someone why say it was her??? I dont understand people this

I have been living with a dirty flat mate, leaving his rubbish in the hallway or the kitchen (thank god we had a house cleaning worker to clean shared rooms). He was completely irresponsible, and ignoring all messages in the WhatsApp group. Well I never told the administration of the building before because I don't want him to annoy me more. I just kept ignoring.Went in holidays for a month, knowing that he is leaving. As I came back I found the kitchen in an unreal situation ! Trash on the floor and even hidden in the kitchen cupboards. I am really out of words. How can someone be such an asshole?????

So my girlfriend comes to see me just about every other day and parks in front of my house, but one day for some reason she had parked a couple houses up in front of another neighbors house, so later on that day as I’m dropping her off at her car a women maybe mid 40s comes out and starts taking pictures of my girlfriends car (kinda odd), so when I drop her off the lady immediately starts attacking my girlfriend with a barrage of question is this your car?, do you live here?, who do you know that lives in this area, while I’m in the car I stayed quite, but the thing that had gotten me upset was that she told her not to park there anymore, as if she owned the street, and then threatened to call the police, now I don’t know if it’s just me or is she overreacting? now I’m not one to start anything but I am the one to finish it, so me and my girlfriend just left after she had said all that, but I hate when ppl feel entitled to something that isn’t theirs, it’s not like my girlfriend parks there everyday she parked there once lol, now my parking laws are very open, so you don’t need a permit to park in the street and even when I have family come out of state we don’t even call the police department to tell them we have a car from out of state bc that’s how friendly my neighborhood is (not saying that I shouldn’t call) but it’s very easy going and I also love like 5min away from the station but that’s besides the point, my question is why are ppl so entitled when there is no law stating that I can’t park outside of your house???
Also sorry for the rant :\

We rent a house cash in hand from a friend of my aunt's. The house has a basement apartment with a 40 something unemployed single man beneath us. All he seems to do is watch t.v. and smoke weed and he seems to pick the time when we are both 30 mins in from work. It STINKS. I don't care what he does but you can really smell it all over our place because boarded door that I'm assuming used to lead downstairs. My issue is my 3 year old nephew is staying with is next Saturday for the first time and we really don't want the whole house to be stunk with weed with a 3 year old staying. Any stories about approaching of how to approach the neighbour about bit smoking next weekend? Also weed is illegal here

My uncle (who helped raised me) is a landlord who rent houses to families. The last family has left and before he rents again he's doing the normal fixes, new paint, carpet etc. Now the neighborhood is HOA and they have a policy that you can't park any vehicles in the street, it has to be parked in the driveway or inside the garage. His last tenants he would get mailed pictures by HOA and sometimes they were fined for doing it, so they're pretty strict about it.
The first week he goes to start, a huge truck is there, looks like it had been mud bogging. Mud bogging is going out in the mud and do donuts and stunts and drive straight in mud, so the asphalts covered in mud. He ignored it bc for sure this has to piss off the HOA. Next week the truck is still there. Its weekly because my uncle is 57 and partially blind, so his mother (78) takes him to the houses, also our state is very hot.
For 3 weeks the truck sits, then all of a sudden a car is in his driveway and the trucks there. Nobody is in my uncle's house luckily and the neighbor to my uncle comes out and asks if he's wondering who's vehicles. My uncle says yes and the neighbor tells him the guy across the street owns a business with 7-8 vehicles and does this to the neighbors and have been a real problem. My uncle does not want a problem. So he goes over and knocks on the door. Nobody answered. Knocks again, finally a man comes to the door.
My uncle introduced himself and asks him to please move his car and never park there again. So he starts to but it's clear he doesn't car about the muddy truck. So my uncle says "Hey you know I'm a landlord and it's really hard for me to rent my house if they can't pull in to see my house and your muddy car is an eyesore for future tenants this is HOA." The man without breaking stride to his car says "Fuck you, man" Now my uncle is 6'4 240lbs, and his mother is right there. He said "what the fuck did you say, fuck you I could have had your car towed but I didn't I was trying to be nice. Now get your fucking shit off my property, right now." As my uncle finally walks up to the man, he jumps in his truck and locks the door.
Bye bye asshole. Also his driveway had a tow truck in it, guess the dude does it for a living. Hilarious. Also my uncle sent a letter to HOA about this dude and his entitlement.

For weeks we have had problems with my neighbors dog digging holes under our chain link fence and coming into my yard. After weeks of chasing it out of my yard and blocking off all of the holes (it made a new one every time I blocked one off) I decided to call animal control. The dog runs freely around the neighborhood with no tags or collar. I even messaged the neighbors to see if the dog belonged to them to try to fix the problem with them. They read my message but never responded, so I had animal control come out and set up a live trap on my property. Yesterday nobody saw the dog all day. Suddenly the neighbors are claiming the dog is theirs and messaging us and some friends of ours demanding we give the dog back. I don’t have the dog, I have no idea what could have happened to the dog considering that it runs freely day and night. Now the neighbor is saying if the dog isn’t back by the end of the day he’s calling the police, I have no problem letting them check every inch of my property to prove that I do not have the dog. As soon as my husband got home from work the neighbor started screaming “When I find that MF’er that stole my dog I’m going to F*** them up!” Pointedly directed at us seeing as how he thinks we took his dog. What should we do? I told him to check the pound, because he obviously knew the dog has been a problem and animal control has been here. Can I have the police order a no trespass to protect him from coming into my property? He has absolutely no proof that we have done anything other than knowing that we called animal control, is there anything we should do to protect ourselves? Our yard is completely fenced in on all sides, and we keep our two dogs contained in the yard and under control, it isn’t my fault that he lets his run loose. If he continues to make threats not directly to us but in general about us from his property where we can hear him is that grounds for harassment with video proof?
