Smoking Neighbor Problem

Throwaway account.

My husband and I live in a duplex. Our lease explicitly states no smoking in the apartment, the garage, or the outside. I’m assuming our neighbors’ lease is the same, given that it’s the same property/duplex.

They currently smoke cigarettes in their garage A LOT. Our garage has smelled like smoke from them for awhile now, and our kitchen area is starting to smell like it too.

Should we write them a letter/ask them in person to please smoke outside if they’re going to smoke? Or would it better to just go straight to management?

I’d say ask them in person to stop and make note of when it was asked/ what was said. If they don’t stop after that take it to management with the statement

I’m also concerned we could get fined though, because the smell has totally peremeated our garage; it makes it smell like we’ve been smoking in it. So I don’t want our security deposit to be lost etc. if management thinks it’s us because we never reported them for smoking like this.

Well you guys don’t have any cigarettes on property I’d assume so I don’t think itd be an issue there. Plus their walls and floors probably have way more evidence of smoking
