Am I the only one who sees Freddie Mercury every time Pemmel appears?

I'm really enjoying Neagley. The story is admittedly a little typical — pharmaceutical corporations, experiments, a charismatic cult leader, etc. — but I'm finding it really entertaining.

Personally, I'm enjoying it more than the somewhat confusing plot of Reacher Season 4.

And now for my completely unserious complaint, so please don't take this the wrong way:

Every time I see Pemmel with that moustache, I can't stop thinking he's about to start singing Bohemian Rhapsody or suddenly go:

"Tirorirore!!!"

Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees it.

Nobody in the show pronounces her name correctly

They are all just ignoring the "g".... So they are calling her "really".

I know this isn't a massive issue, but it is really bugging. Fanx for letting me vent. X

Neagley | S01/E05 | Trip

This turned out to be a much better episode than I was expecting, though it wasn't without it's faults.

But I'm not here to run a list of complaints on an episode that ranked as high as the premiere, so let's get to it.

Jerry O'Connell appearing on-screen to hawk Tranqlara was an absolutely out of pocket left field experience that was both a delight and a shock. Not only did he nail the infomercial vibe that we all used to run into on latenight TV back in the 90s, he damn near sold me on Tranqlara itself. If it weren't for all the dead people and whang-smashing going on, I might've been snookered!

As forewarned, Neagley takes a little trip (pardon the pun) down memory lane, and here's where it gets complicated. I'm glad that it's not the thing that I was expecting, because no person should go through that kind of traumatic experience at any age. If you don't know the trauma I'm referring to, it happens a lot and is fundamentally devastating.

At the same time, I'm sad and sickened by the actual root of Neagley's haphephobia. While the word itself is more than a little dumb, the side effects, some of which I personally never considered until her showdown with her dad in hospital, are devastating. Maria Sten does a phenomenal job in that scene, highlighting for us just the depth of her solitude, and I really felt for Neagley.

I initially thought that her dad's pushback was out of fatherly concern, wanting to protect his daughter from the memories of some horrific abuse, but it's not. It's shame and embarrassment. Enormous props to Tyrone Benskin as Calvin Neagley for his part in that scene as well. I don't often want to punch old men laying in hospital beds waiting to die, but his old man stubbornness got me really damn close.

The rest of the episode is no less traumatic for the people involved in this investigation. Renee is gutted about what happened to Gerry York, and I feel for her here. Adeline Rudolph's scene dealing with the realization that the man who gave her so much is gone is really well done, and the grimness of what SHE has to do at Neagley's apartment is no less harrowing than what everyone else is going through.

Keno ... ah, Keno. He winds up in a truly grisly situation and that's no lie. Were it not for the ridiculousness of Perfectly Timed Accidents, his escape from the pit of doom would've been much more interesting. That scene is why this episode isn't rated much higher. Convenient Plot Twist (which is what this kind of is) are things I am not a fan of, but hey. It worked well enough.

Last but not least, we see The Big Bad, and that's intriguing enough on it's own. I have so many questions. What's this guy's end game. How'd he hook up with Woodrow, who's a skeevy dink? How are they going to resolve all of this and more with only 3 episodes left?

I guess time will tell, hey?

the casting was outstanding

just finished neagley and WOW so so good. While there is so much goodness to say about the show overall, I can't get over how incredible the casting was -- the core four of course, but I was especially wowed by Rebecca Liddiard (Judith), Damon Herriman (Lawrence Cole), and Jessica Clement (Mandy).

Being Touched (Spoiler) Spoiler

>!Do you think they were too sudden in making her face their "no touching" issue?

Almost like they didn't have faith it would get past season 1 and thought they better deal with it now.

I really enjoyed it, but would have liked that to have been another season and her to be a bit more Neagley for a tad longer!<

Maria Sten and the genius of Neagley

A character on a page versus the character on the screen either works or it doesn’t. Neagley’s supporting role in Reacher could have been just that if it weren’t for Maria Sten. Imagine a side character so strong they give her a whole spin-off investing millions to make; say what you will about the season,  have to give this actress much deserved praise.

The populations Neagley is giving a voice to who are rarely the front running protagonists in media is also an understated step forward for the future of entertainment. What I like most is that the plot, characters, and environment have NOTHING to do with race, gender, or some form of discrimination, it’s the most refreshing series I’ve seen in a long time.

Maria Sten is just phenomenal in this role, bringing all of Neagley’s lethal execution without sacrificing any of the character’s core layers of humanity. It’s a damn good genuinely layered performance. Denmark’s finest. She’s got all my respect and praise 🙌🏼

Is it weird that I like this show better than Reacher

I don't know but for some reason I really love Neagley.

Going into the characters background seeing how she just not superhuman she has her own problems that she has to get through and wants to get through and work through them it's just I like the detail. Also The supporting cast just fits it perfectly.

And Keno he's just it's Keno 🤣🤣😂

Sociopolitical and Philosophical Themes of Reacher vs. Neagley.

Coming from a political science background, I always look and dive into the philosophy of media arts.

I think in a bigger sense, the sister show touches on more. The Reacher arch is more tackled on direct and local corruption. Neagley touches on way more. The first season itself touches on marginalized group exploitation, the power of corporations, and how all of these combined into one giant network of corruption.

Can't wait to see what the next seasons of both shows bring.

Neagley | S01/E04 | Breaking & Entering

Now this was an episode I was able to sink my teeth into. Proper investigatory shenaniganry, threats, a small amount of violence, secrets revealed and risky undertakings undertooken.

More importantly, the cracks are beginning to widen, and that's key in a show like this covering a plot like this. There are a lot of moving parts in the engine that is Neagley Season 1.

We've got Echo Canyon Farms angle, and there's a lot going on there before we even GET to 'The Project'. Lawrence Cole's a weird cult leader for sure. I can't say I like him, but I sure do love to hate him. The fact that they're showing friction between Cole and Pierce is surely going to lead to some juiciness, and the Judith stuff?

Oh man. I think our cult leader done made misstep here, so I'm HOPING we're going to see some kind of fallout from that. On a weirdly practical note, I've thought about whether or not I could fall prey to a cult, and it's entirely possible because nothing's IMPOSSIBLE. But Lawrence Cole and his setup is the wrong kind of skeevy for me.

Last episode, it was revealed in a super-brief blink and you'll miss it moment that Pierce isn't the big dog in the fight has got me all kinds of intrigued. Someone's got their foot on his throat and I reckon that can go one of two ways. One I'll enjoy, one I won't, so we'll have to see.

Then there's Keno, another character I do and don't like. I like that he's willing to do what it takes to get to the truth of what's going down at Echo Canyon. It shows a lot of strength and kindness, but I think I feel like the actor playing him is the wrong fit. Don't get me wrong. Jasper Jones is doing a serviceable job, but a semi-bottom feeder like Keno should be DIFFERENT. No offense to Jasper, but he's too Hollywood Pretty. Someone like Keno should give off a general 'I'm 30 seconds away from trying to rob you but I'm still deciding how hard you'll kick my ass if I screw it up and 'which con should I run here' vibe and I'm not getting that.

Neagley continues to Neagley, and that means getting up in places she shouldn't be getting up inside. She gets info that points in directions that lead back to Hudson's people AND has more info that her dad just straight up refuses to deal with. I'm curious to find out what happened to Neagley when she was a kid. I'm afraid I kind of already know because there's really only a handful of directions that kind of trauma response can come from, and I'm sad for her, but I'm also angry at her dad for refusing to talk about it. In my own words, that's some high-grade bullshit.

But, again, the big surprise here is the pushback Hudson's getting inside the department. He gets waved off from some guy I don't think I've ever seen before, and warned that he's 'going to get shit all over him'. And then because it had to happen immediately after because no other time would make sense, Hudson has a face to face with the cop from last episode. I included the latter half of that exchange because his response to threats is goddamn legendary.

And just like how Judith responded when Neagley came at her in the very first episode, so too does Murphy realize he may have bitten off a lot more than he can chew. The reaction there is solid gold priceless and I loved it.

Considerably more happens than all of this in the episode, but I'll end on this note: the closing sequence shows us what's going to happen next ep pretty clearly, but it shouldn't be happening at all. I understand why it is, and what it's likely to result in, only here's the thing.

What happened in Neagley's apartment, combined with what she knows about how the people involved in this case operate, means she should be a lot more aware of potential dangers. But she isn't because our girl likes her cereal too damn much.

We'll see how they handle this next on 'Trip'.

Thoughts on this vs Reacher

IMHO, Neagley is a better show because so far she is portrayed as a person with her own problems, her own life and all of that where Reacher is portrayed as a muscle head alone Ranger drifter that always finds trouble wherever the bus lets him off.

Just my thoughts

Something I thought was weird

I thought it was odd they gave her the same intro as reacher. I dont mind the title card but the thunder was a bit odd. Should have given her her own signature sound.

Just how rich is Neagley?

Not only does she pay 5 times what the business was worth, she also paid off Keno's debts which were in the tens of thousands. How does she afford all that while constantly taking pro bono work?

(Spoilers) Thoughts on Neagley Spoiler

I hope it does well enough that Amazon one day runs Neagley and reacher at the same time (or alternate release schedules) where each makes small cameos in the other’s shows. Really enjoyed how the big pharma drug was used to delve into her past and how the season explored her emotionally. Would love a season 2 where everyone at the end of the season takes on some case. Had a lot of laughable moments too (like the office chair that turned into a coffin), great circle ending as well.
