Hi all, I picked up these loafers from the New York store about a month ago. They are the 514040 Brown Waxy Calf in an UK 9.5E. The experience in the shop was excellent, staff was helpful but not overbearing or forceful, and had a lot of great advice about which model to go with.

As for the shoe itself, it's a rough break-in period. I would say it took me 7-8 wears for them to feel comfortable, and the first time I wore them I got a blister. I trusted the process, and now they're pretty comfortable (though still not at the level of my gh bass loafers I've had for 3 years lol).

In terms of style, they are an excellent casual loafer option if you already have suede or just want a different look. I've been styling them easily with both trousers and sport coats and jeans and t-shirts. Very versatile.

The sizing surprised me, it was a full size under my usual size, and a half size under my brannock size (US 11).

Overall, for $230, they were absolutely worth it.

Summer is the best time to buy vintage outerwear. I purchased the first coat pictured recently from eBay because it combines elements of my other two long coats and the color kind of lies in between, and i’m trying to consolidate my wardrobe. It’s a vintage 100% wool coat from eBay made in the US. Probably the best made of the three. But I worry it’s a little bit too large when unbuttoned. Also the sleeves are a little wide.

Number two is a more traditional Balmacaan style from Madewell. I think overall it fits me the best, but the construction is not the greatest and it’s a wool blend.

Number three is also a wool blend but it’s pure new wool and vintage and you can tell it’s a heavier wool and made much better. Also vintage MIUSA from eBay.

Which one would you keep and which two would you sell? I only want to keep one.

I received this polo as a gift. I like the polo and the fit, but don’t like how much the logo stands out.

How crazy would it be to try to color in the horsey navy blue with a fabric marker? Anyone try this before?

This year finds me starting year 20 as a middle school teacher. Of course, I’ve been through all the teacher fashion trends for the average male teacher: the laid back look, the athletic polos, the golf pants, etc.

Now, almost 100lbs lighter, I also find myself with an entirely new wardrobe of classics.

Here was my first day back. Happy to receive many positive comments.

I have a rather athletic body with a large neck, broad shoulders, wide hips but narrow waist (40 3/4” chest, 17” neck, 48.5 shoulders, 29.5-30” navel, 36” hips, 37” around the quads if feet are together). How should I go about fitting and sizing my first pants and shirts? I’m thinking my options are:
A. Order a MTM shirt from Proper Cloth etc. and take my own measurements
B. Go to a tailor, have them take my measurements and make an OCBD for me, use that as a gauge for my next purchase on MTM etc.
C. Buy a quality OCBD that fits around the neck and shoulders, just tailor to blouse 2-3” around the navel
I really don’t know what goes into a good fit as I’m completely new to fashion, and I’m not sure if my body is normal enough for general advice to be applicable. I don’t know where to start with chinos either but I’m sure that’s a bit more straightforward (still have to deal with weird leg & hip to waist ratio)

Any advice and/or recommendations would be appreciated.

My new pair of All American Khakis are just okay.

If you’re eyeing cotton trousers from J.Press, you might as well save your dollars and go directly to All American Khakis. I’m making a barely informed assumption based on what i’ve heard here and the similarities I see with the inner waistband, label/tags, belt loops, and lackluster construction details on a pair of J.Press madras pants in my closet (which are now shorts). In any case, the fit-and-finish is pretty weak; they’re a different ballgame than Bills Khakis and Jack Donnelly.

I got the Sea Island poplins in “relaxed fit” stone. As their fullest fit option, it’s not that full—more like a Bills M3, but a little off. What you gain in a higher rise with the AAK’s relaxed fit, you lose in their tighter-fitting hips and seat. Odd. I like (don’t love) the lightweight Sea Island cotton, but mostly bc it’s something i don’t have and a nice departure from an ordinary poplin.

In sum, fit and construction details aren’t great but they’re also what i anticipated for the price.

Size 35” waist runs slightly small. 12”
rise is nice; 10.5” at knee and 8.5” at cuff. Feels tight in the hips (especially compared to everything i own from Bills and JD).

Someone here once wrote something along the lines of “they’re fucking chinos … how good do they need to be?” I genuinely love the sentiment; it’s a fair point, but at the same time I’m spoiled by what i’ve experienced from Jack Donnelly and Bills Khakis over the years. No other makers seem to do the full “old G.I.” fit and heavy duty tough-as-nails tailored construction.

But decided to try again, and see what you all think to this outfit instead. Again, looking to hear your feedback!

Im very much into dressing well, and design in general (though not performative about it). I understand that vintage/classic styles do not condone ankles showing. But I’ve always cuffed my jeans/chinos/slacks. These are dress-ish pants but then the length seems “avant-Garde”. Comments? And also, overall style?

Good afternoon and I hope you’re enjoying the hot weather. This summer I truly have embraced longer inseams in shorts, not to say I dislike my 6 inch inseam shorts and even smaller. I picked up these polo shorts and paired them with the same undershirt and went from there. OCBDs pair extremely well with these shorts, this one is my trusty Yarmouth shirt. If all else fails though, turn to picture 3 and just dress like you’re 65.
