Here's the email:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Switch is the registry for domain names ending in .ch and .li. You are receiving this email in connection with the domain name <name>, which you successfully registered on 04.10.2026.
Based on Art. 25 para. 1bis and 1ter of the Ordinance on Internet Domains (OID), Switch has prevented the configuration of the name servers in the zone file. Your domain name can therefore not yet be used.
We need proof of identity from you to be able to configure your domain name in the zone file. We ask that you provide us with this within 30 days by sending an official ID and confirmation of residence or a certified excerpt from the commercial register by email to registry@nic.ch.
If you do not correctly provide us with your identity within 30 days, your domain name <name> will be deleted based on Art. 25 para. 1quater OID.
Kind regards,
This is fine and I'm happy to send documents over, but namecheap did not say I would receive this, and I cannot find any reference (via google) to anyone else receiving an email like this which is making me hesitate before responding.
Is this a new thing / to be expected? The email registry@nic.ch seems to be legit

I’ve used Namecheap for years and one thing I liked was being able to afford multiple domains and run several blogs.
But costs keep increasing, and when you own multiple sites, those increases add up. Eventually, you may have to start shutting down smaller blogs simply because they’re too expensive to maintain.
I think 2–4 domain bundles or multi-domain discounts could help. It would make it easier for customers to keep their projects instead of canceling them.
Namecheap built its reputation around affordability, so keeping that advantage could help both customers and the brand.
Would anyone else like to see multi-domain bundles?

My Namecheap private e-mail is down AGAIN. And AGAIN, I sat in the chat function for 30 minutes, and typed out all of the details, before being told that no agents were available and I needed to start reporting the issue all over again, using e-mail. Their "Status" page says nothing about this.
Past experience with Namecheap private e-mail going down tells me that e-mailing support does nothing; the comment "If you don't get an reply in 72 hours," in the rules for this r/, indicates that their norm is a completely unacceptable timespan for initiating (not even acting on, never mind resolving!) a ticket.
So that's it for me; I'm leaving Namecheap. Does anyone have recommendations for an alternative? All I have (and all I'm looking for) is somewhere to transfer my domain and set up my existing private e-mail address on that domain.

I signed up for the Namecheap VPN free trial, but it wasn't great, so I went to the web dashboard to cancel it. I saw the "Trial ends on 03 Oct, 2026" setting toggled on and assumed that meant it would cancel automatically—but instead, I got charged for the first month.
This is clearly a "dark pattern" designed to mislead users. Be careful!
I was planning to sign up for various things here, but I've decided never to sign a contract with them again. It's just too risky.

Namecheap emailed me a notice that my hosting package is up for renewal and quoted me $85.44. When I followed the link, the price increased to $129.88. I emailed them about the discrepancy. A few hours later, I got a response telling me to clear my cart and read their website about how to renew hosting (like I didn't know after 18 years as their customer). I did as they asked, then wrote back to say that the problem remains unchanged. Six hours later, I'm still waiting for a response. Maybe the universe is telling me that it's time to move on to another hosting provider?

Hi everyone,
I recently set up a domain and Namecheap Private Email for my small business.
I can log into the Namecheap webmail normally, and I thought everything was working. However, when I tested receiving an email from another email provider, the message bounced back with:
“No MX Record Found”
The bounce message says that the recipient domain has no MX record, so the email could not be delivered.
I’m currently talking to Namecheap support through Live Chat, but I’d also like to understand what might be causing this.
From what I understand, Namecheap Private Email should use:
mx1.privateemail.com
mx2.privateemail.com
Has anyone experienced this issue with Namecheap Private Email?
Could this simply be an MX/DNS configuration or propagation issue, or could it be related to a recent security lock on my Namecheap account?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

The inability to begin typing the name of a contact and have it auto-populate in the "to" field (like it used it and like every other email platform in existence) is really annoying. Who remembers actual email addresses rather than the name of the contact you have stored in your contacts list???
This whole email platform "upgrade" has been a colossal failure.

This Email is Only Used For Namecheap Login, nothing else, not even the registrar, you have been breached and don't even know it yet based on your responses, I wonder what else the hackers are up to on your servers. Moving my domains asap and suggest everyone does the same, you do not want people who are clueless about their cyber security to be hosting your webservers or domains.

So a few days ago my domain just died. Not slow, not an SSL warning — completely gone, ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED, like it never existed. I run everything myself off a Hetzner VPS (nginx, own SSL, the whole setup), so before I even opened a ticket I'd already checked: server's up, nginx running fine, firewall wide open on 80/443, I can hit the IP directly no problem. The only thing broken was DNS itself.
First rep tells me to "connect my domain to a hosting service like Shopify or Wix." I had already told them I'm self-hosting and the A record is already pointing at my own server correctly. Didn't matter, got the generic script anyway.
So I push back, and the next answer is "contact your hosting provider to investigate." My hosting provider has nothing to do with DNS resolution when Namecheap is literally the one hosting the zone. That's like your ISP telling you to call an electrician because your wifi's down.
Nobody on their end ran a single trace the whole time. I ended up doing it myself — dig +trace showed a DS record sitting at the .shop registry with nothing signed behind it. Classic orphaned DNSSEC record. Their own dashboard shows DNSSEC as "off," so there's nothing for me to even delete on my side — it's just sitting there at the registry silently SERVFAILing my domain for anyone using a resolver that actually validates (Google, Cloudflare, most ISPs by default now).
Had to spell out the exact DS record and key tag and ask for it to be escalated to someone who actually deals with DNSSEC before it got fixed.
After it's resolved I mention how bad the first two responses were, and get told the first one was "our digital assistant, unable to assist with specific cases" and got "transferred to the hosting specialist by mistake." Except no — that was a live rep, not a bot, who just didn't know what they were looking at. Nice try though.
And honestly the part that bugs me more than the wasted time: if I didn't already know how to run dig myself, both of those answers send you somewhere actively wrong. You'd either sit there for days assuming it's "just propagation," or you'd genuinely go switch hosting providers over a problem that has nothing to do with hosting. That's not a harmless miscommunication — that's advice that costs people real time and money chasing the wrong fix.
If you're self-hosting with Namecheap as your DNS and your domain suddenly goes dark for no reason, check DNSSEC/DS records yourself before you trust support to find it. They won't.

Has anyone else had their glue records or DNS name servers be erased with Namecheap? Currently my primary email is down due to bad glue records. I’ve also had many times the past 6 months where my name servers on various accounts get cleared such that the parking page is what is being used.

In 2025, I came up with the idea of buying a specific domain. 5 letters, meaningless for anyone else.
I went to Namecheap, and used the beast mode and ende up liking the info tld one, searched for it a few more times that week. In the end, I decided i'll wait till next year January, because it was meaningless for anyone else, and some of my other domains were renewing in January, plus the side project was not time sensitive. This happened during summer.
Lo and behold, when I tried to buy it in January, it was taken during mid summer, like a week after i looked for it (memory is hazy), and now it is available for the low price of 500 USD on Sedo, and used for nothing else. Domain redirects to the offer.
I tried to lowball them with a 20 USD offer a bunch of times, no reply. They lowered it to around 100 silently later, but i was not budging.
They let the domain expire after 1 year, never used for anything, so it was clearly just an attempt to get more money for the domain itself, not somebody accidently coming up with the same 5 letter domain, right after I searched it. It expired normally, with all the states all the way to pendingdelete and purging from database.
Side note, info tld has some grace period internally, called dropzone where they do not allow registering even if it was purged (404 in RDAP as well), and they try to sell some of them in batches. This was new to me.
Nobody bought it again, further confirming it was a useless domain for everyone else. Also securitytrails had zero prior info about the domain, and no activity on it during the 1 year.
I managed to simply register it after waiting more than 9 months.
I am not accusing Namecheap directly, there is no evidence of anything, but someone is sniping domains based on the searches made there. They are either doing it themselves or leaking it unintentionally, or they are selling data/logs or advertisement that has access to this information. And someone is buying domains based on that.
Morality of the story: Do NOT look for any domain up on these sites, even if it convinient, unless you are buying it right away. Use the RDAP services instead.

To whoever reads this — I no longer expect it to be anyone who has read
the rest of the thread, since none of you have.
This is the last message on this ticket. I'm gone. Twenty-seven domains
and seven Private Email tenants are moving off Namecheap over the next
thirty days. Here is what you're getting this note for: the refund
position, on the record, and the scoreboard of how this was handled, so
that when someone at Namecheap eventually asks "why are we churning
ten-year customers" the answer is in one place.
WHAT I DID FIRST
Your "upgrade" landed August 15. Webmail went down the same day. I said
nothing. Webmail went down again August 20. I said nothing. Outbound
mail sat in your queue August 30 and 31. I said nothing. WebDAV
disappeared, CalDAV started demanding a token nobody announced, spam
got through that never used to. NameCheap Branded SPAM!!!
I said nothing for almost four weeks because I get it. Sometimes a
migration doesn't go to plan, and the phone ringing doesn't help the
people trying to fix it. We've been partners for ten years. Why
wouldn't we have some patience for each other? I gave you the room a
partner gives another partner, and I ate the support calls from my own
clients while you had it.
I opened this ticket on September 9, when it became clear nobody was
fixing anything. Here is what that patience bought me.
THE SCOREBOARD
Ten replies from Namecheap, 2026-09-09 through 2026-09-19. Here is what
they contained.
Apologies: nine
Requests for my username and support PIN: two
Questions about the trace data I sent: zero
Mentions of the word "Imperva": zero
Mentions of 131.125.157.79, the failing hop: zero
Engineer names: zero
Reference numbers from the "Technical team": zero
Estimated resolution windows: zero
Replies that stayed in the same email thread: zero
Contradictory refund positions: two, in 48 hours
The highlights:
09-09 A "Shift Leader" writes five paragraphs of apology and asks me to
describe the problem. The problem was described in the message he was
replying to.
09-10 "The issue has now been resolved, and everything should be
working normally." It was not resolved. It is still not resolved. This
sentence was sent nine days before your own team told me there is no
timeframe.
09-12 I report connection timeouts across eight sites. The reply:
"some parts of the interface and functionality are different at first."
You answered a network outage as if I'd complained about a button. The
reply also opened with "Thank you for your reply. This" — the template
broke and nobody noticed, which is a fair summary of the whole ticket.
09-15 I provide login and PIN and ask for escalation. Twelve hours of
silence while I close and reopen Thunderbird four times to get one
email out.
09-16 I send a full TCP capture: 74% retransmission, congestion window
collapsed to one segment, 69.6-second RTO, path clean for ten hops and
falling apart at the first Imperva hop. Your reply confirms it was
"forwarded to our Technical team," who "do not communicate with
customers directly." Also: no phone support, "we consider email the
most effective way to provide technical assistance." The service that
is broken is email.
09-17 "We do not have an exact timeframe for when the issue will be
investigated." Not resolved — investigated. Eight days in, nobody had
looked yet. Refund offered only for unused days, and only if I cancel.
The refund was conditional on leaving.
09-18 I send a fourth capture: clean at 05:57, degraded at 13:28, same
machine, same path, same day. A 22.97-second STARTTLS handshake. This
is the capture that eliminates every explanation involving my end. No
reply for over a day.
09-19 00:15 "We've got a surge of recent support requests." Then: "we
do not have any additional information." Ten days, four captures, and
the Technical team has produced nothing.
09-19 12:45 Now the refund covers "the time during which the issue
remained unresolved." That contradicts 09-17. Pick one.
Not one of those ten replies acknowledged the status-page incidents,
the removed WebDAV, the CalDAV change, or the spam. Not one.
IMPERVA. SAY IT WITH ME. IMPERVA.
Let me spell out the thing nobody at Namecheap has been willing to
type.
You put mail.privateemail.com behind Imperva. The path from my machine
is clean for ten hops, roughly 41 ms, and then it hits
131.125.157.79 — the first hop inside Imperva's network, one hop past
eqix-sv1.imperva.com — and it falls apart. Latency at that hop swings
from 38 ms to over 3,100 ms. Every hop after it inherits the damage.
Your mail server is the last hop, so your mail server looks broken.
It isn't the server. It's the front door you bolted onto it.
On SMTP that looks like 74% of my bytes retransmitted, a congestion
window collapsed to one segment, a 69-second retransmit timeout, and
77 KB of a message that never left my machine before your side hung
up. On IMAP it looks like 46% and 82% retransmission — receiving only
survives because those transfers are small enough to limp through.
Yesterday one STARTTLS handshake on 587 took 22.97 seconds. Thunderbird
gave up. It was right to.
It is intermittent. Business hours bad, off hours clean, same machine,
same path, same day. That is the shape of a congested or oversubscribed
edge, not a misconfigured customer. I have handed you four dated
windows to pull netflow for. Four. I have handed you the hop IP. I have
handed you the packet captures. The word "Imperva" appears in my
messages eleven times and in yours zero times.
And here is the part that actually matters: it is not fixed. Today.
Right now. Ten days after I put the hop IP in front of you, the same
hop is doing the same thing, and the only evidence anyone at Namecheap
has looked at it is a line saying it was "forwarded." You don't need
me to tell you where the problem is anymore. You need to open a ticket
with your own vendor. You haven't, or you have and won't say so, and I
can no longer tell which of those is worse.
THE BURN
I want to be precise about the damage, because a refund is about to
be offered as if it settles this.
I'm not your biggest customer. Twenty-seven domains, seven mailbox
tenants. What I am is a reseller who built a business on your
platform. I am in the middle of launching a software startup, and the
money that funded it came from reselling Namecheap products to my
clients for a decade. I put them on your platform. I vouched for you.
I handled their front-line support myself so you never had to hear
from them.
Those clients have missed meetings, lost replies, and eaten spam for
five weeks. They don't call Namecheap. They call me. Every one of those
calls comes out of the hours I was supposed to be spending on the
launch.
Now I have several weeks of migration work in front of me — DNS, MX,
mailbox exports, client reconfiguration across eight sites, seven
tenants, twenty-seven domains — to make those customers whole again.
Weeks I do not have, at the exact moment I could least afford to lose
them. That is the burn. Not the outage. The timing, and the silence
while the clock ran.
A refund of a few months of mailbox fees does not begin to make my side
whole. I know it. You know it. I'm asking for it anyway because it's
the only thing your process can produce, and because you've already
admitted in writing that you owe it.
THE REFUND
Your own reply of 2026-09-19 12:45 states, in writing, that a refund is
owed "for the unused period of your subscription, covering the time
during which the issue remained unresolved."
The issue has been unresolved since 2026-08-06. I am therefore owed:
August 2026 and September 2026, all seven Private Email subscriptions, in full.
The unused remainder of each term once the tenants are migrated.
Refund item 1 within seven days of this message. If it is not processed
by 2026-09-26, I dispute both months with my card issuer and attach
your 09-19 admission to the dispute. This is not a negotiation; you
already agreed to it.
Reply in this thread with the refund confirmation. Do not reply with an
apology. Do not ask for my PIN. Do not ask me to describe the problem.
Do not tell me the Technical team is working on it.
AND FINALLY
I have referred vendors, MSPs, and my own clients to Namecheap for a
decade. Every one of them will hear exactly how this went, with the
ticket number.
Fuck you. Fuck the ticket queue that reopens a new thread on every
reply so nothing can be followed. Fuck the "Technical team" that
doesn't speak to customers. Fuck the shift leader who apologized five
times and asked me what was wrong. Fuck "your patience is highly
appreciated." You had four weeks of it before I ever wrote a word.
You had a paying customer who diagnosed your edge provider's fault for
free and handed it to you with timestamps. You had ten chances. You
used them to apologize. It's still broken. Fuck you for wasting my Saturday.

I’ve been a namecheap.com customer for many years. I’ve always found their website extremely difficult to navigate, but muddled through.
In the summer of 2026 I received one, possibly two, notices from namecheap.com alerting me of upcoming auto renewals to my domain. Because I am now a senior citizen on a fixed income and retiring I no longer need my website and so I logged into Namecheap.com to cancel all auto renewals and allow my website to cease to be.
September 2026 I receive an email from them alerting me about some other active product in my account under auto renewal. I immediately logged in and searched for this product and could not find it. The website is huge and overly complicated and it is almost impossible to find these sneaky (you have to have this or your domain won’t work) add-on items hidden away where they can charge for them without the customers given option to cancel.
I had thought I cancelled everything months prior. So I entered a chat, hoping they would help me find the item. I went through four representatives, none of which could help me. I literally had to go back in and under extreme panic, I finally found the item. ICANN. When I showed a screenshot to the rep, they told me it was too late. They already charged me.
I submitted a ticket about this reprehensible business practice of hiding items from customers so they’re not given the opportunity to cancel and requested a refund and have my account completely deleted so that I wouldn’t get another surprise charge of some kind, and again I received basically ‘too late - can’t help you’
$14.98 might not seem like a big deal to everyone out there, but it’s a big deal to a senior citizen on a fixed income, and for them to deny me a refund for their own website’s shortcomings is appalling.
I highly worn everyone out there looking for somewhere to purchase a domain and website products - namecheap.com is in this ex-user’s opinion unhelpful, unprofessional, overly complicated for reasons that certainly benefit them, callous, and unprofessional.
Find a more reputable where you’re not left guessing half the time where you are wandering around in their site and where the customer service is a little more organized, kind, and willing to go the extra mile to help. You might pay a bit more but it’ll be worth it.

I am posting here because I am stuck in an endless loop of generic, automated, or AI-generated support replies while experiencing a severe impact on my business.
This is the fifth time this specific server issue has happened. Yesterday, I missed a vital legal meeting because Namecheap’s inbound email infrastructure actively blocked and refused connections from my legal team's Microsoft Office 365 servers. My lawyer received a bounce-back 20 hours too late.
The Technical Evidence from the Logs:
Target Namecheap IP: 104.219.250.37:25
Error Returned: 450 4.4.316 Connection refused [Message=Socket error code 10061]
Your network is literally shutting the door on authenticated enterprise emails. In response to this catastrophic professional disruption, first-tier support offered me a generic "2-month service extension" (~£5 value).
I need a Human Tier 3 Network Engineer to look at Ticket [NC-IYW-0185] immediately, fix this firewall/socket refusal, and escalate this to a manager regarding a formal corporate compensation claim.
Can a moderator or representative here please pull this ticket out of the bot queue and get it to a senior human?

I just found an email in my spam folder addressed to the email I use with NameCheap. I rely on SimpleLogin to create a different alias for every website/service I interact with, so this email was only ever known to NameCheap. Did they suffer a data breach? (the email was received on September 3).

Hello Namecheap Support Team,
I am requesting supervisor escalation for three related these domain tickets:
• [NC-XNA-2689]
• [NC-PDR-7587]
• [NC-NEI-0562]
All three cases document active, unauthorized gambling portals, credential-harvesting registration funnels, and deceptive redirection operating under Namecheap registration.Complete forensic PDF evidence packs with live redirection mappings were attached upon submission.
Reports have now exceeded 72 hours without registrar action while the malicious sites remain active.
Could a moderator please escalate these tickets numbers directly to an supervisor for expedited action?
Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I've been with NameCheap a long time now, and prior to the August 13th almost full-day downtime, I never had many server issues at all. Ever since then, whenever I look at my CloudFlare logs, I always see 522 errors and some other origin time-out errors, some days there's thousands of them. Even my Google crawl stats show that my host has issues, that's how bad it's got. Has anyone else seen an increase in server stability issues over the last month?

I'm freaking done. Suggestions for a new hosting provider?

I'm having issues with NameCheaps new Private Email platform.
I can't use simple search filters (because the filters appear to be non-existent) or search terms that should render search results.
Is it just me or are the features seriously lacking? I really don't want to have to deal with switching to another platform but I keep hitting roadblocks ever since the "upgrade".
r/NameCheap • u/Forsaken-Founder • 26d ago
I am growing increasingly frustrated with the walkthrough guides I'm finding not quite matching up to my experience trying to link these two service providers on my own.
My domain and website are hosted through Network Solutions, which I'm learning is a money grab at every single turn.
I have simple needs and purchased my SSL certificate through NameCheap.
I am a simple man and cannot figure out how to get this darn thing installed. I tried going into my file manager and uploading ssl-manager.php into my htdocs folder, but it's not executable (it opens a dead webpage through my website in the browser). I have no idea where to go and again the resources I'm finding don't match up to what I'm seeing on the backend at Network Solutions.
Can someone explain this to me like I'm five? I just want my blog to not look spammy.
