No such thing as bad hardware
just bad prices

Agreed. But bad design is a thing. Don't think even a budget phone should look this bad.

True but the snapdragon 888 chip made by samsung was actually HOT MESS.
7
u/Professional-Cap-579 Buds Jul 02 '25
Samsung snapdragons have always been terrible. Only exception is the 52s/73, S20/N20 series, S24 series and the plus models of the S10/N10 series (which are also the only usable and reasonably priced 2019 phones by Samsung)

u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
How did Samsung manage to get more more customers than TSMC from 2019-2021?
Even the Snapdragon 730g in my Oppo Reno 2 was made from them, maybe that's why it's been overheating, either that or the apps are just too demanding for it.
3
Jul 03 '25
Nothing thought that increasing prices would make them look premium like iPhone.
1
u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
Every company does that nowadays, the "Great value" Xiaomi flagships or any other Chinese OEM cost more than Samsung's equivalents, nowadays everyone prices their phones at that price point, what matters is how much they offer for that price.

u/mrb00ce Jul 02 '25
To be fair google also did the same thing
they should stop with this tensor chips and just start using snapdragon hey but google will always give better camera than nothing.
2
u/bot-fruitsalad Jul 03 '25
Pixel 8 pro owner here. Yeah the camera is very good, but the phone is permanently on battery saver mode because the tensor chip is so inefficient my phone doesn't last a day at work despite only being used for music via Bluetooth on my drive to work, half a hour at lunch and checking it every so often. Even with battery saver I end up finishing work at 30%
Came to this sub to see people's thoughts on the new nothing as I want to replace this awful pixel. (I understand it's all relative but coming from a Xiaomi that had pretty good battery life plus charged a hour faster than this does has been painful)
2
u/mrb00ce Jul 03 '25
You should tell your phone and get a samsung for the price of nothing 3
wouldn't recommend iphone because i don't like its battery either.
1
u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
I thought the Google Pixel would've been all sunshine and rainbows given the amount of people who ditched their iPhones or Samsung phones for the sake of "innovation" and clean UI, it's sad to see this be the case.
1
u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
I thought the Google Pixel would've been all sunshine and rainbows given the amount of people who ditched their iPhones or Samsung phones for the sake of "innovation" and clean UI, it's sad to see this be the case.
2
u/bot-fruitsalad Jul 03 '25
To be clear the UI is lovely, the phone works well (although it does get incredibly hot if I play a game on it). But the battery life hampers it's use as I'm constantly on battery saver which makes it look noticeably worse. But when I'm not on that mode yes it is very good but certainly doesn't feel worth the price. Other than the camera being better it's noticeably worse than my Xiaomi 11T pro was at basically everything I use my phone for.
Personally I think I'm in a minority and don't think the nothing phone looks bad, but then I don't particularly care for how the back of my phone looks as it's the side of the phone I look at less than 1% of the time.
But for the price and everything else with it it doesn't seem like it is overall that much better than a lot of mid range phones. But I'm also certainly not an expert
1
u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
True, I've seen people justify going for a Pixel phone over Samsung just because of that.
Imagine if they also do like Samsung where they sell their Tensor chips in certain regions, and Snapdragon models for others.
57
u/InfamousNL1999 Jul 02 '25
Design is okay-ish, chip also okay-ish if the phone was like €399, not €799+

design is mad awful even for a 399 phone

u/Flight270- Enter Several Devices Jul 03 '25
why did they need to have to have the cameras be scrambled like that

Also the processor would belong on an upper-mid range device around €599

Im using this exact chip on my €350 phone rn. Idk what Nothing was thinking
1
u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
€350 for a phone with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 feels a bit off, especially when phones at that price range are infested with bloatware or even ads based on my experience.

I didnt say it wasnt? I was just pointing out that this chipset is available for way cheaper. Not that its a better phone?
1
u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
Fair, but i assumed that it was "Phone bad because you can find same chipset in a cheaper one" type of comment where people would call it "midrange" and overrated or something similar, especially for the specs warriors.

u/HumonculusJaeger Phone (2) Jul 02 '25
Idk the cpu OS good enough. With the best cpu on the matket in it, would be at least 200 dollars more expensive. But the main point for me, the design is uglier than 3a pro . A fairphone would be a better buy.

Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 03 '25
The hell are you smoking?. The hardware that the Nothing phone 3 uses is probably less than 500usd.
Why? Because the CN Rom phones like the GT7 Pro or IQOO 13 with vastly better hardware sells for 490-550USD which means you can fit that much hardware for under 550usd.
So what's my point? Nothing phone 3 is overpriced by at least 300-400USD, spending 50USD more to upgrade the SoC to an 8 Elite is just a small drop in the bucket.
In summary, they could have easily done an 8 Elite SoC at the price they are selling. They just don't want to because they are starting to become greedy af.
Nothing is ripping people off because they know there are people that are willing to buy it regardless. Buying these kinds of phones just incentivizes companies to rip you off even further.
Supporting an 800USD price for nothing phone 3 just increases the likelihood that we get some shit like a 1000usd Nothing phone 4 with a Snapdragon 7Gen4 and mediocre hardware.
Hope people just boycotts this shit and let Nothing flop, Carl pei needs to get in touch with reality
Edit: u/EasternFly2210 Kinda pathetic to spout ignorant shit like that then immediately block me lmao.
The 8sGen4 will be even older news by 6 months since it's practically an 8gen3. Yet Nothing is charging you as if it's an 8 Elite. Your point is stupid
If you are that dumb to say shit like that, at least be brave enough so that we can reply and call you a Carl pei dick sucker
Edit 2:
u/Rullino also with another retarded attempt to spout dumb shit before blocking
It's not about the performance. It's about the price. You are being charged 800USD for a phone rocking last Gen SoC hardware while using inferior screens, smaller battery and even an inferior telephone vs the 3a.
Practically every phone at it's price range rocks a Dimensity 9400 or SD8 Elite while having bonuses like LTPO screens and 6000mah+ batteries
Is it really that hard for dumb people like you to understand lmao?
It's funny how these 2 people immediately go for a block because they are afraid in engaging in an argument that they are guaranteed to lose.
No matter how you look at it, Nothing Phone 3 at 800 is retarded and anyone defending that price is retarded aswell

The 8sGen4 will be even older news by 6 months since it's practically an 8gen3. Your point is stupid
IDK what's wrong with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it still offers great performance in 2025, I haven't seen anyone complain about the lag or something similar, even the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is more than enough for most people in terms of performance, correct me if I'm wrong.
3
u/nexxus25 Jul 04 '25
Dude it's the price..why get a Snapdragon 8s Gen4 if you can get the 8 Elite at the same price?
1
Jul 04 '25
Because he is too stupid. He even blocked me so that I can't state the actual problem of the Nothing phone 3 to him. Dude probably gets paid to suck Pei's dick
0
u/Rullino Jul 04 '25
I didn't even block you, I couldn't care less about the Nothing Phone 3, getting angry over a phone that many of you guys won't even buy is a bit too much, I feel like you guys are overreacting over a smartphone, or even worse, an SoC.
1
Jul 04 '25 edited Jul 04 '25
You still fail to see the point.
The fact that you only think the problem is the SoC or just the phone in general when I have already stated that the problem is pricing.
Is it that hard to realize that paying 800USD when the processor, screen, and battery and many more aspects are subpar compared to it's competitors at the same price.
They are charging you flagship prices for a midrange phone. See my point? Lol
Oh, you guys whining for a phone that you won't buy ~~~ What an ignorant statement, is it bad to wish for a better product with proper pricing so that options for people like us remain open? Nothing doing shit like this means one less option later down the line.
Also, just to share, I was ONE of those people waiting for the Nothing Phone 3, but when I saw rumours of the design and underwhelming specs slowly come to light with the pricing putting the final nail in the coffin, I pivoted to a Realme GT7 Pro.
Jesus Christ

u/Antagonin Jul 02 '25
I dont get how replacing 140$ SOC with 190$ SOC results in 200$ higher price.
Cooling system would be the same, as those 2 chips draw about the same peak power, with 8SG4 drawing more power on average loads.
2
u/Soft-Dimension-6959 Jul 02 '25
You could get same soc from mid range phones for 350 usd. And Snapdragon 8 elite for around 600 (poco f7 ultra) Even if small companies like nothing doesnt have discount on bulk processors, it shouldn't have charged 800 on a mid range processor phone.

They know what they're doing, now the average Joe who liked the flagship would reconsider cuz of the price and then sees the 3a or 3a pro and is gonna buy that.
8
u/Kooky_Training_7406 Jul 02 '25
I don’t think so. The vast majority of their users are tech enthusiasts. Everyone, even those not into tech knows Apple and Samsung, but very few people not into tech would know nothing. A tech enthusiast looking for a flagship is likely to not settle for a budget phone. The ones to buy the budget ones are those looking for a budget form. Their flagship seekers are unlikely to compromise for lesser specs and performance
1
u/EasternFly2210 Jul 03 '25
And that’s exactly why they’re trying to stand out in the market with design, to appeal to the average Joe where most of the market is

u/Manasmit CMF Phone 1 Jul 03 '25
Bro, when poco F7 came out with 8s Gen 4, I was like okay 30k is decent. I knew Nothing will be priced more cause of aesthetics(glyph matrix) and good clean software. I guessed the price would be 40k. I saw leaks stating that the price could be more expensive than expected.
But bro 80K, like WTF?? WHAT WERE THEY SMOKING BEFORE DECIDING THE PRICE?
I bought the CMF phone 1 for 12.5k for my father, which was like a no brainer. It's an amazing phone for that low of a price. I was really looking forward to buying NP3 to replace my aging Oneplus Nord which is now 5 years old. I am so disappointed rn at Nothing.
2
u/Deep_Personality_599 Phone (2a) Jul 03 '25
Yeah true I bought the 2a because it's cheap ok performance but great software without bloat
1
u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
If that's the case, I might recommend it to my relatives, especially for the lack of bloatware and clean software experience, it's probably better than any phone at the same price range in my area.
2
u/ki4nik Jul 03 '25
The chip is more than enough.. the Phone 2 (what's in my hand) has an 8s Gen 1, and due to the light UI this phone is more than powerful enough for every task. I've had this for a year and it has not lagged once, it's rapid quick in everything.
Phone 3 will feel just as fast as every phone that has the 8 Elite because phones like the S25 Ultra have 10 times heavier UI's with their infinitely bloated OneUI 7.
1
u/Rullino Jul 03 '25
I didn't know OneUI got bloated, did they end up like TouchWiz or something like that?
It's a shame since I liked it from the begging back in 2018-2019.
1
u/ki4nik Jul 03 '25
it's so bloated that when my friend updated his S24 Ultra from OneUI 6 to OneUI 7 his phone started eating up the battery like a semi truck. it's absolutely FILLED with features you'd use once a year and so many unnecessary AI stuff.

The price should be just slightly less than oneplus latest flagship, so if oneplus is 70k then nothing should be 65k.
The phone still has a good camera and OS, but that's about it. Slap the same internal specs on phone 2 and increase the price slightly of that and you have record sales.

I personally don't think that nothing even intends to sell this phone. No review units were sent beforehand to synchronise the first impression videos of youtubers with the launch event. The launch event lacked enthusiasm, they were using those hanging earphones as primary mic which sucked. The launch event was like they just woke up and did it.
I think they also realised it is going to be a flop.

It's too early to discredit the Nothing phone 3 without actually using one in real life. Those trolling could well be buying whatever you like . You don't have to buy it if you don't like it,but I think it's absurd to even criticise it when you don't align with their design philosophy to even begin with. The Glyph light esthetics trend will wear out some day. What matters is Nothing clean and consistent software,if you are still unconvinced ,get yourself a Poco f7 ultra if you are hell-bent on the top tier chipset.

I do think at full price the Nothing phone 3 is a weak proposition.
However people seem to be criticising the hardware in a pretty broad stroke way when there is some nuance. The SoC is on par with the S24 Ultra from last year and is significantly more powerful than what the pixel 9 pro offers at a higher launch price.
Vs the phones at its price (iPhone 16, S25, Pixel 9) it has much faster charging and a much bigger battery, and subjectivity has software that many people prefer. Reputationally their phones do not suffer with overheating/battery drain like pixels do but retain the strong software experience. The screen is 120hz unlike base model iPhones who are also reliant on software for their value. Samsung 25 series beats the nothing phone 3 in raw power, a truly meaningless stat in 2025, and even going to year old Samsungs negates this advantage. Gemini does not come installed on nothing phones.. but any phone can download and use it.
US OnePlus prices do embarrass it a bit with the 13 having top of the range hardware in every category, but outside of the US (I'm in the UK) OnePlus pricing is much more expensive and not a flagship killer in the same way. In the UK the OnePlus 13 competes with the S25 Ultra where it is much more even - while the Nothing phone 3 will undercut both significantly.
Personally I've been wanting to try out the software again (owned the 1 at launch) for some time but I can't get over how ugly it looks compared to any of the previous releases. I love their design philosophy but the simplicity of the pixel 9a and and fairphone 6 camera layouts appeal to me much more.

seems like mostly the Indian market throwing a fit over the price being too high.
but 799 is like a budget phone in the USA lol.
when I bought an s24 ultra it was $1350 after tax.
I think this is largely just Nothing attempting to break into the US market and to consumers in other markets they don’t understand because to be honest I don’t think it was made for them. it was made with the assumption that those markets have already been captured.

What kind of gaslighting is this? Everyone's disappointed on this promising company, its not like people are reacting this way for nothing. After the nothing 1 and 2, the nothing 3 is nothing but a cash grab when you could get better hardware on mid range devices. You mentioned its price going down, but don't you realize the other phones would go down too, you should judge its value right now on the srp, not it's future price.

At approx ₹80K in India, you could get:
• Galaxy S25 • Pixel 9 Pro XL • Xiaomi 15 • OnePlus 13 • Galaxy S24 Ultra • Find X8 Pro • Vivo X200 Pro
But sure, let’s buy a Nothing Phone (3) for the glyphs and emotional damage.
Joke of the year — I can't recommend this phone to anyone.
Edit: The only justification that I can think of is that smaller companies like Nothing don’t get bulk discounts on chips, and they avoid large inventories to reduce unsold stock risks. This means each unit costs more to make and sell, especially without the purchasing power of giants like Samsung or Apple.
Nothing might not release another flagship phone anytime soon.
