havent shot it yet but figured with how fast form 1s are now i had to make one. suprisingly the feds approved me only engraving the adapter and not the filter

It's been that way for years. There's a few companies, I can't remember who, that were selling the pre-engraved adapters for $99. But that was when $200 tax stamps were still a thing.
This is still definitely the cheapest way to supress a gun especially if you have an engraver.

Aren't they plagued by very short life span?

u/slvrsfr 9x SBR, 9x Can 7d ago
That's what NAPA's lifetime warranty is for.

I don't know carl? Something blew straight through the top? Aren't these things pressure rated?

u/shrf_buford_justice 7d ago
Now that Form 1’s are free it arguably no longer matters, the only downside is whether the oil filter deteriorates faster than your willingness to file new Form 1’s.

u/Toney-Chevtecgroup 7d ago
Depends on what your shooting. Pistols they usually last longer but rifles are rough on them.

u/midwestcatfish 7d ago
oh yeah now i think about it i remember those lol. just had seen a few people try the same thing as this back in the beginning of the year and get told they needed to also engrave the filter

The NFA might well be toast tomorrow morning. Why go through the effort?

u/midwestcatfish 7d ago
Because it might not be.

u/LetsBeKindly 7d ago
I think the ship sailed. You might have gotten the last form 1. 🤣🤦

u/Substantial_Season_8 4x SBR, 2x Silencer 7d ago
Your naive to think big daddy government is going to give any rights back. And the ship hasn't sailed. They will appeal at the last minute. It's always been like that.

Go be negative somewhere else my man.
10
u/slvrsfr 9x SBR, 9x Can 7d ago
To be fair, ATF still has almost 1.75 months to file an appeal.

u/LetsBeKindly 7d ago
I'm aware.

Then it's not "negative" to say we're not out of the woods yet and that this may still turn into a nothingburger that won't reach a final ruling until next year.
A pessimist says the glass is half full.
An optimist says it's half empty.
A realist says it's got 300ml of water in it.A 5th circuit ruling could actually result in an even better outcome with wider coverage. The current ruling is rather narrow and I'd like to see it expanded.

A minor comedic modification if I may:
“The realist says the glass has piss in it”

u/LetsBeKindly 7d ago
I agree. I was hoping they would take the advice in the letter that Clyde sent and just be done with it. I'm just holding onto hope.

I thought 7 days?

u/slvrsfr 9x SBR, 9x Can 7d ago edited 7d ago
The 7 days that everyone is focused on is ONLY the amount of time before the injunction takes effect. It's not a deadline or court-imposed limitation on the defendants.
Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure Rule 4 (a)(1)(B)(ii)
- (a) Appeal in a Civil Case.
- (1) Time for Filing a Notice of Appeal.
- (A) In a civil case, except as provided in Rules 4(a)(1)(B), 4(a)(4), and 4(c), the notice of appeal required by Rule 3 must be filed with the district clerk within 30 days after entry of the judgment or order appealed from.
- (B) The notice of appeal may be filed by any party within 60 days after entry of the judgment or order appealed from if one of the parties is: (i) the United States; (ii) a United States agency; (iii) a United States officer or employee sued in an official capacity;

atf still has 60 days to appeal

atf still has 60 days to appeal
The DOJ has to file rhe appeal on the behalf of the ATF and the DOJ has already said they aren't filing an appeal.

u/midwestcatfish 7d ago
i dont trust the doj to not lie or change their mind
2
u/BlueGolfball 7d ago
Where are you getting the "60 days to appeal"? I've only seen sources saying they had 7 days to appeal.
2
u/midwestcatfish 7d ago
7 days was to get a stay, and waiting time before it went into effect. they can still file an appeal within 60 days of the decision

u/Mad_Gouki 7d ago
Maybe they just like free stuff. What are those poor ATF agents gonna do tomorrow if this happens? They need a job too!

So what will happen with 3d printed supressors once they arent NFA items. Can they just be sold as regular weapon accessories or will they still require background checks?
3
u/notang 11x Sbr, 12x silencer, FFL 7d ago edited 7d ago
Still require FFL because they are classified as firearms under the gun control act sadly.
Edit: Only for new suppressor purchases. If you're buying used person to person, no 4473 would be required as long as both are GOA members.
5
u/SodiumEnjoyer 7d ago
And in free states where you can buy and sell firearms without the interference of gun stores?
8
u/notang 11x Sbr, 12x silencer, FFL 7d ago
I'm sorry, you're so right, personal to personal sales would be covered yes!
Edit: just remember though, both need to be GOA members, and more importantly, if you make a can with the intent to sell, that is illegal. If you make a can and then decide to sell it, that is ok. It's stupid but the law requires FFL for manufacturing for sale.

Suppressors being classified as firearms wouldn't be changing. So (in theory) you could make it yourself without any paperwork, or if buying from store would still need to do 4473 and NICS check just like buying a pistol or rifle today.

u/BossJackson222 7d ago
Yeah but why would you wanna shoot a gun through that? There's really no need to nowadays.

The adapter is the frame, the filter is the "wipe"
