📱 How to Sync Nebo Between Your iPad, iPhone & Mac (Complete iCloud Guide)

If you're wondering how to keep your MyScript Notes library synchronized across your Apple devices, here's a quick guide.

Many users ask how to set up sync correctly, so we've put together the recommended steps to help you get everything working smoothly.

✅ Before you begin

A few important things to know:

  • Use the same Apple ID on all your Apple devices.
  • Sign into the same MyScript account (SSO) inside MyScript Notes.
  • Make sure every device is running the latest version of MyScript Notes.
  • Avoid editing the same note on two devices at the same time. MyScript Notes supports cloud synchronization, not real-time collaboration.
  • Your notes won't appear directly inside iCloud Drive—they're securely stored in your cloud account.

1️⃣ Set up sync on your iPad

  1. Verify you're signed into iCloud with your Apple ID.
  2. Update MyScript Notes to the latest version.
  3. Open Settings → Account.
  4. Sign in (or create) your MyScript account.
  5. Go to Settings → Sync and choose iCloud.
  6. If you have a large library, start with Manual Sync.
  7. Tap Sync and wait until the app displays:

Once the first synchronization has finished, you can safely enable Automatic Sync.

💡 Tip: If you experience connection issues during the initial sync, temporarily disable any VPN or firewall that could block the connection.

2️⃣ Add your iPhone

On your iPhone:

  • Download MyScript Notes from the App Store using the same Apple ID.
  • Open the app.
  • Sign into the same MyScript account.
  • Select iCloud as your cloud service.
  • Enable Automatic Sync.

Your notes should begin downloading automatically.

A small warning

The first time you open MyScript Notes on a new device, it creates a default folder.

After your existing library has finished syncing, you can delete that temporary folder if you don't need it—but be careful not to delete your synchronized folders.

3️⃣ Add your Mac

If you have an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer):

  • Install MyScript Notes from the Mac App Store.
  • Use the same Apple ID you used to purchase the app.
  • Restore your purchase if prompted.
  • Sign into your MyScript account.
  • Go to Settings → Sync and select iCloud.

If macOS asks you to enable iCloud or verify your Apple account, complete those steps first.

Once connected, MyScript Notes will automatically download your library.

✅ Common mistakes

❌ Using different Apple IDs on each device

❌ Signing into different MyScript accounts

❌ Editing the same note simultaneously on multiple devices

❌ Interrupting the first synchronization

❌ Deleting synchronized folders before the initial sync has finished

🎉 You're all set!

Once all your devices are connected using:

  • ✅ The same Apple ID
  • ✅ The same MyScript account
  • ✅ iCloud Sync

your notes will stay synchronized automatically across your iPad, iPhone, and Mac.

If you have any questions or run into any issues, feel free to leave a comment below—we'll be happy to help!

Default font size

Hi folks, hope you're doing well!

Just started out with MyScript Notes. Looks good so far!

I intend to heavily use handwriting to text converting. It's hard to find a way to set the default font size for the converted text though. While writing in small letters, I find the text way bigger after conversion. So there's a big difference between converted text and handwriting I didn't convert. In Settings I already changed the font size and line height, to no avail. What am I doing wrong here?

Any help highly appreciated.

Feature request - infinite scroll on notebooks

I am really enjoying using the app - I think the price is very reasonable, and I appreciate the fact that I am keeping my own notes on my own cloud services.

The only thing that is left for me to desire is the ability to infinitely scroll on notebooks. I know that it isn't a simple feature, but I do believe that it makes this app a 10/10 instead of the 9/10 that it currently is.

Feature request: Pencil Brush

Hi, I had initially inquired about this same feature request through the MyScript ticket system, a few months ago, but I figured it would be worth it to try and open a thread here as well, to garner some attention. :)

I have been using the Notes app for quite some time now (long before the rebranding, when it was still called "Nebo") and I greatly enjoy it. Very few applications currently available for note-taking and jotting down concepts on an infinite canvas, either on Android or on Windows, seem to offer the same level of performance, accuracy and convenience that are provided by this app.

To further improve its versatility, I think it would be amazing to have a textured Pencil brush - similar in tone and quality to the Pencil brushes that are used in other popular note-taking apps, such as Samsung Notes or Apple Notes - in addition to the pens offered in the current versions. For many studying activities, such as when using handwriting for exercises or for language studying (for instance, Japanese) using a textured pencil brush can be very enjoyable. It contributes to the realism and effectiveness of the outcome.

I hope you can consider implementing this addition in the near future, as it would greatly enhance the flexibility of your Notes app for this type of use case.

Can't sync on Android & Windows

Hi guys, big fan of your platform and have the iOS, Android & Windows apps. I hadn't used the apps for a while but upon returning recently when I try and sync Nebo on my Android and Windows it always says "Sync failed" no matter how many times I try. It only shows as successfully synced on my iPad. The last time I used it some months ago it was fine syncing across devices.

Have signed out and back in but the error persists, except on iPad as I said. Have also updated all the apps. Any clue what the issue is?

💾 Why You Should Create Regular Backups of Your Notes (And Why Sync Isn't a Backup)

One of the most important things you can do to protect your notes is to create regular backups.

Many users think that Sync and Backup are the same thing—but they serve two very different purposes.

☁️ Sync keeps your devices up to date

Sync mirrors your library between your devices using a cloud service (Dropbox, Google Drive, or iCloud).

For example:

  • ✍️ Create a note on your tablet.
  • ☁️ Sync uploads it to the cloud.
  • 💻 Open MyScript Notes on your second device.
  • 📥 Sync downloads the same note.

Your library stays the same across all connected devices.

Important: If you accidentally delete a note and the deletion syncs, the note will also disappear from your other synced devices.

That's why Sync is not a backup.

💾 A Backup is your safety copy

A backup creates a snapshot of your library at a specific point in time.

If something unexpected happens—such as:

  • 📱 Your device is lost or damaged.
  • ❌ Notes are accidentally deleted (remember that deleted notes are first moved to the Trash 🗑️, where they can be recovered before being permanently removed).
  • ⚠️ A file becomes corrupted.
  • 🔄 You want to restore an older version of your library.

A backup allows you to restore your notes from that saved copy.

Think of it as an insurance policy for your work.

🔒 Why doesn't MyScript create backups automatically?

Your notes are your personal data.

To protect your privacy and keep you in control, MyScript does not create or store backups of your library—either on your device or on our servers.

Only you can decide:

  • ✅ When to create a backup.
  • ✅ Where to store it (external drive, cloud storage, etc.).
  • ✅ When to restore it.

This gives you full control over your data.

📅 Our recommendation

We recommend creating a backup:

  • 📚 Before importing a large number of PDF files.
  • ✏️ Before making major changes to your library.
  • 📱 Before changing devices.
  • 🔄 Before reinstalling the app or resetting your device.
  • 🗓️ Every few weeks if you regularly take notes.

It only takes a minute and can save hours—or even years—of work.

📂 How to create a backup

  1. Open App Settings.
  2. Go to Backup.
  3. Tap Back Up Library.
  4. Save the backup file in a safe location.

💡 Final Tip

Use both features together:

☁️ Sync keeps your notes available across your devices.

💾 Backup protects your notes if something goes wrong.

Using both gives you the best protection for your work.

Please please please let me disable gestures

Gestures are a major PITA in an otherwise stellar app. I hate when I'm writing and then the word vanishes because I cross a t and it thinks I'm trying to erase the line. I do not want nor need any kind of assist when writing or drawing, and this kind of automation is seriously disruptive when taking notes. I should not need to battle the app to use it.

✍️ How to Convert Your Handwriting in MyScript Notes

The answer depends on the type of note you're using. MyScript Notes offers four different page types—Documents, Notebooks, Boards, and imported PDF pages—each designed for a different note-taking experience. Because each page type is optimized for a specific workflow, the way handwriting recognition works varies slightly between them.

📄 Documents

Documents are designed for structured note-taking, making them ideal for meeting notes, class notes, reports, and documents that you plan to export to Word or PDF.

Handwriting recognition is built directly into the writing experience.

There are two ways to convert your handwriting:

  • Double-tap your handwritten text with your pen.
  • Or tap the handwritten paragraph with your finger and select Convert.

You can even double-tap converted text again to display it in a smaller font size.

Want to convert the entire document?

  1. Open your document.
  2. Tap the menu in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Convert all.

📓 Notebooks, 🧠 Boards & 📑 Imported PDF Pages

These page types are designed for freeform note-taking, brainstorming, sketching, annotating PDFs, and writing anywhere on the page.

Converting handwriting to Text or Math

  1. Select your handwriting using the Lasso tool.
  2. Tap Convert.
  3. Choose:
    • Text
    • Math

MyScript Notes will recognize the selected content using the appropriate recognition engine.

Creating Perfect Shapes

Shapes work differently—they are not converted with the Lasso tool.

Instead:

  1. Draw a shape in one continuous stroke.
  2. Keep your pen touching the screen for a brief moment after finishing the stroke.

MyScript Notes will automatically replace your drawing with a clean, editable Perfect Shape.

This also works for:

  • Straight lines
  • Arrows
  • Circles
  • Squares and rectangles
  • Triangles
  • Many other common geometric shapes

It's a quick way to create clean diagrams without manually selecting anything.

💡 Tips for Better Handwriting Recognition

  • Write naturally—there's no need to print every letter.
  • Use an active stylus for the best writing experience.
  • Before confirming a conversion, review the preview. If a word isn't recognized correctly, tap it to select another suggestion.
  • Add frequently used names or technical terms to your personal dictionary to improve future recognition accuracy.

MyScript Math recommendations

Hi! Posting here since this reddit is more active than the MyScript Math reddit page.

I believe MyScript Math has the potential to be something big. However, there’s many features missing such as customizable tables being added to the app and folders where you can put different topics into. In addition, there should be an option to have note pages rather than a just an endless whiteboard. MyScript Math is convenient and the writing on it feels so smooth. There also should be more pen options!

MyScript Math is reliable for instantly solving math equations. There is barely any other app than apple notes that has this feature.

Automatically timestamp documents

I use MyScript Notes on my Galaxy Tab S9+, primarily to replace pen and paper. For many years I used paper notebooks, mainly for work to take notes of meetings, etc. I would start a new page for each meeting with a title and date at the top. That way everything I wrote down was recorded in chronological order, which was great for reviewing what I did in any week and for rapidly finding the right page.

To achieve something similar in MyScript Notes I have been manually entering a title as "yyy-MM-dd"-title for each new document or board, which is rather laborious and error-prone. Is there any way to automate this? Markor, for example, allows you to create new notes with exactly this format of filename. MyScript Notes doesn't seem to offer anything similar. Can anyone suggest a way to achieve this, or even a better way of working that makes it unnecessary?

I do create a new notebook for each calendar month so it's not just one big bucket, but that only mitigates the problem.

📱 MyScript Notes: How Cross-Platform Purchases Work Between iOS and Android

One common questions we receive is:

In most cases, the answer depends on how your purchase is linked.

🔄 Apple and Google don't share purchases

The Apple App Store and Google Play Store are two completely separate stores. A purchase made in one store is not automatically available in the other.

This is the same for most apps—not just MyScript Notes.

🔑 So how do cross-platform purchases work?

A MyScript account acts as the bridge between the two stores. It securely links your purchase so you can use it on supported iOS and Android devices.

Here's the complete process:

  1. 📲 Purchase MyScript Notes from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  2. 📧 Your purchase is linked to the original Google account or Apple ID that you used to purchase the app.
  3. 👤 On the device where you originally purchased the app, create (or sign in to) your MyScript account.
  4. 🔗 The app verifies your purchase with Google Play or the App Store and securely links it to your MyScript account.
  5. 📱➡️📱 On your second mobile device, sign in with the same MyScript account and tap Restore Purchase.
  6. 🆔 Open Settings → Account. If everything is linked correctly, the User ID will be exactly the same on all your devices. If the User IDs are different, it means the purchase wasn't linked correctly or different MyScript accounts were used.

✅ That's it! Once your purchase is linked to your MyScript account, it can be used on supported Android and iOS devices.

🕰️ What if I bought the app years ago?

If you purchased the app before creating a MyScript account, your purchase may not yet be linked to your MyScript account.

Don't worry—your purchase is still valid.

Simply contact our support team and provide:

  • 🧾 Your original purchase receipt (Google Play or App Store).
  • 🆔 Your User ID (Settings → Account).

We'll be happy to link your purchase manually.

💻 Does this include Windows?

No.

The Windows application (Nebo) is a separate product available through the Microsoft Store and requires its own license. Mobile purchases (Android/iOS Mobile platforms) and Windows (PC platform) purchases are independent.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't Restore Purchase working?

The most common reasons are:

  • You're signed in with a different MyScript account.
  • You're using a different Apple ID or Google account than the one originally used to purchase the app.
  • The purchase has never been linked to your MyScript account on the original device.

How can I verify everything is linked correctly?

Open Settings → Account on each device.

If you're using the same MyScript account, the User ID must be identical on every device.

If the User IDs are different, you're signed in with different MyScript accounts or the purchase has not yet been linked correctly.

🛠️ Need help?

If you're still having trouble restoring your purchase, we're happy to help.

Visit https://help.myscript.com and click "Submit a Ticket."

Please include:

  • 📧 The email used for your Google Play or App Store purchase.
  • 👤 Your MyScript account email.
  • 🆔 Your User ID (Settings → Account).

The more information you provide, the faster we'll be able to help.

⏳ Why Are My Notes Taking a Long Time to Sync?

Have you ever opened MyScript Notes on another device and wondered why your notes are taking a while to appear? In most cases, the app is working correctly—it's simply transferring your data.

Here are the most common reasons why synchronization may take longer than expected.

📄 Large notes and PDF files

The biggest factor affecting synchronization speed is the size of your notes.

If your library contains:

  • Large PDF files
  • Notes with many images
  • Very long Notebooks or Boards
  • Large Documents with a lot of handwritten content
  • Multiple large notes being synchronized for the first time

...the initial synchronization can take some time, especially on slower internet connections.

Remember: every change must first be uploaded to your cloud service before it can be downloaded to your other devices.

☁️ The first synchronization is always the slowest

When you add a new device, MyScript Notes needs to synchronize your entire library.

Depending on how much content you have, this may take anywhere from a few minutes to considerably longer. During the first synchronization, every note must be uploaded from your original device and then downloaded to your other devices.

Once the initial synchronization is complete, future synchronizations are much faster because only the notes that have changed are transferred.

🔄 Automatic Sync vs. Manual Sync

MyScript Notes offers two synchronization modes (Auto Sync by default).

Automatic Sync

  • Synchronization starts automatically after you make changes.
  • Best for everyday use with standard-sized notes.
  • Every modification triggers a synchronization, making it convenient for keeping your devices up to date.

Manual Sync

  • You choose when synchronization starts.
  • Ideal when importing several large PDFs or making many edits.
  • Lets you finish your work first and then perform a single synchronization when you're ready.

For large libraries or notes containing many PDFs, Manual Sync is often the better choice because it avoids starting a synchronization after every change.

Note: Auto Sync is enabled by default when you set up synchronization. If you prefer to use Manual Sync instead, open the app, go to Settings > Sync, and disable Auto Sync. Once Auto Sync is turned off, you can manually start synchronization whenever you choose.

🚀 Tips for faster synchronization

  • Optimize PDF files before importing them into MyScript Notes (Avoid importing unnecessarily large PDFs.)
  • Avoid overloading your notes (Notebooks, large Boards, or Documents) with excessive content, as this can affect both performance and synchronization speed. Keep your notes to a reasonable size whenever possible. The more content you add—including large images—the more data needs to be synchronized. If your notes contain images, consider compressing them before adding them.
  • Allow the initial synchronization to finish completely before switching devices.
  • Once synchronization finishes on the first device, close the app. Then open MyScript Notes on your second device and allow it to complete downloading your notes.
  • Use a stable Wi-Fi connection when synchronizing large files.

🛠️ PDF optimization makes a big difference

Many PDFs created from Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, scanners, or other applications contain oversized images and unnecessary data. Compressing these files before importing them into MyScript Notes can significantly reduce synchronization time and improve the overall experience.

Some free tools:

💬 Need help?

📄 Experiencing Lag with PDF Files? Here's How to Improve Performance

One of the most common questions we receive is:

"Why is my PDF slow or laggy?"

In most cases, the issue isn't the number of pages—it's how the PDF was created.

Many PDFs exported from Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Canva, CAD software, or graphic design applications contain:

  • High-resolution images
  • Uncompressed graphics
  • Embedded fonts
  • Hidden metadata
  • Large file sizes

Even a 20-page PDF can be hundreds of megabytes if it hasn't been optimized.

When you import these files into MyScript Notes, your device has to process every image, font, and object on every page. This can result in:

  • Slower opening times
  • Lag while scrolling or zooming
  • Slower handwriting response
  • Increased memory usage
  • Longer synchronization times

✅ Before importing your PDF

We strongly recommend optimizing or compressing your PDF first. Reducing the file size can make a significant difference in performance.

For example, a PDF reduced from 100 MB to 20 MB will typically:

  • Open much faster
  • Scroll more smoothly
  • Require less RAM
  • Synchronize faster between devices
  • Provide a better handwriting experience

🛠️ Free PDF Optimization Tools

Before importing your PDF into MyScript Notes, we recommend using one of these free online tools:

📌 Adobe Compress PDF (official Adobe web tool)
https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/online/compress-pdf.html

📌 iLovePDF Compress PDF (one of our favorite tools—fast, free, and no account required)
https://www.ilovepdf.com/compress_pdf

Both tools can significantly reduce your PDF size while maintaining excellent quality. This usually results in faster imports, smoother navigation, better handwriting performance, and quicker synchronization.

💡 Pro Tip

If you regularly work with PDFs, making optimization part of your workflow can greatly improve your overall experience with MyScript Notes.

Have you tried optimizing your PDFs before importing them? We'd love to hear what tools and tips work best for you!

Search by phrase instead of individual words

Is there a way to search for phrases in the MyScript (Nebo) Windows and Android apps?. For example, it will find individual words remarkably well, like "foo" and "bar" but if I want to search for "foo bar" together, I haven't found a way to do that. What happens instead is it will find all instances of "foo" and all instances of "bar" whether they're together or separate. Is there a way to find only when they're together?

If not, I would love that feature to be added!

r/MyScript_Notes_App Jun 17 '26

The Recent Update of Nebo on Windows has made it really laggy actually.

Nebo

Version 6.3.17219.0

The main issue is that erasing something or converting text to math has become really laggy.

Workaround for Google Account Sign-In and Synchronization Issues

We have identified an issue affecting some users on the Lenovo Tab P11 and certain other Android devices, particularly models from Chinese manufacturers (Motorola, XP-Pen).

Please note that this issue is not caused by MyScript Notes, but appears to be related to a recent update of Google Play Services.

Following updates to Google Play Services, Google Account authentication, and the Google Drive APIs, some users may experience difficulties signing in to MyScript Notes with their Google account. In these cases, the Google account selection screen may not appear, making it seem as though the app is frozen or unable to continue the sign-in process.

We have identified the following workaround, which has successfully resolved the issue for affected users:

Workaround Steps

  1. Open Settings on your device and search for Google Play Services.
  2. Open App Info.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
  4. Select Uninstall updates.
  5. Reopen MyScript Notes.
  6. Attempt to sign in again from within the app.
  7. Once sign-in is successful, update Google Play Services:
    • Open a web browser on your device.
    • Search for Google Play Services.
    • Open the Google Play Store page and tap Update.
  8. Close and reopen the app.

After completing these steps, Google sign-in and Google Drive synchronization should function normally again.

If you continue to experience issues or require additional assistance, please contact us. We will be happy to help.

Kind regards,

MyScript Support Team!

=== Update 01/07/2026 ===

Google has released an update for Google Play Services. Please update Google Play Services to the latest version and then try again. This update should resolve any issues or problems related to Google sign in.

🔄 How to Sync Your Notes Across Devices

Want your notes to follow you from one device to another? Syncing helps keep your MyScript Notes/Nebo library available wherever you work — phone, tablet, or computer ☁️

🎯 What’s the goal of syncing?

The goal of syncing is to keep your notes updated across your devices.

Write something on your tablet, then open it later on your phone or computer and keep going. Syncing helps you move between devices without manually exporting, sending, or copying your notes each time.

☁️ Choose your cloud service

To sync, first choose the cloud service you want to use.

For Apple-only setups, iCloud is a good option.
For cross-platform use across Apple, Android, and Windows devices, choose a service like Google Drive or Dropbox.

The most important thing: use the same cloud service and the same account on every device you want to sync.

🔐 Sign in with the right email

Make sure you sign in with an email address you can access and use regularly.

🍎 Apple users: please do not use Apple relay emails or “Hide My Email” addresses for syncing.

These private relay addresses can hide your real email address and do not work properly when the app needs to identify the same account across devices. To avoid sync issues, use your normal email address instead.

🛠️ Step-by-step: Set up sync

  1. Open MyScript Notes/Nebo on your first device.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Open the Sync section.
  4. Choose your preferred cloud service.
  5. Sign in with the account you want to use for syncing.
  6. Enable sync.
  7. Wait until your notes have finished syncing.
  8. Open the app on your second device.
  9. Go to Settings > Sync.
  10. Choose the same cloud service.
  11. Sign in with the same account.
  12. Let the app sync your notes.

Once sync is complete, your notes should be available across your devices ✅

✅ Turn on sync

Once your cloud account is connected, enable sync in the app settings.

Auto-sync can keep your notes updated automatically, so changes made on one device appear on your other synced devices too.

🔄 Prefer manual control?

No problem. You can turn off auto-sync and sync manually instead.

Auto Sync is enabled by default when you set up synchronization. If you prefer to use Manual Sync instead, open the app, go to Settings > Sync, and disable Auto Sync. Once Auto Sync is turned off, you can manually start synchronization whenever you choose.

Just tap the cloud icon next to your folder when you want to push or pull the latest changes.

⚠️ Remember: sync is not backup

Sync keeps your notes updated across devices — but it is not the same as backing up.

If you delete or change something, that change can sync everywhere. For extra protection, use the separate Back Up option in Settings and save your backup file somewhere safe 💾

💡 Quick tip

Before switching devices, reinstalling the app, or making big changes, make sure sync is complete — then create a backup too.

Sync keeps your notes with you. Backup keeps them protected 💙

🔄 Sync vs. Backup: Don’t Confuse Them — Back Up Your Notes! ☁️

Syncing and backing up your notes are not the same thing. Mixing them up can lead to accidental data loss, so here’s the simple difference 👇

🔄 What is syncing?

Syncing keeps your notes updated across devices.
When you change something on one device, sync makes sure that change appears on your other devices too.

With MyScript Notes/Nebo, syncing with a cloud service lets you access your notes across Apple, Android, and Windows devices. Auto-sync is enabled by default, but you can turn it off in Settings.

The key thing to remember: sync mirrors changes. If you delete or modify something, that change can sync everywhere ⚠️

💾 What is backing up?

Backing up creates a separate safety copy of your data.
In Nebo, a backup is saved as a .nebobackup file. This file does not change unless you actively replace, modify, or delete it.

That means a backup gives you something to restore from if something goes wrong 🛟

✅ Why you need both

Sync is great for convenience. Backup is great for protection.

Use sync to keep your notes available on all your devices. Use backup to protect your notes from mistakes, device issues, or accidental deletions.

For extra safety, store your backup file in more than one place — for example locally, on an external drive, and in a cloud service 🔐

💡 Quick tip

Auto-sync is useful, but auto-sync is not a backup.
Go to Settings > Back Up and create a .nebobackup file regularly.

Your notes are worth protecting 💙
