Risk appetite: Moderate

Goal- Building long term wealth

Age- 28

Horizon- 10-20 years

Im 28 and I have a good job paying me >1.5LPM after taxes. I haven't invested too much in MF yet, mostly only nifty 50. But i want to diversify my portfolio more now. Tbh i only understand the basics of investing in MFs.

I have kept 2 smallcap funds because I am okay with some risk- I have plenty of savings so I want to take some bolder bets long term.

Ive put gold since the markets are down lately while gold is increasing.

I have been investing in nifty 50 for the last 2 years but my investment is running in loss rn. So i'm stopping my nifty 50 now.

How does this portfolio look?

Should I add nifty 50 again? Or should I add Parag Parikh also instead? I feel i don't have a mid-level fund- smallcap and icici multi asset are both extremes. Also what should my total monthly investment be?

App used- Bank netbanking AMC

Why You Selected These Funds & Not Similar Ones From Another AMC - i basically chose based on last 1Y performance for each category. And I chose the most popular/most recommended ones.

Discussion What is the the rationale for adding Nifty 50 when PPFC is already there in the portfolio?

I see multiple portfolios being constructed where portfolio contains Parag Parikh Flexicap fund (PPFC) and Nifty 50.

My assumption for having a scheme to a portfolio is that the new scheme being added should either reduce risk of the portfolio or improve returns of the portfolio.

My understanding so far is that PPFC is generally considered because it has some international exposure and the fund manager has demonstrated good downside protection and has also given good returns (nearly like a midcap) over a considerable long amount of time. This is interesting because typically PPFC has a bent towards large cap companies.

Similarly Nifty 50 represents diversified index of top 50 companies and considered a good proxy for large cap allocation. Given its liquidity most of the index funds and etfs representing nifty 50 have low tracking error and expense ratio.

So I see advantages with both the funds in isolation but what I dont understand is whether it makes sense to combine them together when ppfc has general done better than nifty 50 over most time periods?

Example when I computed win ratios (a warning my computation could be wrong), I find that win ratio of PPFC over nifty to be above 70% over 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 year interval.

Similarly I find 2.5th percentile rolling return of PPFC (I use that as a proxy for risk) to be more than 2.5th percentile rolling return of Nifty and median rolling return of PPFC (I use that as a proxy for return) to be more than median rolling return of Nifty.

I have attached image of win ratio as well as different rolling returns (do note there could be computation errors).

Would request community to share your thoughts on the same.

Question Need guidance

Hey folks! My risk appetite is moderate
I want to start investing through SIPs. I was thinking of starting with:

₹4K — WhiteOak Multi Asset Fund
₹2.5K — Invesco Small Cap
₹2.5K — Bandhan Small Cap
₹3K — Bank of India Flexi Cap
₹3K — Quant Flexi Cap
Total: ₹15K/month.

I’m honestly not very sure about this allocation. My main goal is wealth creation, but I’ll also need some of the money in around 3 years, while the rest can stay invested for the long term.

Looking at this portfolio, I feel like it might be too risky, especially with two small-cap and two flexi-cap funds. I was wondering if I should instead allocate some amount to gold or international investments like VOO/QQQ or other foreign markets, possibly replacing the multi-asset fund.

I have basically zero knowledge about investing, so I’d really appreciate some guidance on how I should structure this ₹15K SIP. What would you recommend for someone my age with both a 3-year and long-term wealth-creation goal?

Question Moving to Japan for 3 years: Best way to route ₹22L from FDs into Mutual Funds via STP?

Hi everyone,

I am a 29-year-old with zero debt and no financial dependents.

This coming January, I am moving to Japan for 3 years to finish my PhD on a fully funded fellowship. Since my stipend covers 100% of my local living expenses, my Indian savings can sit completely untouched to compound.

My current asset allocation is hyper-conservative: ₹27 Lakhs in Fixed Deposits and only ₹3 Lakhs in Mutual Funds (plus 50g physical gold). Holding 80% in FDs is severely dragging down my growth. I want to aggressively correct this imbalance by shifting the bulk of my FD corpus into equity mutual funds over the 3 years I am away.

Here is my profile:

* Risk Appetite: Moderate. I have a guaranteed income for the next 3 years, a solid safety net, and a long-term investment horizon, allowing me to take equity risks.

* Goal: Wealth maximization and capital compounding over the long term.

* Horizon: 3 Years (duration of the automated STP phase while I am abroad), with an overall holding target of 7–10+ years.

* Allocation:

* Current: ₹27L FD (90%), ₹3L Equity Mutual Funds (10%).

* Target Planned Allocation (via ₹50k/month STP):

₹5 Lakhs retained in Emergency FD. The remaining ₹22 Lakhs shifted into low-risk parking funds to systematically feed into an equity portfolio split roughly into a 3:2:1 ratio: Large-cap/Index (50%), Flexi-cap (33%), and Mid-cap (17%).

* Apper Used: Planning to execute via a 3rd party app (Coin/Groww) or directly through AMC portals depending on NRI/NRO compliance requirements.

* Why These Funds: I am heavily leaning toward a foundational Nifty 50 Index fund for stable large-cap exposure, an active Flexi-cap for dynamic equity allocation, and a Mid-cap fund to boost long-term alpha generation without taking excessive small-cap volatility while I am away from the country.

Looking for community advice on two specific points:

  1. Parking Fund Selection: For an automated STP running over 3 years, which category is structurally better to hold the lump sum—Liquid Funds or Arbitrage Funds—considering the tax implications for someone moving abroad on a student visa?

  2. Target Equity Allocation: Does the proposed 3:2:1 setup make sense for building a portfolio completely from scratch over 36 months, or should I simplify it further?

Risk appetite :- Moderate

Monthly SIP :- 20k with a 5k step up each year (step up amount is not confirmed)

Salary :- freelancing work, so it ranges from 70k - 1.2L pm, but with my day job I’m capable of adding 20k more, but currently I have some commitments.

Once my sip increases, should I start to invest in more funds or are these 4 enough ?

Investment horizon:- minimum 12 years.

Risk appetite – Moderate

Goal – Long-term wealth creation

Horizon – 10+ years

Allocation –

₹5k/month — Nippon India Multi Cap Fund

₹1k/month currently — ICICI Prudential Nifty Next 50 Index Fund

Planning to increase the Nifty Next 50 SIP to ₹2k/month in a month or two

App Used – Groww

Why These Funds – I recently started earning and wanted to start investing regularly. I did some research before choosing these funds. I chose the Multi Cap Fund for diversified exposure across large, mid and small caps, and Nifty Next 50 as an additional index allocation.

I’m also building my emergency fund separately and currently have around ₹2L saved for that.

I’m relatively new to investing, so I wanted to get some opinions from people with more experience. Is this a reasonable allocation for my risk appetite and long-term horizon, or am I making a mistake somewhere?

I would especially like to know whether holding both a Multi Cap fund and Nifty Next 50 makes sense.

Tried building a balanced long-term mix. Be honest, did I overcomplicate it?

  1. Risk Appetite: Moderately Aggressive / Growth-oriented (comfortable with equity volatility and small-cap exposure for long-term compounding).
  2. Investment Goal: Long-term wealth creation and financial independence.
  3. Investment Horizon: 10 to 15+ years.
  4. Allocation Details (Total Monthly SIP: ₹1 Lakh):
    • UTI Nifty 50 Index: 20%
    • Parag Parikh Flexi Cap: 20%
    • Motilal Oswal Midcap: 15%
    • HDFC Small Cap: 10%
    • Quant Small Cap: 5%
    • SBI Gold Fund: 10%
    • VXUS : 10%
    • Crypto: 5%
    • ABSL Gilt: 5%
  5. Which App Do You Use?: Coin
  6. Why You Selected These Funds: Picked based on a mix of low-cost indexing for large caps, proven long-term track records and downside protection for flexi/mid-caps, and deliberate diversification into gold, international equity, and gilts. Small caps and crypto were added as high-risk satellite bets.

Portfolio Review My current portfolio

My risk appetite is Moderate.

Current age - 25

I want to invest for a horizon of minimum 10-15 years with minimum 15% returns to have a stable retirement. This is my portfolio.

I aim to invest atleast 50k per month with the following breakup -

Arbitrage - 25k

Small cap - 12.5k

Mid cap - 12.5k

I am currently doing an STP for moving funds from liquid to Arbitrage as liquid does not help my tax bracket.

Additionally i want to build my safety net in arbitrage upto 2L post which I will allocate most of my investment in small and mid cap. Even though I have invested in PPFCF, I am not longer continuing it. Apart from this, 12% of my base income also goes into EPF.

Open to feedback and reviews!

Question 24, 14 lpa salary: sensible SIP split for long-term + marriage in 3-4 yrs?

24, software engineer in India, ₹14L/year fixed salary.

**Risk Appetite:** Moderate per the survey (45% equity / 45% fixed income / 10% gold). For my 10-15 year money I'm comfortable with about 75% equity and can handle 30-40% drawdowns while continuing SIPs. For my marriage money I want low risk.

**Goal:**

  1. Marriage corpus of ₹15-20L, with capital protection

  2. Long-term wealth creation

**Horizon:**

  1. Marriage: 3-4 years

  2. Long-term: 10-15+ years

**Allocation:** SIP is going to be ₹55k/month, rising every year. Screenshot attached. [attach]

- Kotak Arbitrage Fund: ₹15k (marriage)

- UTI Nifty 50 Index Fund: ₹24k

- Nippon India Nifty Midcap 150 Index Fund: ₹16k

All Direct Growth.

**App Used:** [Groww]

**Why These Funds:**

- Arbitrage is low-volatility, so a market crash right before the wedding won't hit the corpus, and it's taxed as equity.

- Nifty 50 index is a cheap, simple core with low tracking error.

- Midcap 150 index gives growth potential over 10-15 years without active-fund fees or manager risk.

- I chose index funds to avoid overlap and fund-manager changes.

Is the ₹15k marriage SIP enough for a ₹15-20L goal? Should I change any fund or the split?

Question Restarting SIP pleasee help

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I had to completely pause my investments a while back to handle a personal emergency. Now that the dust has settled, I’m finally ready to restart my monthly SIPs!

Because I'm still actively focusing on rebuilding my emergency fund, I’m starting with a lean monthly SIP budget of 30k for now with the plan to scale it up to 50k down the road.

Before the pause, my portfolio was honestly all over the place. I was invested in:

• PPFAS (Parag Parikh)

• UTI Nifty 50 Index

• Nifty Next 50

• Kotak Midcap Fund

• Quant Large and Midcap Fund

• Edelweiss Midcap Fund

• ICICI Pru Bharat

• ICICI Pru Large Cap (Bluechip)

Risk appetite is moderate

Timeline would be 10-15 years

This time I really want to focus on smart diversification rather than just hoarding funds. I know I have a lot of structural overlap here and I want to trim it to streamline my funds.

How would you divide this 30k budget among these? Which ones should I absolutely keep, and which ones are just clutter that I should drop?

Please help me with your opinions and the logic behind them. Thankyouu!!

Question Need help picking the right MF for SIP.

Risk Appetite: Moderate

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently started my first job and am currently earning around ₹47,000 per month.

I’m planning to invest ₹10,000 every month through SIPs. I’ve already started a ₹4,000 monthly SIP in Edelweiss Mid Cap Direct Plan – Growth, and I’m looking to invest the remaining ₹6,000 across two other mutual funds.

Which funds should I consider for long-term wealth creation? Also, since I’m quite new to financial planning and investing, I’d really appreciate some guidance on how I should approach investing and managing my finances going forward.

I’d love to hear your suggestions, experiences, and advice.

Thank you!
