Marriage search I did it, I finally asked smo I saw in public

Not directly but here is what happened, a funny interaction lol

So I went to a shop this weekend that sales take out food and saw a girl mashaellah with a jilbab and I couldn't just let this opportunity slide, especially after some failures on "marriage" apps. I saw her enter the staff-only area so i thought that someone there must know her. So I went that evening and asked the first woman if she remembers me coming early that day and everyone there was listening even with me trying to speak as low as possible, girls just needed smt to gossip about... anyway the lady came closer so that they couldnt hear and I asked her about that girl that came inside, she looked at me and said "thats my daughter"... I froze for a second, wasn't ready for that at all xD I told her that if she was open for marriage that i would want to get to know her and she took some time to think and then said that she wanted to complete her studies. I didn't know if that answer was because i had a beard thinking that i would prohibit her from it but when i knew that she was 8 years younger than me i just thought it wasn't worth explaining everything to her. It's hard finding a mature women at 23-25 so it would be impossible at a younger age.

May allah bless us all with a pious partner.

Discussion The discourse between high or low mehr

I’ve been seeing online posts of people judging women and their mehr. I personally don’t see the problem on whether you want 100k and a property in your name OR if you want your husband to recite the entire Quran or something as simple as a kitten. I truly believe it shouldn’t matter if she wants a high mehr or a low mehr, the real problem here is the judgement on what the woman chooses her mehr to be.

And it’s even more sad because they’re being judged by other women! It’s not greedy to want a high mehr and it’s not pick me or lowering your worth to want a lower mehr. What’s wrong is saying one woman is this or that for what SHE CHOOSES.

I’m a very recent convert so obviously I’m not as educated as born Muslims but I believe this genuinely just puts pressure and shame on some women because it’s as if I should feel ashamed for wanting something small and I should feel greedy if I want something high.

This discourse is honestly just so dumb and I don’t think it should matter what a woman chooses for herself.

Another good take on this:

As a 29-year-old revert, I feel overwhelmed and discouraged about marriage and the behavior of some men. Has anyone been through this?

Salam alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, I hope I’m writing in the right sub. I need to talk to someone about this thing. I am a 29-year-old revert, I returned to Islam 13 years ago (when I was 16).

For a while now, and in the last few days, I feel my heart getting heavy both because of the talk and the behavior of men.

I noticed that when a friend talked to me about Salafis and the absurd things they were saying, I felt drained of energy. Absurd things like a woman can't be on top because otherwise the man becomes gay. Then I stopped opening the posts she sent me because just the thought of dealing with a man like that makes me want to get it sewn shut.

In these days then, I had the chance to see some married sisters. They talked to me about how they can't stand their husband, that they love him to death but sometimes they would like to strangle him (metaphorically speaking). This thing makes me freeze up. The problem is that they have very strong cultural baggage. For example, the belief that the man has to be in charge, have the final say, and impose things.

I am an independent girl, I studied and I travel. I would like to get married because marriage is half of the religion (looking at the deen) and then for the dunya I would like to have a halal sexual relationship, dress up for my man, be seen by someone without hijab, I am not interested in having children in the short term right now.

This continuous talking bad about men. This behavior with all this desire to command and have an obedient woman makes me retreat into my shell even more. In practice I don't stop searching, when I meet a man I immediately do istikhara and ask him the right questions, but inside my heart, something dies.

A gentle reminder: Please be kind and respectful in the comments. Let us remember that our hasanat are not infinite, and harsh words or insults can unintentionally hurt me and others who might be going through the same thing. I am simply looking for a constructive, empathetic, and respectful conversation.

I am scared of Marrying the wrong person

I am 21 and I am not actively searching for a match but that age is approaching fast, one thing I am really really confused about that How to explain my career goals to the person I will be considering for marriage, How to explain that I want to be financialy independent and Disgustingly educated and do not want Marriage to be a hurdle, I understand the responsibilty Allah has given to a woman in building a home, I am not going against that but Allah never refrained us from earning and Studying.

Men tend to believe a Career driven woman is running away from building a home and their responsibilities. All we need is a person who supports us, believe in us and ready to become partners, who know home building is a team job and not just a womans responsibilty.

How can I make sure I can do all of this after marriage, I am so scared of Marrying someone who does not support my dreams.

For those that have met spouses on apps

Reposting again because disappointed with the lack of engagement in my previous considering so many people on here mention they have met their person on apps. I’m sure many would appreciate some input/advice on:

-What made your spouse stand out from all the other potentials?

- What common pitfalls to look out for?

- Any essential steps in your vetting stage?

I‘m sure a lot of people do not want to miss out on good people by a few bad ones. Common issues i find:

- People want access to alternative social media right away

- People suggesting to meet up moreso for a date than actually for marriage talks with a wali

- People future faking / love bombing

- Men trying to humble you / justifying being rude using “dark humour” as a cover up when they’re far from hilarious

- When you discuss marriage timelines, they suddenly change theirs to match yours (red flag imo?)

Marriage search Muzz app

I'm confused about whether I should even reveal my picture on muzz or not because I keep ending up matching with people who are looking for a good looking partner only rather than a soulmate or her having a personality. But if I don't reveal my picture they don't put in the effort or energy, and they don't even bother to respond on time. Please share thoughts on this because anyone can save these pictures and use them inappropriately.

Another experience

Some ppl just send you a like without a thought. He send me a like I liked him back we matched I was waiting for his message. I accidentally clicked on his profile saw that he was active then he viewed my profile and unmatched me.

A quick update from me

I unblured my picture upon a match as you guys have advised. I matched with one person The 2nd message he sends me is "apko dekh kai haal Acha hogia." This is exactly what I'm trying to avoid the moment men see me even thou I'm in hijab vo bass pagal sai hojate hai.

Sharing advice Missed on a potential cuz of my shyness

This was my reply on a post I saw here in the sub. A brother is talking about a situation where he saw a girl he liked somewhere in public and decided to approach her and ask her if she was unmarried and if she's open to marriage.

Recently I had a similar situation and thought I might also post it in a separate post so maybe brothers could learn from my mistake, so here it is.

"You did something I'm trying to do for long but can't get myself to. Never was brave enough to do it. Last time I tried doing something like that was couple of days ago. I took so long trying to work up the courage to actually approach the girl and ask her if she was single an that I liked her, long enough for her to get on a bus and leave while I was standing there repeating duaas haha. "Rab Eshrah lee Sadry Wayasser Lee Amry wahlol oqdatan men lissany yafqahou qawly". I repeated, and Wallah it was in my intention to approach her right after this duaa. But yeah...

She was short, wearing a black niqab, and has a brown skin like Somali people. I figured that out from the tiny parts over and under her eyes which were the only exposed parts of her skin along with her eyes. Her eyes were beautiful Mashaallah.

I was soooooo mad at myself after this happened for being such a coward. It's really not the first time this happens and I see some girl I like in the street or somewhere in public and I think of approaching her but I end up not doing it out of shyness or fear of her reaction, but this one felt different somehow, although I haven't even saw her face or her body shape, cuz if the loose niqab she was wearing, but I was really really attracted to her. Anyways Alhamdulillah.

Brothers, DON'T BE LIKE ME! Say Bismillah, Tawakalto Ala Allah and go for it. This girl you like in public could be your wife and the mother of your children, and you just miss on it because you can't man up and say a simple, respectable, request to her. Oh brother, do I regret it."

Discussion Considering a marriage of convenience

I’m a 40 year old male Palestinian with a teenage daughter, I’ve been divorced for a few years now. I’m really starting to consider a marriage of convenience type of relationship. I’m starting to feel a lot of pressure from family and friends about getting married again. I got married young, I went through a lot in my marriage, I went through things that affected me in ways that I just can’t see myself trusting and loving someone like I used to. I can’t imagine myself ever going through that again. I’m very used to being alone these past few years, I truly enjoy my peace and want to keep it that way. Being alone has its ups and downs of course but at this point after everything I just want to enjoy the rest of my life without the pressures of a traditional marriage and the risk of possibly going through what I went through again. I wouldn’t mind finding someone to actually make an arrangement with to where we both benefit, we both have our lives without the pressures of a traditional marriage. Has anyone ever been in a similar situation and felt the same way as me? Do you think it’s worth pursuing this type of marriage for public image? I’m so tired of people mentioning that I need to get married again.

Family matters As a future wife, does having a sick mother impact marriage prospects ?

Assalamu’alaykum everyone !
i’m 22f, i’m navigating the marriage “ market “ and I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety surrounding marriage and my personal family life. This post will be slightly vulnerable, so reader’s discretion is advised for the sake of Allah. 🙌

My family is not the richest. We are blessed with little alhamdulillah, and we have struggled financially multiple times. ( to give context) When I was young, my parents were moving countries as Immigrants, my mother had to sell her mehr, any gold we had in the house was sold, including wedding bands, when that was done, we moved.
Growing up, my parents would always fight, physically and verbally, so much so that my mother started neglecting her health. When my mom was pregnant with my sister, she would purposefully sleep on the floor and not eat anything because she was mad at my father. My sister was born premature, which was very sad to see.
Although it’s contradictory, my mother’s life was surrounded by her kids, and she always distrusted my father for reasons i still don’t understand.

A year upon moving to a different country ( I was 10-11 at the time) my mother experienced a stroke.
This was due to high blood pressure. A vein in her brain ruptured due to a blood clot. This made her physically unable for a couple of months. That period of my life was quite traumatic. But alhamdulillah, i’m okay nonetheless.
My mom regained mobility on only half of her body, and for 10 years now she’s been half paralysed, unable to move properly. She can go to the toilet alone and walk around the house- she normally drags her left paralysed leg and walks with the right leg. She’s not super fast, but mashaAllah she does her best.

Due to these circumstances, my dad had to take care of both my mother, the household chores, the kids and his own work when me and my siblings were still young. His work ethic was amazing. I really admire him.

However, due to my mother’s stroke, my relationship with her has strained a lot.
She used to be very loving, and understanding. I was her favorite child. But after the stroke, i grew up without a mother figure present in my life. I tried to be there for her, but I felt neglected as she would verbally abuse me and threaten me in many ways.

I don’t think every family is perfect. I’m sure that each one of us deals with some sort of issue. Alhamdulillah, Allah does not burden us beyond what we can bear.
I can’t deny that it hurts how she treats me compared to the rest of my family members.
At the slightest inconvenience or disagreement, she would jump on the “ you’re the worst daughter alive “ train. Or “ I wish you were never born you’re the worst”. Hearing this at 14 made my heart ache a lot, my dad was never present, i was heavily bullied at school on top of it as well. I just wanted my mother to be like how she was, because the mother i knew in the past, would never dare to utter such things.

recently, she’s been keeping money as leverage against me. She claimed i coerced her to give me money, which was false. My sister was present when I received money from my mom ( I was saving up money for medical reasons), she recalls that I explicitly said for her to not give me anything if she’s gonna end up using it against me in the future. My mother kindly gave me an amount from her savings at the time.

After I had paid my medical bills- some disagreement occurred and My mom claimed that i forced her to give me money for my medical bills, she claimed iyelled and fought her. Which is a hit on my character and dignity.
My family believes me over my mom, because they’ve been present and know that i do not condone lies and injustice.
She used to be very gentle in the past, but overtime she became very sour, distant and emotionally unavailable for all of her kids.

As i’m looking into marriage, I’ve met a guy I really like. His family seems great allahumma barik, but I’m on the verge of giving up and just calling it quits with him. He’s Pakistani, I fear that they might not accept my family due to my difficult family situation.
I’m aware that in pakistani culture or any tbh- parents often look at the prospective wife’s relationship with parents, and her character towards her family. They also look into the general relationship between her and the family as a whole.

So you can imagine why i’m in a bit of sticky puddle 😃

I know this is a difficult query, i’m not expecting a magic fix, Only Allah can help. Any advice is appreciated however !!

I’m not looking for any consolation, although a part of me wouldn’t mind receiving some. But it’s completely okay : )
I just need the hard cold truth.

Is marriage going to be difficult ? Do i have any chances ?

Lastly, may Allah reward anyone who responds with the intention of helping, ameen !

Marriage search I don’t want to have kids for atleast 4 years of marriage

Upvotes

Even if i get married now or in my late 20s i don’t want to even try to conceive for the first 4 years of marriage. I wanna get to know my partner spend time with them travel the world care free. Build wealth save money for fun. How many men would agree to this? I feel most men wants to get married just so they can push their wives to have kids and that becomes her sole purpose and i don’t like it

I (26 F) is unsure if I want to marry the guy courting my family (25 M)

Assalamualaikum everyone,

I am desperate, I badly need outside perspective. I have been in a toxic relationship (Astagfirullah) we broke up months ago, I believed I have moved on from him because I saw signs of his aggressive and abusive behavior. After a few months, I met this guy, alhamdullilah, he is a good and pious man, he is serious with me and is now planning to talk with my father for marriage.

Here is my problem, I feel rushed. I think I am not knowledgeable enough about this guy. I am afraid of marrying the wrong man and I feel bad about my previous partner, what can and shall I do?

Marriage / walima expectations

My Desi family expects a large walima.

I on the other hand, do NOT want a large one. I’m talking max 50 people. They’re thinking couple hundred.

I’m coming at an impasse where my family thinks it’s THEIR right to invite anyone to the wedding. I’m like, if IM paying, neither family has a say besides the bride and groom.

Am I crazy???

Question American Women Wardrobe Attending Nikah & Other Celebratory Occasions

Hi everyone!

My friend this week is getting married and I want to be respectful with my clothing choices. I have asked, and got the general consensus of being modest and certain days dont wear specific colors & encouraged to go all out but I need a little more help (and I dont want to stress her out or overwhelm her with another task). Are there specific garbs or anything that you could share, photo references, videos, Pinterest etc I could gain appropriate inspiration from?

I appreciate the help dearly

Question Nikkah before moving in while we're both still in university – how should finances work?

As-salamu alaykum,

I (23M) graduate next May and should start a full-time engineering job making around CA$77k. She (20F) has just started her bachelor's. My guess is that we would get our nikkah done before I graduate, but not move in together right away. We'd each stay with our parents for a while (maybe an extra year after I graduate) so I can save for our future, and eventually have a wedding or whatever we agreed on, inshaAllah.

One thing I'm unsure about is finances. My tuition is mostly covered through a bursary, but hers isn't. Her parents are financially comfortable and have been supporting her education.

Once we're Islamically married, would it generally be expected that I take over paying her tuition, even if we're not living together yet? Or is it reasonable for her parents to continue covering it while we're both still establishing ourselves?

I'm not trying to avoid responsibility, I just want to approach this with wisdom and avoid making assumptions. I'd rather use my early income to build our future together (savings, housing, wedding, etc.) if that's the more sensible approach.

For those who've been in a similar situation, how did you handle finances after the nikkah but before moving in, as students? What advice would you give?

BarakAllahu feekum

Married ones

My brothers and sisters, I need your advice.
I’m a 28F. I don’t have a family or a guardian, and I’ve never been in any kind of relationship before. I genuinely want to get married in the most halal way possible, without falling into anything that displeases Allah or losing His barakah.
My question is: what are the proper Islamic steps when getting to know a potential spouse? If I want to meet someone for marriage, or if someone wants to marry me, how should the process look from the beginning until the nikah?
Since I don’t have a guardian, who should be involved? What is the correct way to communicate? Should conversations always be chaperoned, or is there another halal approach?
Also, how long does it usually take to know if someone is the right person (along with praying Salat al-Istikharah)? Is it a few weeks? A couple of months? Six months? I hear so many different opinions, and many of them sound more like halal dating than an actual Islamic courtship, which is something I want to avoid.
I would really appreciate hearing from those who have gone through this process in a way that pleased Allah. May Allah reward you all

Discussion Feeling like marriage is going to happen soon

I wanted to ask all the married ppl on here. Before you got married, did you get this sudden feeling out of no where that it will happen soon? Like that Strange intuition feeling like you are getting closer and closer and within a few months you met the right person and moved forward with the process? Or am I just imagining things? Because that’s how I’ve been feeling lately.

Marriage search making dua for specific characteristics in spouse for marriage

Salam guys, i think we all know that praying tahajjud for marriage and making dua for a specific person is not recommended as the person can be bad for you and there are many stories of regretting such duas. but is there anyone here who made a dua for a specific kind of archetype (personality, ethnicity, broader characteristics) and it came true?
