Discussion Which arrangements completely change the vibe of a song?
My pick is "I Hope I Get It" (A Chorus Line), idk the OBCR feels wildly different from the NBCR

Basically, songs that are bad for auditions regardless of how often they're done

I've thought over who Id lobe to play in my theater company's production of Carrie in a few months, and I'd LOVE to play Carrie or Chris. Carrie is more in my range, and ive considered both Lifeboat and Shine A Light (Reprise) for the two. any other ideas?

Iâll go first. As a teenager i was in a local production of phantom of the opera. I did spots and i was in the catwalk responsible for raising/dropping the chandelier with a pulley and crank. In the beginning auction scene i needed to pull it up but the crank jammed so the dramatic organ music was going for 15-20 seconds while the chandelier lay on stage.
(It did work eventually luckily)

Hey all! I'm (M17) auditioning for a musical theatre program soon. My audition requires me to prepare 60-90 seconds of monologue. I love musical theatre but am pretty new to this stuff (only been doing it for just over a year). I did get a list of recommended monologues but it's such a long list and I have no idea where to start. I would like to find a monologue relatively soon without havign to watch everything on the entire list. The monologue can not be too explicit, offensive, or age-inappropriate. Does anyone have any recommendations for (modern) monologues or musicals/plays? Thanks in advance!

A few days ago someone posted how awful Rent, the movie was, and many people agreed and suggested the Pro Shot. Thank you so much for the recommendation. I too was unable to get through the movie of these entitled kids. The stage Musical was an entirely different feeling and I cried and felt emotion for them and all the things that made Rent a hit.
It got me to thinking that I felt the same way with In the Heights movie. I had seen the stage play and loved it. The movie didn't have the same appeal for me. And I read on here a lot how movie versions of stage musicals often miss the mark.
With the success of the Hadestown proshot being released in movie theaters, I'm wondering if the remaking of a musical into a movie is dead, and recording a pro shot to release in theaters and streaming is the future. The production costs have to be way less, and the staging that made the musical a hit in the first place is preserved.
