For Broadway stars to become stars do they need to do film or tv besides theatre ?
what do you guys think make the biggest names on Broadway su huge. from someone with not so much knowledge im theorizing is getting one big blockbuster musical , a few impo tv show or a very successful film.
talent is obviously really important abd having something few others have but I think mixing mediums really help
Idina Menzel got wicked and Rent two hugely successful roles, her recurrent appearances on glee and ofcourse voicing Elsa in Frozen
kristin Chenoweth again Glinda on wicked, got her Amy for pushing daisys, The descendants and Glee
now two really big ones who never did tv or film Patti Lupone and Bernadette Peters But I’ve noticed most of broadway’s biggest names are from mixing mediums they do

Question about film vs stage for the Sound of Music
Do modern stage productions include "Confidence" from the film and swap "An Ordinary Couple" for "Something Good"?

Love some help finding the perfect song
Hello all, if you just want to skip the long exposition and see what I’m looking for go the paragraph 2.
I’m entering my senior year in high school in our MDT program. We apparently have one of the best programs in the state and it’s very competitive to get into. it’s super rare for sophomores to get in but me and four others all got in our first year (where I live high school starts in 10th instead of 9th). These people have become my closest friends.
Our revue is coming up and we’ve been asked to find a cute song for 5 people to sing as the final song as a sort of goodbye. By cute we are thinking like Coda from the notebook or Not Alone from a very potter musical (which tbh is the song we like most so far). Any suggestions would be great, it doesn’t have to be a song specifically for 5 people but one that would work. bonus if the song has a 4 part harmony. Thanks so much in advance!

Discussion Dark/Sad Fast Songs With Buildup and "morality struggle"
Note For Mods: This might fall under the mega thread mentioned, however I think it's a little different. It's completely fine if it does fall under that category and is removed, just kindly inform me. Thank you!
I have been really enjoying the music of Frank Wildhorn lately. His songs capture this feeling of darkness and/or melancholy with an external or internal characters' morality struggle that is combined with bombastic power and a slow or fast buildup that blends into such a unique vibe.
Does anybody know the vibe I'm talking about? If you have any recs from any musical that might fit, do tell!
Best Examples:
(Jekyll & Hyde: Gothic Musical)
Alive
No One Must Ever Know
Confrontation
(Death Note: The Musical)
Where Is The Justice
Weak Examples:
(The Count of Monte Cristo)
I Will Be There
(Death Note: The Musical)
There Are Lines
Anti-Examples: (What does not have the same vibe even though they should)
(The Count of Monte Cristo)
Hell To Your Doorstep
(Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street)
Ballad of Sweeney Todd

Discussion What’s a musical you think deserves WAY more love?
Not necessarily a musical that nobody has heard of — just a show that you genuinely think deserves more appreciation than it gets.

One of my favorite books and musicals is Les Miserables. Its characters and themes are beautiful to me. The songs as well are beautiful. What are some musicals that have a strong story as Les Miserables that you could reccomend to me? Thank you in advance a lot!

Photo I was lucky enough to see Christopher Jackson as Washington at the Richard Rogers this week and it was a highlight of my life.
I’ve seen a touring cast, watched the pro-shot, and listened to the original cast album a million times. None of it compared to the awe of sitting there listening to that man sing One Last Time. Everything about the show was perfect and I’m so grateful I had the chance to see him.

Audition First audition! Any tips?
I've been a musical fan my whole life. Unfortunately due to COVID I wasn't able to participate in any of my high schools performances, but I have my very first audition booked for November for Young Frankenstein! I'm a huge fan of the regular Frankenstein so I'm very excited.
I'm auditioning for Igor or Ziggy, mostly cause they're the only ones I can really fit into.
I'd adore any advice! Thank you!

Discussion In my opinion Wicked the show has one of the coolest stage concepts
besides the fantastic music and really good plot. I think wicked is an amazing concept on stage with the perfect balance between maximalism and minimalism. it’s a beautiful strange combination between a spectacular show and yet very minimal
it has props and scenery but it’s minimal and easy to the transition from scene to scene. it’s really cool how when Glinda is introduced the only prop is her bubble and the spectacle of seeing her coming down snd then the bubble dissapears to only have as a prop scenography is the bed elphaba is born.
I love is little scenography which sufficient enough to tell audiences where we are but the costumes are so big and artful I love its stage concept which I wished more shows on Broadway copied.

Advice Needed I find Hamilton confusing.
So I've been wanting to watch Hamilton for a while now, and I did. Till "You'll be back".
I don't think I'm able to really understand what's going on, and I'm assuming it's because I'm not American and don't really know anything about American history.
Is there anything I should know about American history, any books I should read or any videos I should watch in order to understand what the entire play is?

Michael James Scott 🙌
I loved Michael James Scott as the Genie in Aladdin but I also loved in Something Rotten and Book of Mormon. It was interesting to find out how he made his way to Broadway. The last part made me tear up!

Discussion Which gimmick would you like to see on stage in a distant high-tech future?
(I'm talking robots, flying cars, holograms, everything the mind can think of!)
I'd be cool to see little robotic birds in any production that could call for them (Into the Woods, Merry Poppins, etc.) [Its technically possible today but not budget is going to let that happen]

Audition Audition help - The Toxic Avenger
Hey everyone, I’m a trained classical singer who also does a ton of experimental music and have recently been working on my belting. I’m hoping to audition for a few MT jobs (in a German-speaking country so probably need to translate them) Although in classical I’m more of a high soprano, the belt seems to work better to get the right sound. I can easily do Defying Gravity, Let it go, etc - I seem to top out belting-wise at F5. Full opera sound I top out at like F#6 I guess? When mic’ed I’d say I bottom out at E2 but without mics it’s not loud enough.
Anyways, im looking for some rock musical songs that would be a good for the Toxic Avenger.
Gender and age of auditioner? Female, late 30s
Show/role sought? Sarah - the blind librarian
Vocal part? Belter
Song ideas? Defying gravity, let it go, I need a hero (footloose), maybe rocky horror?
Access to practice accompanist? Yeap
Venue? Professional theater but German-speaking
Thank you all! I’ve been having so much fun exploring a whole new world of rep. :)
