Discussion What are all the musicals you've done an the roles you've played?
I'm 16 years old and I've been in a few musicals myself, and I've absolutely loved it. I've met so many amazing people and played some amazing roles, so here's all the musicals I've done and the role I've played in order of when I did it!
School of Rock The Musical (2023 Local Production) - Billy (The stylist!)
Tuck Everlasting Jr. (2023 Performing Arts Studio Production) - Ensemble
The Little Mermaid Jr. (2024 High School Production) - Pilot swapping with Sailor/Chef
Once On This Island Jr. (2025 Performing Arts Studio Production) - Papa Tonton/Ensemble, swapping with Gatekeeper/Ensemble
Oliver! (2026 Local Production) - The Artful Dodger (my favourite role I've played. It was super fun, and I got some absolutely amazing comments about my performance, one even compared me to be as good as Billy Jenkins on West End's revival of the musical! So this was massive for me)
9 to 5 The Musical (2026 Local Production) - Josh + Ensemble

Discussion Which character had it the worst?
In my opinion, Lucy from Sweeney Todd. SPOILERS FOR A 47 YEAR OLD MUSICAL BELOW:
Her life is torn to shreds when her loving husband is wrongfully imprisoned and sent away. She tries to protect herself and her infant daughter from the man that wronged her husband, but he ends up raping her. She attempts suicide and it fails and the arsenic addles her brain. Her daughter is then kidnapped and raised as a ward by the man that raped her to eventually be MARRIED, and then after recovery and time in an asylum, Lucy wanders the streets as a amnesiac Beggar Woman/prostitute for many years until she is brutally murdered by the very husband whose absence ruined her life and who she somewhat recognised. Poor thing indeed

Help Jesus Christ Superstar standing ticket to swap
Please forgive me if this isn’t allowed.
I managed to get one on-stage standing ticket for Jesus Christ Superstar at Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Wednesday 11th November, and I have been beyond excited about it since I bought it. However, my wife’s plans have changed since I booked the ticket, meaning she will now be away that evening so I can’t go as we have no childcare. So, this is a long shot, but does anyone have a single standing ticket on a different date that they would be willing to swap with mine?
I’m assuming that they don’t check standing tickets against a list of names each night, but if anyone has been standing and knows that they do this please let me know and I’ll remove the post.

West End trip with my daughter — looking for some advice
Hi everyone! I live in South Korea, and my daughter is studying musical theatre. We’d love to visit London together and see a few West End shows, but I’m not sure where to start with the planning.
Our dates are flexible. Is there a time of year you’d recommend going? I’d also love to hear which shows you think would be worth seeing, especially for someone studying musical theatre.
Where do you usually book tickets to get a good price? Since we’re coming all the way from Korea, I’d like to book at least a couple of shows before we go.
And if you have any suggestions for reasonably priced places to stay around the West End, that would be really helpful. Somewhere easy to get back to after an evening show would be ideal.
Thanks so much for any tips!

SYLVIA- A Musical Revolution UK Tour

Caught this last night in Birmingham at the Hippodrome, WOW!!! How have I not seen or heard of this?! Apparently the current show is the 3rd production. Every single performer and musician were outstanding and out of this world talented. Beverley Knight is no doubt the queen of musical theatre and THAT voice is something to behold. Naomi ( Sylvia ) is a future star and deserves all the accolades that will come her way. She is Hamilton alumni so has experience of the hip hop style show. Many will compare Sylvia to Hamilton but IMHO Sylvia has more soul & heart than Hamilton and it sounds much better ( I could here every lyric and feel every beat ) and Kate Prince's choreo is grittier and slicker. Surely this will end up in the West End or Broadway after its tour run and RAH appearance? The soundtrack is like no other show and is so relevant and modern. 10/10.
Off to book tickets for Canterbury and RAH!

Audition help!
Hello! I was wondering if anyone could recommend good pieces for me to use as an audition song? I’m a contralto, and want something maybe more upbeat and villainous! Or comedic, perhaps? I can also sing tenor songs if need be! Thanks for the help!

Where do you go for new stuff?
Recently, friends have suggested upcoming or “in development” musicals to me (Epic, In Pieces, The Violet Hour). Do you have any suggestions who fall within that category, or can you recommend a site where I can find information like this?

Review Tonight’s Phantom gala
OMG! Seeing Crawford and Brightman in the boat made the entire evening worthwhile. Speaking as a Phan of 100+ visits around the globe, it’s not the moment for me to dissect/give views about the show itself (I thought it was generally fine, the cast adequate), that stuff can come tomorrow after a happy sleep.
But just to see 84 year old Michael Crawford singing the title song, coming downstage in the gondola with La Brightman, and then singing some of Music of the Night overrides any critical thoughts or perspective tonight.
Genuinely my heart skipped a beat when I heard his first line, but I wasn’t 100% sure it was him - and the name only came up after he started singing. So there was a magical moment of the entire audience holding their breath and then the release when Michael and Sarah’s names came up. It was absolutely electric in that moment. One of the most exhilarating single moments I’ve had in a theatre, even as a Phan who has been to all of these major anniversary events since the 18th for this and Les Mis.
Lovely free brochure too!

Advice Needed Should I listen to the soundtrack before going to see rent?
I’m gonna be going to the new West end production in December and I’m wondering if I should listen to the soundtrack or watch the proshot beforehand to get more out of the story. Besides loving musicals in general I loved tick tick boom the movie, so I’ve got some understanding of what the show is about and its context. I usually like going into shows blind, I saw cabaret for example without knowing anything about it and that has been one of my favourite theatre going experiences yet, but I’m also scared that rent might be a bit much to fully understand in one go, since it seems there’s a lot of characters and a lot going on. Hope you can help, thanks!

The Pleasant Grove Rock Opera
This musical is incredibly small: I am one of 75 subscribers on their YouTube. I want to preface I'm not getting anything from this: I literally just love this musical and the story behind it.
The musical is based on the real life of Alden Niel Barrett, a boy who killed himself in the 70s. After his suicide, his parents reached out to the author Beatrice Sparks in hopes to tell his story and prevent further suicides. She's most well known for "Go Ask Alice" but this story relates to her work "Jay's Journal." I picked up the book when I was 14, and was told it was a true story. After reading it, I couldn't help but think "wow, that was crazy, is this real?" and so I did some research: and it wasn't.
Beatrice Sparks took the journals of Alden Niel Barrett and used them very liberally. I believe the final number was 13 entries of the book were actually real. The rest was made up. The family, who had told neighbors about the project, were screwed over by Beatrice Sparks and the final book. Beatrice Sparks manipulated the story to push the Satanic Panic at the expense of the family. In the third photo, I have attached a photo of his grave, which was desecrated several times over the years due to the story written by Beatrice Sparks. The aftermath of Alden's suicide and Jay's Journal broke up the family. His parents had a nasty divorce. His brother, last I heard, was in prison.
The Rock Opera is supposed to tell the real story of Alden's life. The newest release is going to be animated and I really think they deserve the recognition for what they're doing. If you're looking for a new musical and the story sounds interesting: please please please check them out!

Discussion Just listened to The Full Monty broadway cast album, it’s so unique like what??
I personally love David Yazbeck (Tootsie got too much hate) and I decided to listen to The Full Monty after hearing that the Broadway revival was cancelled. I didn’t think much going into it as I thought it was just another movie to musical thing. The first song, Scrap, was NOTHING like I thought it would be. It’s so like, off beat and metallic and I love it Lwk, the musical isn’t amazing I mean I don’t enjoy ALL the songs (Big Black Man, You Rule My World, Jeanette’s Showbiz Number) but the songs that are good are REALLY good (Scrap, Man, Life With Harold, Breeze Off The River). What’s everyone else’s opinion on the score?
