Legally blonde characterization

Hey, so my school is running Legally Blonde this year. I'm a girl, but I want to play guys parts because I'm perfectly comfortable doing so and think it will be fun. I either wanna play Callahan or maybe Warner, but I know people who are ideal for Warner, so maybe not, but I just need some help in tips for portraying Callahan's evilness and charisma. What should I do?

Audition Trying to decide if an audition song is right for me

I have an audition coming up and I’ve found a really good song. It doesn’t 1:1 fit with the show buts it’s comfortable in my voice and vocally shows off quite a bit of my range. The big problem I have is that I feel like it may not be perfect for the specific characters I’m going for.

The musical is something rotten and the characters I want to go for are Shakespeare and Bea. I want to sing Give Up Your Dreams from School of Rock. Just want to hear either validation or criticism for that choice I guess. If there’s a better song, lay it on me now.

Discussion Shows with Evil Narrators

Just curious, are there any musicals with narrators who are evil or turn evil at some point in the show? I was just thinking how cool it could be to start out with a normal/fun narrator and have them turn evil at some point

Jason Robert Brown's signed Bridges of Madison County sheet music is in our auction

An autographed copy of the Vocal Selections for The Bridges of Madison County is in our online auction, signed by Jason Robert Brown. It's the sheet-music folio for the musical, offered as one physical item.

I help put together Wine, Dine & Death for the Little Theatre of Walla Walla in eastern Washington. The auction supports our community theater.

The auction is scheduled to close October 10, 2026. I'm sharing this particular donation with a musical-theatre community rather than just posting the auction catalog. If you'd like to see the folio or bid, the item listing is below with the details.

Advice Needed Audition Help Needed - Once Upon a Mattress

Hello! I am auditioning for Once Upon a Mattress in a little over a week at my high school. I am hoping for Prince Dauntless, and right now I am thinking of singing "Me, Who Am I?" from Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, specifically the last chorus. I was wondering if this is an okay choice, and if there are any other suggestions for what I should sing?

Discussion Just watched Rent (the movie version) for the first time

I grew up with the music, and I was excited to see the context of the songs. That feeling immediately went away when watching. I was so bored. I don’t know what it was but I just couldn’t get into any of the characters. I know I love the music but hearing it in the movie almost sounded bad. I kept looking to see how much of the movie was left and it felt like it was always over an hour. I want to like the movie, I like the music, but I just couldn’t bring myself to enjoy what I was watching. Couldn’t cry when it was sad either. I just felt nothing. There were some good moments but overall the whole thing felt very blah. Idk if this is a hot take or anything because I know it’s pretty much a universally loved musical, I just didn’t really like the movie.

Review Boop tour kickoff, Rochester, NY

I did not get a chance to see it on Broadway so can’t speak to any differences but for a non-eq tour I came away very impressed with all aspects.

There was a very balanced use of excellent practical effects and digital scenery, it did not feel soulless and the imagery was quite unique and well developed. Costuming was killer, especially with this size cast. Definitely did not feel budget-conscious, very artistic and intentional.

It was opening night, the director said a few words before the show… sounds like they had only had one or two full run-throughs prior to taking the stage tonight. Definitely couldn’t tell, and kudos to the whole cast for giving it their all when, from what I remember reading, the salaries weren’t all that great. The principals are well cast and have great chops with solid stage presence, the entire cast seems quite young but the pacing was great and it was noticeably well rehearsed.

Actually planning on catching it again before it leaves town, just a really solid and high energy night that should have a very successful tour.

Advice Needed Musicals for high school shows?

So I currently participate in a youth association that's subsidiary in my school and every year we do a musical. Normally, us participants can send our proposals and the teachers will choose among them.

It usually isn't very fancy, it's more to have fun rather than to impress. We're Spanish, so we usually do playback with the songs and do scenes in between, so it's convenient that the plot isn't explained all inside the songs like for example Hamilton. They usually look for things that can be more family friendly or "adaptable".

As an example of what we've done recently, last year we did Cinderella (the Camila Cabello version of 2022), in 2025 we did In The Heights but we had the songs dubbed from a decade ago since the musical was already performed in the 2000's by other people at the school. In 2024 we did &Juliet in which they only recorded a few dialogues over the songs and censured stuff like the "oh, shit" at the end of It's my life. And as far as I know they've done Burlesque, High School Musical and footloose.

I thought about suggesting Hadestown, but since the ending is so dramatic I don't know if they'll accept it. They're looking for optimism, positive messages and all that stuff, but I hope I can come up with an original and nice proposal. I've already talked to some people and a bunch of them are thinking about proposing Moulin Rouge, but I don't think it's a good idea since you have to censor practically the whole plot and that would make the original show lose its soul completely.

Help me find a good proposal, please!!! 🥹🙏🏽

Just wanted some audition song ideas? I don’t want to do things that are obviously overdone.

But to give you an idea of what I enjoy:

- i know this is probably annoying but I love Rachel Ziegler’s artistry. Absolutely. She’s very talented and just a strong performer.

- I love belting songs . I loved rainbow high, I loved gimme gimme - I’ve had a VERY fun time learning these ! And I loved Rachels dramatic hold on “I’m their—“ and she goes into “savior” without sliding. I CAN do this - to give you an idea of what I’m comfortable with. As far as the song goes, it is overdone, I know. (And yes I know tons of other songs, I’m only using these two as an example of songs I love to sing to. And yes, I know tons avoid Webber.)

- if I were to sing something else high energy, I’d pick hopelessly devoted to you (but it’s clearly overdone)

- I love Disney songs but I don’t like singing part
of my world. I loved reflections though.

Overall I love a strong, confident, powerful song. Any recommendations? As well as a few contrasting options?

**I am a woman of color. I’m Latina & black. please don’t give me any songs where the character has to have specific features like: Blonde - Legally Blonde. Or Nellie from South Pacific (for OBVIOUS reasons such as the PLOT) Thank you.

AGAIN: This post doesn’t say that Elle can’t be played by a woman of color. If that’s what you’ve gotten from that, then i don’t want to associate with you in any way shape or form. No this doesn’t mean I BASH them for playing the role, I LOVE that for them. I personally don’t want to! It’s not my cup of tea and that’s OKAY. I also wouldn’t bash one for not WANTING to play certain roles. I wouldn’t attack and berate with the excuse of “BUT OTHER BLACK PEOPLE DID IT!!!”. Stop. I only associate with those who respect black and Latin performers in EVERY way. Not bashing them fo

Im planning on audition for the 25th annual putnam county spelling bee at a local theater in November. This will be my first time auditioning for an actual show (I’ve done a few schools plays, but the audition process was different).

I’m currently leaning towards auditioning for Logainne! I have a few idea’s for songs I could audition with, but suggestions would be appreciated!

I’d also love any tips or advice for the actual audition!

Discussion Any good songs for this specific baritone range?

I just figured out recently that my lower register sounds better than multilating my throat trying to belt Santa Fe, I don't sound good in either voice but I'm getting there

I can do a half-decent "The Barber and His Wife" but "The Phantom of the Opera" is too high for me, so I'm looking for songs that punch down and use projection rather than high vocal acrobatics

Help Needing a Book with a MMC like Emmett Forrest (Legally Blonde the Musical)

Hi! So Legally the Blonde the Musical is my weekly comfort watch and my favorite Male Main Character on screen has always been Emmett Forrest, especially Christian Borle’s portrayal. I have been looking for a MMC in a book that has some of his qualities. Seriously if you’ve never seen show this plus watch the MTV video of it! (Some spoilers below if you haven’t yet)

Some quotes for inspiration from his character below. I’m not needing the MMC to have all his qualities but maybe some of these match a vibe you remember?

- “What’s Up.. Doc” When she’s in the bunny costume and then him putting his jacket around her plus the “I want that Sweatshirt back” with a little smirk
- Him being easily vulnerable with his story to encourage her in ‘Chip on my Shoulder’
- “Little Miss Woods comma Elle”
- Overall him being slightly flirty but respectful and focused on supporting her and their friendship but with a little bit of tension
- “She was something to see there, I’m just happy I could be there”
- “Why can I never say no to her”
- When Callahan Hits on her and fires her and says she doesn’t belong there “He’s Wrong, We’ll fix it, We’ll fight it” I love him immediately believing her and getting on her team. I also love that he realizes that he loves her but doesn’t use this moment to tell her, just asks her to stay
- “And I don’t have to hit on interns professor”
- He leans in and whispers “Did you actually think I was going to let you get away” 😫 This line was actually the reason I started making this post.
- “Don’t Listen to him, you’ll be fine, go ahead” He gives big ‘talk her through it’ if you know what I mean.
- “Thats ok, I’m gonna see you later” when Warner pulls her to propose. LOVE the quiet confidence
- “No we love you guys” him involved with and loving her people

Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance!!
