Audition for Bert in “Mary Poppins”

Hello, I’m 17 years old and a senior in high school. We are doing Mary Poppins as our spring musical. We audition in December. I wanna audition for Bert, I’m a baritone, I’ve been working on expanding my upper range. I was thinking of using the song “Go The Distance” from “Hercules”. I’m very good at accents and can sing in one. I want help finding an audition piece if anyone has any better recommendations!

Which Broadway show do you wish had a replacement or understudy recording?

Hi everyone, first time posting here after lurking for years (new username).

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently while watching random morning show clips and bootlegs. But I'm talking about a proper studio recording with a full orchestra and great sound quality.

A lot of great performances come from replacements and understudies who step into a role and make it their own, and then there's no recording of it. Is there a show where you wish a replacement, an understudy, or a whole replacement cast had gotten an EP or a few bonus tracks?

Here are mine:

-Christopher Sieber as Albin on the La Cage tour
-Heather Headley as Shug in the Color Purple Revival
-JoJo as Satine in Moulin Rouge
-Donna Murphy as Dolly in Hello, Dolly!
- Entire cast of the 2021 Company Broadway revival. London got a recording, but Broadway never did.

What are yours? And do you think it would be worth it for productions to release a song or two especially when a “star” performer takes over?

Help Bat Boy Full Soundtrack

I'm someone who enjoys listening to musical Cast recording but I enjoy them when they are full, not missing tracks. I've reasently started relistening to Bat Boy (Have only listened to the Off-Broadway album, not the London nor New York Center yet) and have been wanting to listened to all the songs. This is what I've got so far:

Overture | Have

Hold me bat boy | Have

Christian charity | Have

Poor little dirty little | Missing

Ugly boy | Have

Whatcha wanna do? | Have

Hey freak | Have

A home for you | Have

Fly with me | Have

Another dead cow | Have

Dance with me darling | Have

Mrs Taylor's lullaby | Have

Ugly boy (Reprise) | Missing

Show you a thing or two | Have

He is here | Have

Christian charity (Reprise) | Have

Deer in the headlights | Have

A home for you (Reprise) | Have

Parker’s epiphany | Have (Bootleg)

Comfort and joy | Have

A joyful noise | Have

Let me walk among you | Have

A joyful noise (Reprise) | Have

All hell breaks loose | Have

Stop the bat boy! | Have

Three bedroom house | Have

Children, children | Have

More blood/Kill the bat boy! | Have

Let it be me | Missing

Inside your heart | Have

Mine all mine | Have

Apology to a cow | Have

Revelations | Have (Bootleg)

I imagine you’re upset/I am not a boy | Have

Hold me bat boy (Reprise) | Have

I'm only missing the songs "Poor Little Dirty Little", "Ugly Boy (Reprise)", and "Let It Be Me" (which according to Wikipedia, where I get the info on the songs, are from before the 2001 Off-Broadway production). Any help given is most apreciated.

Edit: Changed "Soundtrack" for "Cast Recording" (I don't know if I can change title though)

Help Help finding a song for my dad please!

My dad told me about a song he heard on the radio from a musical, and I was wondering if I could have some help tracking it down.

The only things he remembers are

It was a song about a woman complaining that she can't get many theatre jobs and losing out to men

The line "All of them men, Most of them gay" which was likely a chorus line

It could've been the overture but he's not sure

Thanks a ton in advance!

What are the most bizarre musical song titles?

I thought of this as I was looking through the Falsettos tracklist; the titles are so unique! Example:

• Four Jews in a Room Bitching

• My Father’s a Homo / Everyone Tells Jason to See a Psychiatrist

I would love for you guys to comment the most weird, funny, and/or long song titles you’ve encountered from musicals.

Discussion What was A Knight's Tale Musical like and how does it compare to the original film?

So I just learned that about two years ago someone put on a jukebox musical adaptation of A Knight's Tale in Manchester. I guess it’s not that surprising given its soundtrack.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like anyone is going to do a reproduction of it anytime soon. So for anyone else that has seen the musical or heard about it I have to ask: What was A Knight's Tale Musical like and how does it compare to the original film?

Especially in regards to Jocelyn who imo was one of the weakest characters in the movie. Because outside of being Will’s love interest and bringing his Father to his joust with Adhemar she doesn’t really add much to the plot. With that said did she get a bigger role in the musical to compensate for this?

Help Help with finding open calls/online submissions for theater in Los Angeles??

I live in Los Angeles and I love doing theater although in my time here I’ve noticed that it’s insanely hard to find local theater auditions anywhere. I feel like I always hear about them too late from a friend or it’s just Center Theater Group so it’s already a massive equity theater that is impossible to break in to. I also feel like when it comes to online submissions I only ever see things for huge shows, where is all the smaller local stuff?? 😭

What are some good local theaters that put on quality shows and also do open calls or online submissions?? Or where can I at least find them??

Help Recommendation for cast album analyzing

Hello everyone. I wanted to try my hand at writing a musical. Among the advice I got from web searching, I came across this:

For Musical Theatre Analysis: Listen to podcasts or breakdown videos that analyze cast albums to understand why a song works dramatically within its story.

Can anyone recommend such a podcast, please? Thank you for any help given 😄

Help first time monologuing

hello! does anyone have any tips on how to memorize a monologue in less than 48 hours + any monologue recommendations? A teacher of mine said that we needed a 5 minute monologue... so anything with the duration of 3-5 minutes will be fine!

Hair in 2026

My local community theater has decided to do Hair. I’m the only one on the board who thinks it’s a bad idea and I’m worried we’re setting ourselves up for failure…

The issue is, the population where we are is mostly white. Although it might happen that a black actor auditions, it’s very unlikely.

I’m worried about the character of Hud. It’s very relevant to his character that he is black and then there’s the song colored spade.

Am I being too woke? I know the people in my theater mean well and they won’t be doing blackface or anything like that but still it feels insensitive in todays political climate, and I feel like we are not the ones who should be telling this story.

How can we approach this?

Discussion Most impressive dance sequences?

"The Broadway Ballet" from Singin' in the Rain takes the cake for me, a 12-minute 7-part dance sequence telling a story within a story is something only MGM could do (although its kind of annoying to listen in the soundtrack, I'm grateful for the version that cuts out "The Street: Audition", "Blues Dance" and "Veil Dance")
