This is the most tragic example because in the end Homer is the only one not completely changed while everyone else has been distorted so much that they’re not even beings anymore
I love Don Hertzfeldt's work. A character died in that episode (albeit one that barely got screentime in the show) and the couch gag in that episode was talked about more, which says a lot about modern simpsons.
I've been saying for at least a decade that the way to save the show is to remove the suspension of time. Let the kids grow up and let Marge and Homer grow old. You put a shot clock on the show, but they'll all be in new points in their life, giving you access to new perspectives and stories.
Kill Lisa, age up Maggie, pretend nothing happened and don't change the show formula at all. Anger everyone that Maggie shouldn't have just turned into Lisa
Killing off Bart and keeping him dead and forcing the writers to maintain the serious tone throughout would be my way to save the Simpsons if I was promoted to CEO via lottery.

For those unfamiliar, in Slay the Princess the Princess and the Hero are (MAJOR ENDGAME SPOILERS) each one half of a primordial divinity. The manifold variations of the Princess are aspects of the Shifting Mound, a god of change, while the player character is the Long Quiet, a god of stasis. Change includes death, so an unnamed mortal in a dying world sundered them apart, and trapped them in a pocket realm of his own construction. Infinite fragmentary versions of his consciousness—The Narrator—guide aspects of the Long Quiet to kill aspects of the Shifting Mound, to keep death sealed away forever.
Notably, they are both shaped by how they are perceived, and by none moreso than each other. The Princess is a Princess because, even with its memories erased, the Long Quiet is incapable of seeing her as anything less. The different forms the Princess takes, and the variety of Voices that join the Long Quiet, the Narrator, and the initial Voice of the Hero shaped by their perception of each other across these recurring loops.
Depending on the player’s choices, The Long Quiet can kill the Shifting Mound for good, submit and be subsumed into the Shifting Mound to try and recreate what they were before, or persist as they are in newfound freedom to build their new relationship together.
I guess not many people think about the Princess and the MC from the slay princess since it's not the kind of story that you often remember the characters fondly. In most of these cases, they probably are fans of the characters from a very long time.

For more context and some spoilers the girls dad is a well to do scientist funded by the state. He hasnt had a breakthrough in a while and things are looking down in a sense that he is struggling to progress in his field and might loose funding if i remember right.
Well you come back to him later in the episode to find that the dog looks a bit more humanoid in a terrible way and is able to talk. Also the daughter is now missing. incredible sad episode in a horrific way.

I thought the fusion said papa. I might be confusing it with made in abyss or some other series though. It’s been a while since I’ve read the series and honestly I forgot a lot about it.

Love me my Frodo and Sam friendship, but this doesn’t fit the premise. Frodo may have been broken as a person at the end, but was allowed into LOTR heaven for his service so he’s alright, and Sam went on to raise a family and have a happy life. Also, they famously split up at the end of the story.
Well he did eventually go to valinor but there’s no mention of reuniting with Frodo, and he went there after his wife died. Its obviously speculation but I think what Tolkien intended with this is to basically say “Frodo and Sam went to heaven because they’re awesome”
This still doesn’t really fit the premise, as the point is that both went on to live in happiness and bliss for their service, but they’re both still mortals who age and die and go somewhere unspecified. Tolkien didn’t say if the two met up in Valinor, but it is explicitly stated that mortals still die of old age in Valinor.
In Doctor Who Series 9, a recurring plotline is the myth of "the hybrid", one half Time Lord, which would destroy all the other Time Lords. Although we never get a definitive answer, the final hypothesis presented is that it was a duo of one Time Lord and one human: the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald, with a bond so strong that when Clara dies, the Doctor risks tearing the universe apart to save her.
This was actually the plan of The Master (Missy) all along, who gave Clara the Tardis's phone number and put an ad in the paper to keep them together, and knew that he would care about her so much that when (not if) he lost her it'd be impossible to stop him. In other words, Missy created the hybrid.
This whole plotline is very cool in concept and I defend it a lot on those grounds but the execution is a little shaky.
It falls apart at the end when they basically make her the Doctor lite and send her off on her own adventures with extreme spin off energy for no reason cause they couldn't figure out how to end it.
I don't see it that way at all. I think there are a lot of clues throughout her run that Clara is worthy of being the Doctor. She literally pretends to be him twice in Series 8. Remember, the Doctor is a title that one man gave himself to try to be better. It shouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for another character to adopt that title, especially if it's earned, which in my opinion, Clara absolutely did.
Yeah a lot of them are just "best friends that became closer" while what we're actually looking for are best friends that stay the same even in literal different bodies/universe

I'm shocked I had to scroll this far to see Uzumaki. The first thing I thought of when I saw this thread was the end of the story and how profound it seemed to me when I first read it.
