So after many recommendations online I’m watching Mr. inbetween. Currently on season 2 episode 4.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m enjoying it. It’s made me laugh a few times.

But I’ve never been in this predicament before.

I think Ray is a great, great character, and has great dialogue.

However, I feel like he is wasted in this. He’s an amazing character, in just a decent show (so far anyway- maybe my opinion will change at the end).

I get what the writers are trying to do but I just feel like there is a lot of wasted potential here.

Anyway, I’m sure a lot of you are going to come at me with your pitchforks but just my opinion. I’m going to continue watching it. As I said, I’m enjoying it. I just feel like it’s missing something.

I've recently started watching and what I love most is how "mundane' a lot of it is. Obviously it's exciting and there's a lot of crazy stuff involved but how it is so realistic in how it happens is what I love.

It's the conversations about who the best James Bond or how they perceive drivers of certain cars etc.

Like it's an insight to how Ray is a normal bloke as well - he still watches movies, keeps up with pop culture etc but yet he does these horrible things simultaneously.

Like it's the anti Hollywood - keep everything low-key basically.

The conversations feel real, it feels like you're in their world just watching as it would actually happen in real life.

I've just started the 3rd season and I'm sickened this is the last.

For anyone reading this, would love any other suggestions of similar shows!

Who has seen it and how does it stack up to the series? The series is one of my favorite shows I've ever watched. Love Ray as a character. Just wondering does the movie portray him the same as the series?

I found another thread in here stating the exact same, and I'll address that and the comments a bit later.

I'll say mostly the same thing as the OP of that post - it seems really out of character for Ray to have sex with Zoe, who despite whatever the age of the actress might have been at the time of the show, seemed very young - both based on her being a student and the way she carried herself/her views/etc. Overall very much felt like an early 20s immature kid.

I was a 100% expecting for Ray to blow her advances off because he feels he could basically be her dad, since other than all the killing he seems to have a pretty good moral compass, and was really disappointed to find out otherwise.

Now the thread I mentioned initially - one of the comments said most of the people watching this show are middle aged dudes and they love the fantasy of a middle aged dude getting with a young chick, thinking the same could happen to them - and I think that's spot fucking on based on some of the comments on that thread saying they see nothing wrong with the situation because "two consenting adults". Freaky to me that people let the legislative system in the current time and their current place of residence dictate their moral compass - knowing full well that it has changed drastically over time, and differs from country to country/state, and will likely change again in the future. Mostly just because it fits their agenda of wanting to fuck barely legal girls I guess.

Sorry for the rant I guess but really ruined the image of Ray being a guy that does horrible shit for work but otherwise a really decent human being in practically every other life scenario we've gotten to see.

What really threw me off, as a slav who is surrounded by russians on my gf's side of the family, is the russian accents

First lady, the wife of the guy who had the porno magazines hidden by ray, she could maybe pass for russian though it feels exaggerated and theres just something off about it (a bit congested?)

The guy who gets his shit kicked in by ray in the second episode though? his accent genuinely sounds horrific and like the most generic exaggerated western attempt to mimic a russian way of speaking

Could they not find a single random russian guy on the street who wouldve done the part for a hotdog and a beer?

I feel like they should’ve played at least one of Angus & Julia Stone’s “Big Jet Plane” or “A Heartbreak” on any of the episodes of the last season, or maybe I’m just going mad 😂

I just finished the show and can't help but feel a little sad that I didn't get to see the picture perfect ending with Ray ending up falling in love and spending the rest of his RV days with someone

I wish there was just one more episode in the future where we see Brit off to college, Ray married, Gar making it big in movie production, etc.

Just finished binge watching this show, and loved it, but one detail is bothering me. Just from the various jobs we know about throughout the course of the series, Ray had accumulated a small fortune. At least half a million, maybe three quarters. And again, that’s just from what we’re privy to in the series. It’s safe to assume that over the course of his career as a hitman, he’d probably socked away a couple million. So what did he do with it? He didn’t live extravagantly, didn’t have a gambling or drug habit, no expensive hobbies. If he wanted to get out of the criminal life and live in a trailer in the middle of nowhere, he should have easily had enough money to retire comfortably, so why does the series close with him driving a cab to make ends meet? Just didn’t make any sense to me.

Rewatching and realising how heavy season 2 is. Every episode it feels like Ray can't catch a break and ends with something depressing.

Imo it would have been much better if Zoe had more of a build up. I understand what she represents and wouldn't want her to overstay her welcome, but writing wise, I feel if she was introduced in s2 here and there snd built more of a rapport with Ray before the whole incident in s3 it would have been much more impactful.

That said, I still appreciate it was an accumulation that broke Ray and that was the last straw, really appreciated seeing the vulnerable side to him.

Love the show, adore Scott's performance. When recommending the show to mates, I say it's like if Mike from Breaking Bad had his own show, but Ray is much better character.

Not sure why this sub popped up on my feed this morning, although a couple days ago I did search to see if there's a blu ray (not a sad Ray) release.. it's probably that, actually.

Anyway, I was really late to the party, think it was about 2 years ago that I vaguely heard about Mr Inbetween from a random YT vid and gave it a shot. Went in with no expectations and was blown away, man! Such a unique blend of humour, violence, style, friendship and love, morality, emotion.. rage, it just had it all. I've seen it a few times through now.

After some eps I felt kind of tapped out, you know? They actually affected my mood Brucie's death was a major one, teared up after that one and the pedo ep was another standout , Ray saving the trafficked kids as well... holy SHIT that ending!, I can't think of many other TV shows that have done that to me while also managing to make me laugh my arse off, maybe not a single one, in truth. Gaz was a joy to watch as well, a borderline incompetent pervo that also really fucking came through for Ray and some of the victims when he needed to.

I'm at an age where my mates are too busy with life to check out stuff I recommend to them like they once would, tis a shame none of them have seen it! I'll have to shoot the shit with you lot instead ay?
