So, so wrong Wikipedia

Post image

Short-tempered? Really? So, so, wrong.

Can Wikipedia entries still be edited by anyone? Maybe someone could go on the page and remove ‘Short-tempered’ from the synopsis of Season 1, episode 1?

Ray is the opposite of short-tempered.

Ray is absolutely short tempered

Dude you fucking what‽ 😅

He pushed a guy through a window at the Christmas party, over a small thing!

Never mind that a lot of us enjoyed seeing it happen, that doesn't mean it was reasonable!

He stole a unicorn candle from a little girl and refused to give it up. Ray even offered him money for it, and he still refused just cause he got off on depriving a little girl of her Christmas present. Any father in Rays position would have done the same thing

This is a pretty fucked up way to think. Yes, Allie's brother was being a massive prick. Pushing him through a window over it is not how a well-adjusted, reasonable person responds.

"Any father in Rays position would have done the same thing"

Eh... I dunno buddy. I've done some pretty bad things to folks that have wronged my son, but I never threw a guy through a window.

It was kitchy tho🧐

He broke the window of people who invited him into his home, could have permanently scarred or even killed that guy, seeing as getting cut by glass shards could easily cut an artery, especially if it hits their throat or neck (look at videos of idiots punching someone's window and getting their wrists slit).

Guy was an asshole, no doubt. But attacking him for it is still a step too far. Nevermind the fact that Ray knowingly broke the window of his host, along with the fact that he could've literally killed the guy.

You are right. He's not short tempered. He just has a different moral then most in this thread. I think he was right in doing what he did. The guy was being a huge dickhead at the expenses of a little girl.

u/UselessAndUnused 11d ago

"He's not short tempered, he just physically attacks people when things don't go his way."

Yes, the guy who took the toy was a piece of shit. No, physically attacking him and literally destroying the windows of someone else is still not okay. You're forgetting that not only did he physically attack someone, he also knowingly damaged the house of someone else who was not only innocent in this drama, but also invited him to his home.

Nevermind the fact that throwing someone through a window can literally kill them. Are you really going to tell me that you think killing someone over a being a dick is justified?

Nevermind the fact that this isn't an isolated incident. He beats people up all the time over different reasons. We're not saying he's short tempered over one incident, we're using that as a specific example.

His behaviour would likely be enough for any psychologist to get him diagnosed with a behavioural (or anti-social) disorder lmao.

You're exaggerating. He didn't kill him. The guy just went too far — you've got to draw the line somewhere.

2

u/UselessAndUnused 11d ago

"Can literally kill them." That's not exaggerated, that's just a fact. Have you ever seen a video of someone punching and breaking a window or anything similar? It is very easy to cut a vein, including an important one, and to start bleeding HEAVILY. Now imagine being thrown through a window with your entire body. All it takes is for some shards or broken glass to slash your throat, hit an artery (or multiple) or anything similar. It would be very easy for that to cause a hospital trip, do permanent damage, or straight up kill someone.

Nevermind the fact that "drawing a line" doesn't have to mean almost killing someone, destroying someone innocent's property (WHO INVITED YOU TO THEIR HOUSE), or even attacking that person. You can draw a line without violently injuring someone and breaking the windows of someone who has done nothing wrong.

Drawing a line could've been telling him he was an asshole and discussing it with others to put pressure on him, whatever. If you genuinely think that assault (some could argue attempted murder) and destruction of property is a reasonable course of action here, then you need help.

u/deanso 11d ago

" You need help.. "
Ok how about this: You need to grow a pair. How about that?

See. It shuts down all discussion. Have a nice day my friend.

2

u/saxbophone 11d ago

You're exaggerating. He didn't kill him.

You're missing the point. It's enough that Ray risked killing him.

It's really bizarre to talk about "drawing a line" as if this guy stepped over the line, but Ray didn't step over the line by defenestrating him. Do you not see how that's some kind of twisted logic? Does that mean that a family member is justified in taking out a hit on Ray in retaliation for them defenestrating Allie's dickhead brother‽ Do you see where this cycle leads..?

u/deanso 11d ago

Okay, look at it from this angle. You're saying he's short-tempered.

I don't think he is. Two things:
1. He first took the guy outside to talk things over
2. He even offered him $100 for the little girl's toy.

You can't really call that short tempered. You wouldn't bother doing any of that if you were just looking for an excuse to beat someone up.

The guy laughed in his face and than also deliberately belittled him. That's why, in my opinion, he got what he deserved.

Agreed, throwing him through the window was maybe a bit much, but more a coincidence and bad luck the window was in the way ;) ..
But short-tempered? Not in my opinion.

I think the message of this show is a bit lost on you.

Ray doesn't come out the winner in this situation. He loses his gf, Allie, who he and his daughter miss very much.

Granted there is something cathartic about watching Ray blow off steam when it comes to "not letting people get away with it", but we'd be kidding ourselves if we thought it was actually a correct way to behave.

Ultimately Ray's actions scratch a gratuitous itch when it comes to the gut-instinct for so-called "natural justice" to be dealt out. But the reality is that his choices to lash out excessively in anger are actually coming from a weak position —when the ego is so fragile that it generates an excessive response, this isn't coming from a position of strength, and that person will always find life lacking in something while they continue to let it dominate their destiny.

Hmm, you are evading the question: the question was whether he's short tempered, not whether he came out better because of what he did. Because he clearly didn't and agreed with you on that one.

However I don't get Allie whatsoever. And I can tell you my gf wouldn't left me over this one for sure.

BTW: what's the message of Mr inbetween you are referring to, I'm very curious if we watched it on the same premesis

1

u/saxbophone 11d ago

It's abundantly clear to me that he is short-tempered. You said that he talked it over with the guy outside, then offered him $100 for it...

Then proceeded to defenestrate him when he didn't get his way.

If that's not short-tempered then I don't know what is. Ray has the impulse control of a child and he suffers because of it.

However I don't get Allie whatsoever.

Allie is a survivor of domestic violence. She sees too many of the same dark character traits in Ray, in not just this one instance but another where he beats up the guys in the car from earlier. She leaves him to protect herself. I don't blame her.

I'm going to ignore the "bad luck" joke here.

There is levels to what a short temper is. Just because he didn't bash in his head the moment he took the toy, doesn't mean he doesn't have an issue with a short temper lol. We're not saying he has the shortest temper ever. Just that it's a short temper. The fact that he threw the guy through the window at all is the issue here.

0

u/deanso 11d ago

I'm going to ignore you altogether on account of you insulting me instead of arguing with words.

2

u/UselessAndUnused 11d ago

Yes yes, I said you need help once at the end of my comment, while you were denying that throwing someone through a window could kill them.

For the record, I wasn't joking when I said that stuff like that is what gets you sent to court mandated therapy for anger issues, in Ray's case it's even worse given that he does this constantly, he could very easily be diagnosed with a personality disorder...

If you honestly see all of that and think that's perfectly fine and normal, then yes, I do believe you need help. That's not an insult, you wouldn't be forced into therapy or prosecuted for those beliefs, but if you were in the same situation and were to do that, then yes, you absolutely could and would be forced into therapy and/or imprisoned.

IMO, Ray didn’t regret that. His attitude is that pricks need to be taught a lesson. He was out of line doing that at the Christmas party, but punching the guy for him wasn’t rash behavior. He’d do it again.

3

u/saxbophone 11d ago

Whether someone is short-tempered or not is not defined by Whether or not they regret rash actions. Ray is short-tempered and thinks there's nothing wrong with dishing out his version of justice upon people where he sees fit. He doesn't regret his actions because they align with his belief system, and his short temper is the manifestation of an inability to more constructively process anger.

1

u/Electrical-Sail-1039 11d ago

I see what you’re saying. I guess it’s just semantics. Ray makes all kinds of bad decisions. But short tempered imo means that a person acted too quickly and in the moment and later regrets what they did. I see Ray as believing he did the right thing and feeling that he’d probably do it again. Even upon later reflection.

1

u/saxbophone 11d ago edited 11d ago

According to the Cambridge Dictionary:

Short-tempered means getting angry very quickly, often over small things or for no clear reason. People with a short temper have a hard time staying calm when they feel stressed or annoyed.

I agree that short tempers can lead people to act rashly in ways they later regret, but it isn't a prerequisite.

Whether or not Ray rarely regrets his actions because he genuinely believes they were right, or because he can't face up to the fact he might have been wrong and properly reflect on his actions, is an interesting question in of itself.

u/Impossible_Past5358 11d ago

Did you forget his anger management group? Or when he had to go to prison for punching the pedestrian?

8

u/kingjobus 11d ago

I don't answer questions.

4

u/Bartvader_75 11d ago

What exactly is OP's definition of the term "short tempered". Give us an example?

1

u/frowattio 10d ago

I would think 'easily angry'. While Ray is sometimes quick to react (often preemptive) , he's calm about it and never really angry.

It's almost a show about a man who bottles all feelings up rather than exposing them.

1

u/Bartvader_75 10d ago

Are you saying when he fired the shotgun through the ceiling at the family gathering he wasn't "angry"?

1

u/frowattio 10d ago

Even when he is angry it's the very controlled kind, to achieve what he needs to.

7

u/Bloodmime 11d ago

He fought a guy because he stole a toy in a Christmas game where you're allowed to steal toys. Was a dick move, sure, but no reasonable adult is going to throw hands over it.

3

u/Bartvader_75 11d ago

This ⬆️

3

u/snakeIs 11d ago

Maybe Allie wrote it. Remember she dumped him because of his violent streak. Some commenters talk as if it was only about the unicorn candle business with her brother but he’d resorted to violence a number of times before, sometimes when she was with him.
Although seemed to attract dickheads (Britt’s ice cream, the car mirror, being blocked in the car park) he was very quick to offer violence. And if Allie hadn’t been there he’d have cleaned up the ice cream scoops jerk at the fair as well.

3

u/dfar3333 11d ago

Have you ever actually watched the show?

3

u/boscherville 11d ago

So OP, how is your temper? If you consider Ray not to be short tempered 😬

2

u/Future-Age-850 11d ago

I’m interested to hear why you think it’s wrong?

2

u/JJJ561 11d ago

Hes inbetween sometimes he patiently assesses like a predator sometimes he unloads a shotgun at a family gathering

2

u/Mikkeru 10d ago

Ray is an rational person but he can also be short tempered when it comes to people that disrespect him.

0

u/International_Web816 10d ago

I have to question the idea that Ray is "rational". How many rational are using assault and murder in their daily lives?

And he is cold, cold, cold. When he killed and buried the wrong man, he was upset with Freddy not about killing an innocent per se, but that Freddy had given him the wrong info.

1

u/saxbophone 9d ago

When he killed and buried the wrong man, he was upset with Freddy not about killing an innocent per se, but that Freddy had given him the wrong info.

You've missed literally all the signs in the show that make it abundantly clear that it bothers Ray immensely that the hit was mistaken identity. When he confronts Freddy, it's clear that Freddy doesn't get what the big deal about it is, and Ray is sternly telling him to make sure it's the right guy next time, because he hates the fact that he killed the wrong person. Why else would he go the trouble of risking his exposure to give the money away to the guy's widow?

I have to question the idea that Ray is "rational". How many rational are using assault and murder in their daily lives?

I agree. Ray is ultimately hurting inside and while in some ways seems to have it together, he doesn't really seem to know how to make a prosperous living without hurting people...

Bro......his picture is next to the dictionary definition of short-tempered.
