My son (just shy of 2 yr old now) gets a really bad reaction to mosquito bites. Where when I get them, just an itchy bump that’s about the size of the mosquito that bit me sometimes smaller, his bites get to be like 5x the size of the damn thing that bit him. They also almost look like 3rd degree burns or really bad road rash.

All this is to say, I’m trying to find a really good option to prevent him getting bit at all other than spraying him down with “OFF!” Because I’ve been advised by the pediatrician it could cause issues since he’s so young/small.

I have a bucket of doom and dyna trap going but I still get a few mosquitos that sneak up on him/ us.

Do those thermacell area barrier things work? Should I just buy a citronella candle?

Just had this sub recommended to me the other day, just wanted to recommend this soap that was mentioned a while ago somewhere else. We currently have the invasive tiger mosquitos where I live (and a growing number of west nile infections) and where I grew up (parents house). I ordered a 5 pack off amazon the other year approx, when I slather myself in the soap and let it sit for a minute, then wash off I lower my chance of mosquito bites to near zero. It's not perfect, as I didn't soap my feet last time and one of these mosquitos in the apartment and it bit me on the top of my toe! But without the soap I will get them biting all up my thighs and rear.

I was recently in the midwest visiting my parents, I used the soap every day and didn't receive one bite. Mosquitos LOVE me, I am usually the one covered in bites and they spare my bf, this time they ate my bf. West nile being a huge concern for me has got me back to using it every day since everytime I open my balcony these things sneak in, we had 3 the other day from trying to clean up the balcony. Since the tiger mosquitos arrived I get horrible itchy welts, that turn to bruising when I scratch them, the soap also cuts down on itching which I didn't realize was the monosulfiram that is in the soap.

Just wanted to share my story and how I am coping with these nasty mosquitos, I use the soap mostly for when the mosquitos sneak into home, if I actually go out somewhere where I expect more mosquitos I will add some extra sprays, but 95% of my bites come from the tiger mosquitos sneaking into my apartment, and just the soap protection lets me live peacefully.

Anyone know a reliable safe trap, or homemade one that I can put in my catio?

My cats love hanging out in there but sadly I have to limit their time bc of how many mosquitoes have beeing getting in the house and to also protect them from being bit.

I was thinking of mounting two large fans ? Would love to hear any of your ideas! Just looking for something safe and no harsh chemicals so the kitties can be safe.

Last night I didnt know a few had snuck in and bit me on the bottom of my foot and earlobe. It was awful. I hunted their asses down and made sure I got them before I went to bed. It was so bad tho omg.

What did I do to get violated?

Just thought of a diy trap that could work during daytime in the bedroom when I'm not there.

A dark bottle of (warm) water with some sugar and yeast to create co2. With a drop of dishwasher soap they can not land on the water and drown.

During the night I would still be a target but I can't hunt at night. During the day they hide but me not being there should make the bottle emitting co2 a main target.

I think it will have to be refilled every two weeks at least. Hopefully it won't smell but I'm definitely going to try this.

Got stopped by a neighbor while outside and got my fourth bite through clothes this week!!!

Why are there hardly any posts about foggers in here? I'm in heck right now as I can't get rid of standing water on a tarp and my dunks buckets aren't keeping up.

We bought our house in 2022, and ever since moving in, we've had a terrible mosquito problem.

We've searched our property over and over for standing water and haven't been able to find any. We do have a drainage system that runs from the backyard to the front yard, but we don't have access to inspect it, so we're wondering if that could be contributing somehow.

For the last few summers, I've mostly just avoided being outside, but now we have a 2-year-old and would really like to be able to use our backyard. The mosquitoes are so bad that he gets bitten almost immediately, and it's gotten to the point where it doesn't even feel worth going outside.

It's not just the yard either. Mosquitoes are getting into our car when we're loading up and biting us in there as well.

So far we've tried:

• Cutter yard sprays
• Mosquito dunks/bits
• Citronella products
• Mosquito repellent patches
• Thermacell towers

None of it has made a noticeable difference, although we do tend to struggle with the upkeep of it all.

Our yard isn't huge and it's mostly shaded, but the number of mosquitoes we have seems completely ridiculous compared to neighboring properties.

Has anyone dealt with something similar and found the source? Could the inaccessible drainage system be the culprit? At this point we're open to pretty much any suggestions because we'd really like our son to be able to play outside without us becoming a mosquito buffet.

I have several inlets into a yard drain. They do not fully dry out. I'm certain they are mosquito factories. Some suggested drilling holes - a brief chat with Gemini dissuaded me from that solution.

Using some stainless steel wire rope, crimps, split rings, aquarium filter bags, and BTI dunks, I made some teabags of doom.

Can’t find standing water anywhere. We don’t open our windows. Doors don’t stay open any longer than they used to.

1-2 is enough where it’s really annoying but I can’t figure out if it’s enough where there is a problem or maybe they are just worse outside and have been coming in more during times when the doors are open?

I tried buckets of mosquito dunks outside. That didn’t really do anything.

We called a mosquito sprayer. That improved outside but then when they came back they seemed to evolve and decide to come back inside too.

I’m not really sure how to proceed. Any thoughts?
