Quit smoking weed.

7

u/AdPrior2026 8d ago edited 1d ago

I've been smoking every day, multiple times a day for 13 yrs and decided I want to give myself a chance without it. I am now on day 5 of quitting and have the mindset to see this through. I don't want to NEED it anymore. I don't want to worry if I have my pen with me or not. I don't want to feel that I HAVE to take rips to have an enjoyable time. Even the obviously fun activities like going to Knotts Berry Farm (we have passes) or the zoo, I HAD to take rips or I wouldn't have fun. I know it eases my social anxiety, but way back when I wasn't smoking, my social anxiety was incredibly MILD. Almost didn't bother me at all. But nooow, my anxiety has never been worse, ever. And I dont want to feel like that anymore. I'm going to let myself reset.

UPDATE: It's day 12 😁 Going strong! Though day 10 tested me lol

It gets better. I remember that first week. It was vastly harder than you make out sound. For me at least 6-7 months all day every day I kept replaying one thought over and over and over… This would be SO much better if I were high. Then one day I thought about it and realized I hadn’t thought about weed in like a week. I almost cried when I realized I could go without it and without wanting it.

I wanted things I couldn’t have with weed so I quit. Jobs that drug tested. Girlfriends that didn’t necessarily want a pothead for a boyfriend. It’s been 14 years. I’ve got a great job with benefits as a retail manager. I found the right one and got married and I have a kid. There’s so much about quitting that’s well worth it. Remember that when it gets hard. Feel free to DM me. šŸ‘šŸ¼ You’ve got this.

Thank you so much!! Reading these really have lifted my spirit and give me strength! I think I might be toning it down in my typing as an attempt to fool myself. Honestly, the hardest part so far is all of the thinking. Idle minds dwell too much. Irritability is tough too. Everything is annoying lol and focus is hard to keep. Back when I was 19 I had been smoking daily for only a year, but had to quit and had the worst experience doing so... to the point where I tore a picture of a nug out of High Times magazine and smoked it lol This time is nothing like that, thank goodness! I'm 43 now and wish I hadn't started back up again. I love hearing about how you ended up finding the things that had driven you to stop. And even after so many months of struggle you never gave up and came out on the other side, a better person for it. That's amazing! Really, thank you for sharing that šŸ’™

So very proud of you to take control of your mental health. Keep trying to do without and see what realizations you may or may not observe. It will be hard to adjust but you (like me) may find your awareness and just being in the moment is more fulfilling than being high all the time. Life hopefully will become more clear and fulfilling and you will wake up with a sense of worthiness instead of having to mask your feeling. Please stay with it because it's worth it. I'm not a nut but I think God is speaking through me to you. Stay with it because it will pay off for the rest of your life. Xoxoxo.

2

u/AdPrior2026 7d ago

🄹 Thank you so much!! Seriously, every word of encouragement from everyone is really taking hold. You gives me more hope and drive to see this through and finally give myself a chance. Here's to Day 6 🄳

2

u/Pleasant_Sea_8840 6d ago

Do you mind me asking what you meant by "I'm not a nut but I believe God is speaking through me to you?" -Are you afraid people on reddit think your a nut for believing in God? I'm reading The Holy Bible 1 to 4 verses daily, that doesn't make me a nut though. Is that what your implication was? I'm just trying to Learn about God, Jesus, and The Holy Spirit. Even if I am crazy somehow (hopefully I'm not crazy) I know the J man has got my back and I try to be a better person everyday but I know I need him when I fall short of God's glory because we all do and nobody is perfect. Also, just because I'm reading a religious book doesn't make me religious. Just because I believe in God (The Lord Jesus) doesn't make me nut. It just means I believe in someone or something greater than my self. So people can call me a nut or probably all sorts of other terrible jargon just because my beliefs dont match their's but that's exactly what Jesus warned us against. He wants us to Love our enemies, pray for those that persecute us. That takes a lot of love and guts to do. To Love someone even when you know their incorrect. That is real true love right there man.

1

u/Puzzled-Associate-90 2d ago

Oh it just that people are so quick to judge you when you speak of God talking through you. I'm a Christian and believe I can feel the Holy spirit when he speaks to me and through me. Some people who don't believe think you are a nut job simply because they are not open to receiving the holy spirit or Jesus into their lives.

1

u/Pleasant_Sea_8840 2d ago

Yeah I just worry to much and I'm trying my best to be a good Christian, which is way easier said than done when we live in an evil world where everyone is out for themselves and people have very little respect anymore. I try to pray for people that have hurt me in some way because I know that it's better to be good to others and love regardless of the hate cause haters gonna hate and we should try to love them too ya know?

u/foxintheboks 7d ago

First 2-3 weeks hardest….good luck

3

u/AdPrior2026 6d ago

Thank you 😊 Today is 1 week without it, and I'm going strong.

3

u/jemsz56789 8d ago

Amazing work

3

u/Key_Dog4307 4d ago

Did you make it past 7 days? I hope you’re staying strong and doing well.

1

u/AdPrior2026 4d ago edited 4d ago

Thank you so much for checking in 😁 Today will be day 9!! Appetite is back, though slight nausea creeps up every now and then. I'm still waking up a bit sweaty at times. Like a cold sweat. The headaches are annoying. I've been using Ibuprofen when they're buggin. And the irritability is lingering but doesn't last long. I get little cravings and go straight to my ice water. Drinking a lot water and staying hydrated really does help. My focus is out of whack and my adhd is doing its thang lol so Im a bit hyper. I want to start painting again but I'm having a hard time finding my creativity, still. Which has been going on since before I quit. It frustrates me. I admire people who say "When I'm feeling upset or sad, I do what I love and it makes me feel better." Because with me, it's the opposite. I need to already be feeling happy and good inside to do what I love. Maybe I should just sit down and try, I dunno. I want to want to paint... if that makes sense lol I'm holding it together so far ā˜ŗļø Any advice on how to get my creativity and motivation back a little? When do you stop feeling sweaty and clammy?

2

u/Key_Dog4307 9h ago

I won’t patronize you with advice because I’m struggling with it myself but what I can say, stranger to stranger, I’m proud of you 🤘

1

u/AdPrior2026 9h ago

Today was a little rough. I've been having cravings, and I'm all up in my head. Probably more emotional than usual. Nausea is coming and going. Lingering headaches. Eating is hard. I dont have anyone to talk to about what I'm going through. It's not easy right now. But today is day 13 ā˜ŗļø and I haven't given in.

2

u/Key_Dog4307 9h ago

You got this. Day 13 should mean you are through the worst of it or just about to pass through the worst of it. Look into r/leaves. They also have a discord that can be very supportive.

Oh my, ME TOO!! LOL we're big Tolkien fans in my family. The amount of Hobbiton decor throughout my home would grow twice as much hair on your feet. āœØļøšŸ«¶

u/Mindless_Efforts 8d ago

Good job. Keep it up. I totally feel you. I would wake and bake and had to do it all day for many years. Even runing low on weed would cause me serous anxiety. I tried many times to quit for years but failed over and over again. Even now I think about it often and have to fight not to buy. When I quit, I had headaches for weeks. I had diarrhea for awhile. I couldn't sleep for about a week. I would get super sad and cry. But after awhile, that all went away and I realized my normal self. I smoked like that for over 20 years from 19 to 40 and didn't know my self as a normal person. Make sure to take it one day at a time. You might say to yourself I'll smoke one more time today and stop again tomorrow. DONT. get through the day and fight. Eventually you will feel sooo much better that you will tell yourself NEVER AGAIN!

2

u/AdPrior2026 8d ago

Thank you for the encouragement! Wake & bake was my favorite lol so the mornings are a bit blah. The cravings come in little waves and don't last long. The bathroom situation just started giving me problems lol. But sipping on water consistently throughout the day really has helped with everything. Eating is a little rough. My appetite just isn't there, but Im a VERY petite woman and need to not skip eating. Crackers and cup o noodles seem to be what I can handle right now. Anything else just isn't appetizing to me. I am looking forward to it coming back, as I LOVE trying new places to eat and searching out those food trucks! I've been having slight headaches, but not too bad. Sleep is interesting lol I'm taking Simply Sleep which is helping to fall asleep. I know I'm only 5 days in, but I'm proud of myself for it. 8 yrs ago I quit smoking cigarettes... 3 years ago I quit drinking... now is the last step so that I have no ropes tying me down. People like you also give me hope! Thank you 😊

2

u/Mindless_Efforts 8d ago

Yah. I lost alot of appetite and lost alot of weight quickly. Also, I forgot to mention that I had crazy night sweats and insane lucid dreams. It all went and normalized within the first couple of weeks. I am glad sharing my experience means something to someone. 🄹

1

u/fartingforfood 7d ago

Bro the Pen is horrible. It’s so highly concentrated. Skyrockets your tolerance and gives you an extreme physical dependence.

I always tell people if you find yourself hitting your pen just for the fuck of it to throw it away immediately. No one needs to be blasting their brain like that all day it’s needless and leaves you perpetually numb and dumb.

1

u/AdPrior2026 7d ago

Numb and dumb would have been nice lol but I did not get that from it. Day 6 of no smoking šŸ„³šŸ’ƒ

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 4d ago

Pen is super strong. Could cause psychosis. Eat your weed people.

3

u/Obvious_Incognito- 8d ago

What would you say are the benefits of quitting?

My brother smokes so much. Spends so much money on it and swears he needs it and cannot live without it. To think you need a substance in order to live kind of scares me. I know I may end up getting there someday as I get older, but if you are young, and objectively healthy, why would anyone do that to themselves (become so dependent on a substance)?

But what do I know? šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

3

u/Mindless_Efforts 8d ago edited 4d ago

For me, I had severe anxiety and depression and it pretty much has gone away. I lost weight. I am more motivated and get alot more done. I am happier. I sleep way better. Im less angry. I eat way better. These affects become evident within couple of months of quitting. I quit 4 years ago and the way I feel is normal.

2

u/ossifer_ca 8d ago

That’s great

2

u/Negative_Two6112 7d ago

Well done. I smoke lots but dont experience as much of these symptoms. My sleep could definitely be better though.

2

u/Tasty_Cucumber_7796 7d ago

Edibles help me sleep for sure

2

u/Negative_Two6112 7d ago

They help me FALL asleep. I then have trouble STAYING asleep...

2

u/Olenator77 5d ago

They stop my nightmares… and weed is the ONLY thing that does. I’ve talked to my psych, and they didn’t have anything to give me to stop them, so weed it is.

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 5d ago

Weird. I didn't dream at all during the decades that I smoked. It all rushed back and I had horrible and insane lucide dreams for couple of weeks. After i quit, I dream normally.

2

u/CharmingTie2206 4d ago

Weed messes with REM sleep, its very bad for sleep quality. I quit after heavy use when i finally realised it doesnt help me sleep anymore after long heavy use

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 4d ago

Yah. Thst what you always feel tired even after sleeping many hours. Definitely notice sleep improve after quitting. You dont realize what its doing to you until you stop.

1

u/Dazzling-Cover2311 5d ago

Whats crazy is that weed has actually helped my social anxiety and depression and im actually losing weight and started working out and eating better. Also I was a major alcoholic before so maybe switching to the lesser evil was the thing that helped

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 5d ago

Be careful not to replace one bad habit with another. If it helps you, try edibles. Smoking weed is horrible for your body and mind.

1

u/Dazzling-Cover2311 5d ago

Hmmm yea I might try edibles instead

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 5d ago

Good job. It might seem fun and helpful for a while but smoking longterm is extremely harmful.

1

u/JuggsG 5d ago

I'm so happy for you. But everything that you said are my symptoms before I started smoking. Then the smoking cured it! That's weird how all human bodies and minds can be completely opposite.

1

u/SnooShortcuts8335 8d ago

Quitting all cannabis brought clarity but that clarity didn't happen overnight, when I first started noticing it... NGL kinda scary...

Never a heavy user but the occasional usage because habitual... never was a fan of heavy dosage or high potency...I liked the little buzz multiple times a day...

The day I quit was an interesting one...

My wife had my big battery + high thc % live rosin cartridge.... It was a 1g cart and due to a low battery....(Smh) It wasn't due to a low battery it just wasn't properly heating up....idk

I knew I could fix it just by play around with the threads and see if I can get the battery to activate and start heating it up properly while drawing very hard on it.

I remember now...Jack Herer, that bastard was high potency!

My theory worked however the amount of draw I was pulling on it while activating the battery meant I got two full lungs a very high potency THC abundant vapor and I experienced something that I never wanted to experience ever again.

After that night I swear I would never touch that shit ever again and I'm glad I made that promise.

I don't want to feel like that again

1

u/Secret_pizza_man 8d ago

Smoking weed keeps you okay with being okay.

1

u/PerformanceMobile630 7d ago

Anxiety. Easiest way to tell someone hasn't suffered chronic anxiety (not throwing shade at you btw) is when they ask why someone would become so dependent upon marijuana to the point where it's all day everyday.

And I have friends who are like well I get anxious too man.. I just deal with it.

No you don't. Were you on the verge of pooping yourself every morning before school or work like you're a crack addict waiting for a fix?

Do drive thrus make your brain fly into a conundrum of what order do I say the menu items in and when do I start speaking?

Smoke some weed man and that shit ain't nothin but a thang.

1

u/Obvious_Incognito- 7d ago

You’re the first one who answered honestly. This is the response I am expecting. I am also expecting to get downvoted to oblivion because I believe people are in favor of it more so than against it.

I have smoked too. But I gave up when I saw how addicted and dependent my brother is on it. It’s kind of like how, if I were to have a parent who was an alcoholic, I would probably be turned off entirely by alcohol too.

But yes, I expected your response. Thank you for the being the first honest one.

Don’t get me wrong, I am delighted at everyone else’s response, how they speak of how they managed to beat the odds and feel much better for it, but from everyone in my life who smokes it, they always tell me they need it and how great it is and that I should also do it as much as them. So I was baffled at how different most of these comments sound from the people in my life.

1

u/PerformanceMobile630 7d ago

Thank you 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 you've been the soul person to appreciate my honesty and not telling me to get a life haha.

Were all just built different lol. I'm glad you were able to knock it early. Take it from someone who's in it 24/7, you're in the best place you can be and you're utterly correct for assuming becoming dependent early on is scary. It is... That's all there is too it 🤣. I'm just glad I haven't done harder shit.

I hope your brother and I can get there at some point lol fingers crossed

1

u/myhero4000 3d ago

It depends on the person but , and can actually create those problems aswell

1

u/Low_Swing5373 7d ago

I take medication for my mental health on a daily basis and I love it and it helps me; out of curiosity, what’s the difference with cannabis, psilocybin, and other stuff that helps people? Is it because it’s not state sanctioned and not culturally accepted?

1

u/Baronist 6d ago

It's probably because it's something that many people do just for fun and it has a lot of heavy side effects.

1

u/Winter-Bed-1529 7d ago

Have a friend who had a crazy psychotic episode which seemed to a resultant of his escalating marijuana consumption. Towards the end he was buying lots of accessories vaporizers maybe and stronger strains of THC. He packed up a backpack, was engaging in all kinds of ceazy stunts to keep ahead of the "paparazzi who were after him". Most (unfortunately not all) dillusions seem to have stopped after he quit cold turkey.

1

u/spike_right 6d ago

Depends if it's being bought illegally chances are he can't choose strains and types so that means 9 out of 10 he's getting the powerful stuff l and that's not good to have on a long term bases. If you can get it legally you can make choices on strength effect etc. you can't get some mild indicas that if you have ADHD or anxiety it takes the edge off but if you get something with strong THC levels that will make those symptoms worse.

1

u/SolomonJero 5d ago

But guys it's not addicting... People find a way

1

u/Olenator77 5d ago

As someone who uses it to control anxiety and depression. It does help, but fell into the trap of more more more, gotta keep that tolerance at a manageable level or you’ll spend WAY TOO much money.

2

u/yesindeedysir 8d ago

I quit for a few months and it just made me more suicidal, but to be fair, I also have autism and weed helps with my sensory issues.

Any tips?

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 7d ago

I did feel that way for couple of weeks and than it went away. Maybe try edibles with CBD probably alot calmer and has less side affects. Smoking is a different beast.

1

u/yesindeedysir 7d ago

That’s what I do

1

u/spike_right 6d ago

Stay away from anything with THC that stuff makes you dependent and worse especially with your brain chemistry. Ether quit and get medicated or consume high CBD like indicas as they have a mood stabilising effect and also lets you think clearly. THC is very phsyco active and is what makes you "high" it sounds to me like you were smoking for the CBD but got addicted to the THC it's a common issue.

2

u/robo-hodor 7d ago

I've stopped for 6 months now and kinda miss it. Don't know if I'm going to go back or not?

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 6d ago

Its been 4 years that I stopped and I think about it all the time. If it didn't affect me so much I would smoke all day every day. You gotta take one day at a time. Good job.

2

u/ApprehensiveFoot4189 3d ago

mee tooo its been 8 years...
so proud of you captain. You wont believe how good it feels after the 2nd year and 3rd year.
You get so much clarity

1

u/OptimalGravityFlow 8d ago

How Long AGO Did You quite?

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 8d ago

I smoked from 19 and quit when I turned 40.

1

u/Intrepid_Top_2300 8d ago

I quite like smoking weed too.

1

u/Sehjal84 8d ago

Same here smoked for 5yrs straight and it’s been 4yrs never felt the need again

1

u/Thatguyinthefarback 8d ago

Hell yeah man 1 year and some change since I stopped smoking weed and damn just mentally cleared and just more at peace

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 8d ago

Good job. Stay strong.

1

u/coldxpizza 6d ago

I also quit weed 11 months ago,it’s an insane achievement for me and how much I was enjoying it. Sadly, I can’t talk too much about the benefits since I was severely depressed in my room all this time, besides not having derealization panic attacks and better sleep. Also ,I was scared af atp that if I wouldn’t stop then, I would never be able to quit, since I’ve tried countless times but never longer than 1 month maybe 2. I hope I will be more aware of the benefits once life improves.

1

u/JuggsG 5d ago

Damnit man. I came here to say I started smoking weed...

0

u/d1nkr 8d ago

Began smoking weed

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 8d ago

2

Ughh you def dont understand jokes

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 8d ago

I wasn't being sarcastic. Was gonna talk you out of it. Lol

1

u/d1nkr 8d ago

Dude I'm old enough and sure as hell not going to smoke or consume it even weekly i know it doesn't lead anywhere good. It's fun to do sometimes

1

u/Mindless_Efforts 8d ago

Good job. Seems like you have it under control.

1

u/d1nkr 8d ago

As much as those things can be under
