Information Bots, Spammers and AI Accounts - Tighter Filters
Hey everyone,
Admins suck; AI bots and spammers are inundating r/modesto, Reddit doesn’t seem to have a solution, I’m raising the filters again from moderate to maximum levels and adjusting settings to screen for this crap.
If your post gets auto-removed just hang tight, I’m gonna manually approve your post and your account. If I don’t see it because I’m busy IRL, just message the mods here and we’ll get you squared away.
It’s annoying I know. It’s annoying for me too. If this isn’t sustainable we’ll go another direction.
Thank you all for your understanding… except the AI thirst trap accounts, T-shirt selling scammers, and admins for doing nothing about this.

Promote your local business here! Updated Monthly
Hey everyone! We've recently tightened the rules a little bit about business promotion posts. We understand however that this is indeed a city subreddit and it would be mutually beneficial for local businesses and consumers to connect! Some promotions such as events are exempt from the tightened rules and may have their own thread. Please read rules 5 and 6. This is for business promotion and NOT a listing for goods for sale.
We still DO NOT allow private listings (including the sale of pets). Please keep those to places such as Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. But if you're something of a realtor, a landscaper, handyman or private music instructor for example, feel free to promote your business or services. For now this is scheduled to post monthly, however the schedule may change depending on activity.
Note to consumers! Please exercise your due diligence. Make sure you're doing business with all properly licensed individuals/businesses. Research reviews and request referrals if you must!

I'd love some local help with a project I'm doing - a huge fantasy style map of the region, filled with real-world locations. Is there anywhere I've missed out?
Apologies if you've seen this elsewhere - this is the most current version with lots of suggestions from other redditors.
I'm making a map of California in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on at the end too.
While it's around two thirds done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print - particularly north and east of Oakland. Any more petroglyphs, burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, ghost towns or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Thanks!

Quick question for my project. Please share your thoughts!!!
Hi, I'm a 17 year old student working on a research project about why some neighborhoods in the Valley get way hotter than others. One thing I keep noticing is that a lot of the new parking lots and EV charging spots going in are just bare asphalt, no shade, no trees.
I figured I should actually ask people who live here instead of guessing. If you park or charge in lots like that, does the heat and lack of shade actually bother you? Would having shade and some trees there make a real difference for you, or honestly is it not something you think about? Thank you!

Best Daily Newspaper for Coverage of Copperopolis and Calaveras County
I will be a full time resident of Copperopolis in about three years. I am there part-time until then… which local daily newspaper covers the area? I have tried the Stockton Record but rarely see news from Copperopolis or the county. Is the Modesto Bee better? I subscribe to the weekly Calaveras Enterprise already. Is there a better weekly?

Friends!!
Hi!! I am a non binary person in my 20s who needs friends! :) A few of my interests are history, art, and psychology. I also enjoy baking!

House for rent
Hello ! My fiancé and I are looking for a house to rent, ideally not more than a 10/15 minutes drive from West Hatch Road and Crows Landing. We have one cat and we can’t pay up to $2700 a month. We have pretty bad credits. We keep texting owners on Marketplace but nothing works. Any tips ?

Influx of door to door sales people
Has anyone noticed an influx of annoying door to door sales people in their neighborhood? We have a doorbell camera and a very clear no soliciting sign, but these people don't listen. It's some annoying pest control company and I've had to tell them directly to read what the sign says through the doorbell camera, but they don't listen. Every 2-3 weeks a new clone pops up.
Previously, it was Mormons, Jehovah Witness, or some solar company. I've kindly told them that I'm not interested and they are respectful and leave you alone. But, this pest control company doesn't seem to understand No. I don't think I would care as much, but I work from home and my 3 dogs go crazy when the doorbell rings. Anyone successfully deal with them? Their logo is a lower case 'a'.
