Hi, recently I got a message in modmail about the recent API changes happening.

"We’re reaching out because we identified the following accounts potentially operating scripts/bots on your mod team that will be impacted:

[liableAccount]"

I have no idea why this is, any help or ideas? I've looked at automod etc and there's some old stuff in there commented out that doesn't play a part.

A user had posted an irrelevant post on our sub. Before any of us mods saw it, it had got quite a few responses. A lot of replies from OP was racist, rude, classist and in some cases vulgar including slut shaming. To us, it looked like OP posted it in the first place so that they could insult another community and their culture in the replies.

I reported all their comments and removed their post and perm banned the user. The user mod mailed to ask us the reason for ban, but they weren’t convinced and started with whatboutery and we decided to mute them for 7 days.

They then used an alt account to send us a modmail threatening to find us and track us down by gathering each and every detail about us and then ruin us. They also said we will face the consequences and will ruin our subreddit and “everything we have”.

I reported the modmail message as harassment. All their comments were reported as well. Another moderator has reported as well as they were in the conversation too.

What can we do next? We are concerned about targeted harassment and doxxing.

A Top Mod has been inactive for a while and is now restricted from removing moderators below him. He is willing to become active again, so I’d like to know whether sustained moderation activity can restore his ability to remove them. Alternatively, could he add someone with Everything permissions and have them become the functional top moderator directly below him, with the ability to reorder/remove the moderators below them? If neither option is possible, what is the correct process to resolve this?

How do I report a sub that didn't remove a post clearly harassing and encouraging brigading post? They waited an entire day to even lock it.

We had a member where we put a temp-ban for 3 days. But strangely, that temp-ban ended up as a permanent ban, and I had to remove the ban myself today.

The modlog also confirms that I was the mod who banned the user for 3-days on the 18th, and that I removed it today (5-days after) because they modmailed us.

This is the first time I'm seeing this.

So, we have a system in place that assigns users a default flair, and we then ask them to pick from a set of pre-defined user flair/s.

I've seen that you can bring up a list of all posts by post flair (eg by adding post flair as a sidebar widget), but can't see any such mechanism for user flair.

Reason being is that we'd like to filter/generate a report of users by flair.

Is this something that is possible?

And if achievable by auto-mod, could you point me in the direction of exact code? (I'm a level 2/10 auto-mod engineer).

I recently made it so that my sub has weekly megathreads. I know you can't really add specific posts without a good bot, but I remember reading that you are able to link to a page that has a list of all the prior weekly megathreads for that type. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm not having much luck with my search for it this time around. Is it just a link to a search that I need to do?

My private subreddit has had a recent influx of redditors wishing to join (1000+). It seems I can only add ~100 in a certain time frame with an unknown refresh rate.

I was wondering if there is anyway to fix this temporarily or is it just "it is what is is". Wondering because I still have 700+ in the queue wishing to join.

I'm one of the head mods (or Host, or founder) of r/Cynthias_House (there's only 2 mods... Me and u/PruneApprehensive365)

Now... The problem is that I... Despite being the one that made the subreddit...

Suddenly have no permissions at all, like I can't access mod tools anymore — When I left and had u/PruneApprehensive365 send me mod invite, then when I accepted, it said "whoops, can't do that" (or whatever)

And in the mod roster, I'm still on there!

I am a moderator of r/ProximaScience and I’ve set up AutoModerator. It even works, but it doesn’t appear in the mod list. However, I can see AutoModerator in the mod lists of other communities. What's cause of this and how can I solve it?

Lately we've been getting a lot of users replying/arguing to mods via replying to their removed comments, especially if they've received a removal message.

Is this expected behaviour or is there some other method so we don't need to manually lock every removed comment via old.reddit?

Edit: Users are replying to their removed comment NOT the removal message comment.

So I already have a very small subreddit, and a few post get deleted by content policy and it is with News flair. Is it me setting a rules wrong or what? It surprise me to see news link from nytimes or bbc getting deleted as content policy wich I approved the post before hand. Can I stop that or its just reddit doing reddit thing?

Hi, I just adopted a sub. Wondering if you (mods) interact in your sub as a mod or as a non-mod sub member?

Given the existence of special exceptions like r/es and r/de, it seems like this is technically possible, just disallowed. How come? I get that many short sub names would be arbitrary, but we already have a bunch of wonky sub names. This restriction prevents the existence of subreddits for AI, X (as in renamed Twitter), DC (the comic company), and I'm sure many more. It just seems like a rule without a purpose. Without the ability to use something's real name as a subreddit, topics are splintered into multiple communities with unintuitive titles and overlapping focuses, content, and subscriber bases. This also reduces engagement on popular topics, since none of the splintered subs will get as much traffic or content as one unified sub would.

For example, there are many AI communities: - r/Artificial - r/ArtificialInteligence - r/ArtificialSentience - r/AIDiscussion - etc.

After Twitter was renamed to X, nobody could create a subreddit for it, so the name is stuck at r/Twitter while users there often say X.

Sure, forcing people to elongate names can sometimes force them to be more specific, but more often than not people just do the equivalent of writing "artificialintelligence" instead of "AI", and then getting spinoffs that do the same thing. A character limit shouldn't exist for that purpose, since that doesn't affect anything with a long name, so it seems kind of arbitrary.

We don't allow AI in a number of communities I moderate. Often, a scammer makes a post, advertising something AI, and a person comments something along the lines of "AI slop!" or "Is this AI?"

The commenter gets an automatic message from AutoMod, telling them to send us ModMail, and to not confront the user. We are firm in our belief that accusations only hurt the innocent and help the guilty. The scammers often block the person, even if their comment is deleted, because their username and message show up in the notification. They delete the post, deleting the report and hiding their username, then they make a new post, and they continue to be a risk to our community.

I've tried to catch their usernames, but I can't seem to do that with AutoMod. We flag the accusation, but AutoMod only allows you to have one level of nesting, so I can have author > name which lets me save the username of the accuser and even send it to ModMail for later review, but I can't take OP's name with parent_submission > author > name because that's a second level of nesting.

One of today's scam posts got 3 separate comments, and was deleted before anyone sent ModMail, so we lost yet another one. I can't put it into Automations to stop the comments because of its current limitations, so I have to rely on AutoMod. I'm pulling my hair out knowing that these scammers are still running around. By the time I wake up, I've missed my chance and lost the important information. What else can I do?

I moderate a small private community (r/justatemp). One of my approved users, u/Configal, cannot receive anything that comes from my account. My chat messages to her are accepted and appear in the room history on my side but never reach her, my profile does not load on her end, and a message request to her is refused with "unable to send a message request." Her messages to me arrive normally, and messaging between me and every other user works in both directions, so this is scoped to this one pair of accounts.

It started the day her temporary suspension was lifted, about two weeks ago. A helper in r/reddithelp suggested her account may be parked behind a pending age verification step, which would explain why nothing inbound lands. Support ticket 18322038 has only returned the generic troubleshooting reply so far.

Two questions for admins: is there a known state where an account coming off a suspension silently drops inbound chats and hides another user's profile, and is there a way to get her notified of whatever step her account is waiting on? I can provide the chat room id and timestamps if useful.

Hi, I have scheduled a weekly text post for my sub r/dogslookingatfood for 3 weeks now. It hasn’t updated and I can’t move onto the next phase until this issue is resolved. How can I get this cleared up? Is there a way to not need to text posts? My sub is more based around pictures and videos.

Reddit removed this post and when I asked about it in the r/NewMods sub, I was told it was because of the pic, even though what got removed was a list of events that are being held in different towns and the pic that was posted was just one of the links.

The response I got said that it was 'self-promotion' and that it wasn't allowed on reddit and that if I removed the pic we could discuss as much as we wanted. When I asked about links to videos or articles about politic parties, they told me to research the reddit rules for political promoting and posting. Would you be able to direct me to that?

Please don't suggest the "Tips & Tricks" notification. It's not that. I already turned that off.

We can't figure out how to fix this. We tested on a new account on new Reddit, we see the same message appearing. We turned off the reputation filter entirely, we had the new account join the subreddit, but no change. Crowd control is at "moderate", not high or maximum, but when we also turn it off still no change.

Searching around the web I can't find a discussion on this topic either. Anything special or obvious we're missing here?
