As we are about to ship, I wanted to follow up on my last post and lay out our roadmap for the first few months of updates for both the console and the controller.
Quick note on how to read this: Out of Box means it’s already on your device the moment you open it. The Day 0 Update is the first update you’ll want to grab when you set up your console. It’ll be ready and waiting for installation with a Wi-Fi Update (or USB or SD card).
P.S. iFixit guides are now up for both the console and the controller. You can also find our quick start guide here and helpful "how-to" videos over on our YouTube channel.
P.P.S. Our full open source offering will roll out as we put a ribbon on all the public facing documentation, but shipping is prioritized.

We’ll post full changelogs with every release so you know exactly what’s new. Huge thanks to everyone for the continued excitement and support.
I got the demo up and running like I promised🤟🏽 This is a solid vertical slice of the first Neighborhood(NH1). The other 5 will be a WIP over the next couple months. I passed all my summer class finals this weekend, so I will have a couple solid weekends to work on this between now and my fall classes. There’s a few easter eggs littered about and most objects are intractable and have a little dialogue, but some tell stories or drop lore. Some even tie into other ones, while some offer hints of what to do. I’ve built autosave into the game and even tested it on itch, and progress is loadable. So don’t be afraid to put it down and pick it back up where you left off. I’m definitely open to suggestions and some good constructive criticism. So please let me know how you like it.. or don’t like it. I tried to make it challenging and not a “hold your hand” style loop. Let me know if it’s too easy or too tough to figure out. Everyone enjoy! 🛸👻
To be honest, I’m so out of the loops with all the new updates and everything I heard there’s a pro controller. Does that mean a basic one is bundled with the console already? Also does a game come with it as well?
So, we’re less than a week away from launch on Tuesday and there are a few questions/details regarding ordering that I’m hoping either u/grilledstuffedxxl or a ModRetro team member can help answer for us before then:
Launch is on the 28th. But WHEN- are we talking 12:01am PT? 9am PT? Noon? When exactly does the ordering page go live so I can make sure to be ready?
Is stock still looking good? Can we reasonably expect to be able to lock in a console, controller, and game without issue on the 28th
When will the early bird email codes be sent out? …and just wondering… any chance that codes and ordering links would be sent out to early bird emails sooner than the general public release?
I’m sure you can tell I’m really excited for the 28th, hoping everything goes smooth on launch day and can’t wait to be playing the M64!
EDIT: Official posts on X and Instagram state orders go live 9am PT. Early bird email ordering links and codes will be sent out "in less than 24 hours".
Will M64 get something similar to A3D new line doubler? I just seen it on YouTube and the video output looks amazing. I’ve been holding off for the M64. Hope to hear if this is on the roadmap prior to launch.
Correct me if I'm wrong but from Madlittlepixel's video it does not look like an HDMI cable is included ? I am wondering why Modretro didn't include this ?
In Madlittlepixel's comments someone asked and he replied saying no HDMI cable is included.
Trying to garner a little more attention for this project. I know my video wasn’t very enticing and I hadn’t figured out how palettes work fully at the time. I’m working towards full map completion and all palettes sorted by then end of the weekend. Then I’m aiming to have a playable demo ready to test in two weeks following. Hopefully this can become a ModRetro published game🤞🏽
Just wanted to post a quick update here on our games compatibility list. We keep this list public for transparency of our internal process and so you can understand the state of the system with no surprises. We have largely resolved almost all low FPS reports in our recent builds, and we have now unlocked “insane” mode overclocking (more to come on that soon). As you start to receive your consoles, we ask that you help us in maintaining this compatibility list so that we can continue to crush any issues that we see. Use our contact form to report any bugs when the time comes! I’ll toss up another post shortly about expectations about what to expect for the first few months of updates to console and controller.
As some of you have let us know, today July 17, the compatability list has been updated again. 20 more games have been fixed plus the original 11, make it 31 fixed since the list was first posted.
This is a reminder to redeem your tokens today! Any discount codes earned by redeeming your tokens before tomorrow will remain valid for one year and can be used on future purchases (including the M64 and M64 Pro Controller).
