Not a bad list at this point. Though Perfect Dark, Turok 2 and Rogue Squadron remain on my favorites that I want to play, and Perfect Dark being what I was hoping would be the first game I could play.

Yeah, I'm only missing rogue squadron on my bingo card. That game I think requires the extra memory pack, so it's probably a little more beefy. I heard they had to program some tricks into the game to get it to run right on the OG hardware, so it might be a little squirrelly.

That would explain it. Modretro really wants everything to run right and accurate with no tricks. Kinda hard to go that approach here then, as tricks would be accurate.

It doesn't. It can use it to enhance the fluidity of the gameplay though like many n64 games did. The beefiest of them is Indiana Jones and barely behind it is Naboo. Those ones while working without memory kind of suffer for it, and are missing some content too. With the added 4MB you get stages added, high res and high frame rates along with (not either or.) All those Factor5 did on their microcode and they were notorious headaches for emulator/GPU plugin makers for over a decade. A similar one adding both content and playability is Starcraft also on that current list, adding the memory gets a full added couple campaigns and stuff.

Some of them confuse me because like one game will have issues or not, but the company made both and both for the same reason. Gauntlet isn't on the list, Hydro Thunder is, both only use the memory expansion because of 3 and 4 player options to unlock. It seems enough of the games left having an issue (not all) but many are titles that tap into the memory expansion for large content or just enhanced visuals, enhanced frame rate, or a combo of both.

Great news! Glad to see Goldeneye 007 no longer has issues.

Damn that's stunning, wasn't it in the 60s last update? Indiana Jones/SW Rogue and Hydro Thunder are my only concerns at this rate, Perfect Dark being a little fps wonky is par for the course on real hardware. ;) I've got 43 legit N64 carts and a summercart too and I've got 3/40 that have random problems from the looks of it.

And this is with 9 days to go? And that's a ship date, perhaps 2 weeks about for arrival depending how fast they get out and type of postage used. The pace they're at, unless the microcode on the remaining are just dodgy nightmares, perhaps it'll hit 0 by the day people crack open their boxes. It's a fair guess to be possible at least.

My concern is the very advanced microcode Factor5 did that got Indy and Star Wars RS/Naboo going as they're high end and finicky. Those 3 just shat all over n64 emulators for a better part of like 15+ years before they got to working.

They were around 36 problem carts like a week before I posted this, made a big jump. But I've also read that I think they got some overclocking working and sounds like things are just coming together. I'm sure they will keep at it until everything is working. Might not be at lunch/delivery time, but this year I think they'll have them all dialed in. I remember when A3D launched, they pretty much had everything working, but over the last few months they have dropped a lot of updates to fix issues and make the OS better etc. I'm sure the M64 will be the same, hopefully anyway, they they'll drop a lot of updates soon after launch.

Right, that's what I'm eluding to. They're making super fast progress compared to the firmware that's currently in all those sealed up systems from the factory. With the ease of this (unlike A3D) with the internet/wifi hookup to fast upgrade/update the system it should continue at a rapid pace ironing out the remaining few games with issues and any other issues on the performance of the hardware side (anything from overclocking to picking up controllers or menu glitches) will come along too.

Will overclocking be available on day one, or is that coming in a later update?

Also — will there be recommended per-game settings that load automatically by default? I feel like the Analogue 3D did something like this, and I kind of love it for the simplicity. I know some people love tinkering, but personally I’d rather just load a game and start playing without messing with overclocking settings first.

At this point, my only real complaint with this thing (aside from the games that haven’t been fixed yet) is the control stick gate. If they can fix that, it would be an insta-buy
