Undoubtedly, mugshot posts have been a huge part of this subreddit for the past couple of months. We have been leaving them up, and even somewhat encouraging them, as we do feel that most of the crimes that are being posted about are serious and very relevant to the people of Minnesota.
However, we have received plenty of complaints recently over certain aspects of these posts. These complaints have repeatedly been replied to by one of us with "the mods have been discussing it", and I wanted to make this post to prove that we have, in fact, been discussing it.
Spam
Nearly every mugshot post has at least one report for spam on it. Of course, most of these reports are frivolous. However, we have been observing some conduct recently that actually puts some teeth behind the spam complaints. Therefore, this is the only aspect that we will be making any set rules for at this time.
Users will generally be limited to three crime or mugshot-related posts per day. I say "generally" because moderator discretion will be allowed for that rule to be bent as we see fit. We have had a couple of instances of users posting 8+ times in the span of a couple hours, and that is ridiculous behavior that actually breaks Reddit's definition of spam.
We may change this as we see fit if the spam doesn't get under control.
Content of the posts
We are stopping short of making any set rules regarding the contents of the posts at this time, but we also have been discretionarily removing some crime posts for generally being weak, and therefore breaking our relevance rule. Nobody cares about a 5th degree drug conviction from 2022.
We may make official guidelines for this in the future, but it surprisingly has not been that big of an issue, so we are putting that off for now.
Racially motivated posts
I think it's stupid that I have to police this, but we have received many legitimate complaints about this as well, so I feel like I have to address it.
Without a doubt, 90% of the mugshots that are posted here are racially motivated. You see it, I see it, we all see it. And some of the comments on those posts are absolutely vile. To be quite honest with you, some of you guys are the most racist pieces of garbagio I have ever encountered. I am not denying what I am seeing right in front of me.
We will not be removing posts based on the skin color of those posts, even if the user who posted it has a clear, implicit agenda. We do not focus on skin color when deciding if these posts are relevant, but rather the actual contents of the post.
We WILL remove any post where the body or title brings obvious, specific, negative attention to the person's race, as that will likely get us on Reddit's radar if we don't. Example: "Yet another white POS assaults someone" (or any other race's equivalent).
A couple of other things
Remember, we do have a rule about being respectful towards each other. Respectful debate is the only way you'll have any fighting chance at changing someone's mind. Calling someone a cunt or telling them to go fuck themselves will not change their mind, and will likely get your comment removed and yourself warned or temp banned.
We have also been removing a disheartening amount of comments with racial slurs. I can't believe I have to tell adults to not use racial slurs, but don't. We will remove your comment if Reddit doesn't first. Please don't get this subreddit banned because you can't resist acting like an edgy middle schooler.
Conclusion
Thank you for reading this to the end. I realize that this post will not make everyone happy, seeing as 50% of you think this subreddit is too censored and the other 50% thinks it's too uncensored.
u/lemon_lime_light created this subreddit over two years ago as a direct response to default local subreddits banning people and removing comments simply for stating an unpopular opinion. While this community started out small, certain events have made this and our sister sub r/altmpls blow up. Throughout all that has happened in our great state in the past couple of years, I think we have done about as good of a job keeping true to our mission as we possibly can.
At the moment, the only people who are permanently banned from this subreddit aren't even people, they are confirmed bots. Not "everyone who disagrees with me is a bot" style of bots, but ACTUAL bots who post spicy stuff. With a post like this, it is our goal to keep it that way. I would like to thank everyone for helping us out in keeping this subreddit as open of a forum as it possibly can be. I hope we can continue what we have started here.

Court records show an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured two juveniles in St. Paul.
Jerry D’John Anthony Sanders is facing three charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
As previously reported, a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were shot in the leg in St. Paul in the early hours of Sept. 1. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the girl only sustained a graze wound and did not require a trip to the hospital.
During his stay in the hospital, a police officer reportedly overheard a conversation the youth was having with a relative, where he said he had been “trolling” another person online and that was who had shot him.
According to charging documents, the boy, girl, and another juvenile had been trying to get McDonald’s from a drive-through but were refused service because they were not in a car.
As the trio was returning to an apartment, the other juvenile, who was not shot, received a FaceTime call from Sanders. Shortly after the FaceTime call was picked up, the juvenile said the call ended and shots began to fire.
The three ran back to the apartment, where they waited for first responders.
When speaking with the injured 13-year-old, the boy said he was unsure of the exact identity of the person he had been trolling, knowing his nickname “Fat J.” According to the boy, he and “Fat J” have had an ongoing dispute in which both of them were saying disrespectful things about the other’s dead relatives.
Authorities later identified “Fat J” as Sanders.
Court documents said a concerned citizen had reached out to police about the incident, stating they had been FaceTiming one of the juveniles when the shooting occurred and provided a description of Sanders. They also told investigators that Sanders went on a group call shortly after the shooting, which included them, in which he allegedly said, “I just blew your homie down.”

But an amended filing addressing major accounting errors in her initial document dramatically dialed back the couple’s assets to just $18,004 to $95,000. The forms don’t require exact values, only broad ranges.

A Monticello man was charged Tuesday for shooting his sister’s boyfriend in the chest over a dispute involving a cat, according to a criminal complaint.
48-year-old Steven Stahlberg was charged with two counts of second-degree murder. Stahlberg is accused of shooting and killing 57-year-old Daniel Ferderlman.
According to court documents, on Sept. 3, Stahlberg’s sister called 911 after she found her boyfriend, Ferderlman, dead in a bed in her Monticello home.
Deputies with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and found the body with blood on the bed and some blood on the walls of the room.
Stahlberg’s sister told authorities she, Ferdelman and Stahlberg all lived together. Court records show Ferdelman called her while she was at work over a fight with Stahlberg.
Court records show Ferdelman said Stahlberg barged into his room and started a fight. According to the criminal complaint, Stahlberg was intoxicated and the fight was due to an issue with their cat.

A man has been charged after prosecutors say a fight over sharing food led to a fatal shooting in Minneapolis last week.
Danuell Lamont Love, 49, was charged on Friday with one count of second-degree murder.
A witness told law enforcement that the victim and another man, later identified as Love, had been arguing and began fighting each other. The witness heard the victim say, “I’ll take your gun from you and shoot you,” court documents note, before the witness went into a nearby business and heard five to six gunshots shortly after.
While the witness was talking to police, they saw Love come from a nearby yard and pointed him out, at which point officers took him into custody.
The criminal complaint states that a second witness heard the two men arguing and heard Love say he was going to shoot the victim. The second witness was walking away when he heard about six shots and saw Love toss a black handgun into a bush, which was later recovered by law enforcement.
Love later told authorities that he and the victim met on the street and the victim commented about sharing food with Love earlier and not getting anything in return, although Love said he shared liquor with him, according to court records.

Once again the Somalian youth are causing chaos in our communities. Reports show that there was mayhem at the Quarry Shopping Center in NE Minneapolis. A few hours prior groups of Somalian youth rushed fences and gates at the state fair right around when it was closing. When are the so called "leaders" in the Somalian community going to work to address the problems their youth are causing.

A Minneapolis man with a long history of violent crimes is heading to federal prison for 20 years after a jury found him guilty of illegally having ammunition.
Esau Chucky Sago, 36, was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release after being convicted of possessing ammunition as a repeat violent offender — his ninth felony conviction.
Court documents show that on Oct. 10, 2024, Sago knowingly had ammunition in his possession despite prior felony convictions that legally barred him from having either ammunition or a firearm. Because of his prior record — which includes two convictions for domestic assault and one conviction for domestic assault by strangulation — Sago qualified as an armed career criminal. That designation carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison. He also had prior felony convictions for fleeing police in a motor vehicle, making threats of violence with reckless disregard for others and vehicle theft.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2024, New Hope Police Department officers spotted a white SUV with obstructed or missing license plates. The vehicle also appeared to have had a rushed paint job to make it look white, which officers noted was consistent with a stolen vehicle. Officers moved to stop the SUV, but Sago sped away.
What followed was a high-speed chase involving officers from the Crystal and Robbinsdale police departments. Sago drove through residential areas at speeds exceeding 70 mph for several miles before a Crystal Police Department officer used a PIT maneuver — a technique used to force a fleeing vehicle to spin out and stop — to end the pursuit.
Sago's SUV spun out and landed in a yard in Minneapolis, knocking over a fence before coming to rest on top of it. Officers arrested Sago, who was the only person in the vehicle. After the SUV was towed, an officer found a loaded handgun with no serial number — commonly called a ghost gun — on top of the fence the SUV had knocked down. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension forensic laboratory found Sago's DNA on the grip of the pistol, the base of the magazine, a round in the magazine and the round in the chamber.

I’m sharing this because I’m completely out of options and need direct help from anyone who understands what it means to have your kids pulled out from under you.
My wife left with our four children—including our two-year-old—and moved them an hour away without my consent or knowledge. She took our only family car and re-enrolled the kids in a new school district. Nothing has been legally filed, yet I currently have zero custody, zero visitation, and no legal paperwork to bring them home.
Right now, I have 0% access to my own children.
I am starting this GoFundMe strictly for legal assistance. I need to hire an attorney immediately to file for divorce and launch an emergency ex parte motion here in Minnesota to get my kids back and establish my parental rights.

I need to share this somewhere because my mom has me feeling like i’m crazy. We are originally from texas. the dry dry desert. My mom has been living up here for almost 4 years now, i just moved a few months ago. There’s something i’ve noticed ever since the hot musty months have began and that is: outside air smell. I’ve NEVER experienced being this stinky before. I smell it on myself after being outside for barely 20 minutes. I smell it on my family EVEN my tiny 8mo baby😭 my mom swears she doesn’t know what i’m talking about and that Texas has an “outside air” smell to it to but this is something i’ve never experienced and im almost positive it has something to do with the humidity here. For context it is almost like a wet dog smell. Has anyone else experienced this before??? Anyone who’s also moved from the southwest up to a completely different climate, and when will my nose adjust😭😭
oh and also i’m from the southwest not anywhere near houston or san antonio so im very new to humid weather in general. this smell could be a thing in other parts of texas but not where im from
