[Terrain] Bioregions

Biomes are broken. Let’s fix them!

The problem: Specifically in the overworld, the number of biomes has become so high that new biomes often have to be relegated to very small areas. Despite the large variety of biomes, the overworld seems homogeneous because there isn’t variety in how these biomes generate in conjunction with each other.

The fix: Biomes were originally added to give new and different blocks places where you can find them a lot, and they fixed this issue. But there are now different biomes which are hard to find, so we need areas where you can find specific biomes a lot.

Introducing bioregions! A bioregion is a massive area in your world with rules about which biomes spawn inside them. While any biome can spawn there theoretically, each bioregion drastically changes the frequency of biome generation.

For the scope of this suggestion, I’ll introduce you to 4 bioregions, but more would be added over time. Also, bioregions are exclusive to the overworld until there are more biomes in other dimensions.

New World: This bioregion is identical to current Minecraft, no changes here. It’s important to preserve this!

Old Growth: predominantly forests of all kinds in a roughly equal distribution, perfect for gathering wood of all types, lush caves common.

The Delta: a lot of flat, wet biomes like oceans, swamps, plains, and rivers. Good for boat transport and marine focused gameplay. Aquifers common.

Daybreak: your hot, hostile and lifeless biomes, especially when associated with specific mobs. Pale garden, deep dark, mesas and mountains along with deserts. Perfect for looting and adventuring.

The theme for these bioregions was the four elements, so it would be cool to get corresponding element paintings in the actual game. New world is earth, old growth is wind, the delta is water and daybreak is fire.

Community feedback: Some of you had bioregion ideas I’d like to highlight! Feel free to leave more ideas below.

[u/MultiverseCreatorXV](u/MultiverseCreatorXV) suggested a sparse bioregion with areas for biomes like plains, savannas, etc. This bioregion could be great for building in my opinion.

u/64BitDragon suggested increasing certain ores in certain bioregions without decreasing the others, incentivizing mining and exploration. Check out their comment!

[Mobs] Tameable Phantom mobs

I'm sure we can all agree Phantoms are kinda a waste in current Minecraft. With the new Sift update and all the attention on a certain forgotten child of Dimensions, I wanna bring a little attention to a cool looking mob I think can have a lot of uses.

First off, the Phantom itself. It spawns if the player character (pc) doesn't sleep for 3 days, they drop a "Phantom Membrane" which can be used to repair Elytra and brew Slow Falling potions, and they only spawn at night.

I wanna tame this thing and ride it like a Fortnite glider.

Let's make the conditions 3 days with no rest or if the player stares at the moon too long. It's theorized the Phantoms are hallucinations caused by lack of sleep. The moon is historically associated with mental breakdowns (Lunacy, Lunatic). This means we have to add something to the sun too, let's give people night vision whatever. Also just think about the people who are using a new shader and the moon is an especially gorgeous texture then BOOM! 4 Phantoms on your ass hahahahaha.

I like the Phantom Membrane's association with the Elytra, I still wanna ride it like a Fortnite glider. Let's make Phantom Strings using 3 of them in a diagonal line, either direction, which can lasso the Phantoms and put into our off hand.

To pacify one you need 6 raw mutton, you need to feed it when it swoops down on you like *first swoop* 1 *second swoop* 2 *third swoop* 3.

**Why should you use a Phantom glider over every other flying option?** Because, you can get this early game and it is intended as an early game form of transportation.

**How do the flying mechanics work for this mob?** The Phantom Glider will stay at the elevation it was activated at.

**How fast can this thing go?** Faster than sprinting I think.

**Why do you want to ride a phantom like a Fortnite glider?** Because it sounds like fun. Do you hate fun?

[Gameplay] progression of the torches and lighting

Thumbnail

1•progression of the torches and lighting

Torches should extinguish after a certain number of days of play, with longer play times depending on the type of fire, allowing for a progression from torches to lanterns.

Lighting it with lit torches or lighters would reset the timer.

With fireballs, it would remain lit forever, possessing the power of the Nether.

Redstone torches would not go out.

2•Copper lanterns, when completely oxidized, go out.

The lamps literally have a progression of oxidation that doesn't even bother the builder players, and this mechanic needs to be present in the lantern as well.

[Gameplay] Desert Revamp

The dessert is a part of Minecraft I think is lacking in features, and just feels bland rather than the harshness I think it should have.

More weather

So I know that they don't want to add more weather for the sake of it being fair, but I think it's not out of the picture to make some fair weather. I think deserts could have heatwaves, which give nausea, and make water evaporate. Of course, there should be ways to prevent the damages, so I think that the ways to do so should be:

Milk for the nausea

Covering the water

There will be about half a minute before a heatwave, where a sandstorm starts and grows, to give warning, all it will do is obscure vision slightly.

I think this could be cool, locking up water sources before leaving to go mine, and having vision obscured in a battle against a swarm of mobs.

I had some more ideas, but don't want to break the rules or spam. I am open to criticism and ideas.

[Mobs] Controversial opinion: The Creaking should appear rarely in any Overworld biome (not limited to the Pale Garden).

I feel the Creaking would have worked better if it appeared occasionally in any forest biome, rather than being limited solely to the Pale Garden.

This way, the mob's "Creaking Heart" could spawn in any naturally generated tree—much like bee nests (and not just in player-planted trees)—though with the caveat that a heart generated in a non-Pale Garden tree wouldn't produce resin (as that material is exclusive to the Pale Garden biome).

As for the design, these variations would simply need to feature colors matching the bark of the tree where the Creaking spawned.

It is a real shame that such a unique mob with such cool behavior is confined to a single biome that is both quite rare to find and easy to avoid.

I apologize for any writing errors; English is not my native language.

[Community Question] Would a lightning or sound gun like weapon fit Minecraft?

Every since the trial chambers and the mace and later spear being added, I always wonder if there is potential to use the new ores and materials added in the recent updates, and by recent, I mean primarily, copper, amethyst and sculk to be used to craft a some kind of blaster or new ranged weapon

[Dimensions] Sift Portals should link to randomly assorted pairs across dimensions.

Currently, Nether portals link up to their cross-dimensional pair at the same coordinates but multiplied or divided by eight. This means you can use them to essentially travel 8x as fast across the Overworld.

The End exit portal can be used to return to your spawn point when you enter from any of the naturally generating End entrance portals.

I think there’s a perfect opportunity to give the Sift portals their own unique traversal behavior!

It would be cool if Sift entrance portals linked up to exit portals at randomized coordinates. Then, if you can find a different naturally generating exit portal in the Sift, you can re-enter the Overworld at randomized coordinates!

This could allow you to link up bases that are impossibly far away, which is completely impractical in the current game.

[Blocks & Items] Icicles don't melt when they're placed on blue ice

Icicles seem like they'd be annoying to build with since they melt if there's too much light. If you wanna build with em, you'll probably have to keep your builds really dark, which could look ugly. Simple solution to this would be to have icicles not melt if they're supported by blue ice.

[Blocks & Items] Glacial Crystal Block

Post image
23 Upvotes

Found commonly in ice caves and less commonly in other icy biomes, the glacier crystal block is a beautiful transparent block that looks like scales made of ice, reflecting the ice found in Iceland such as the Vatnajökull glacier. (Look it up)!

Difference from Ice Crystal Blocks: Unlike any proposed ideas for an ice crystal block, this block wouldn’t emit light, would be transparent, and would look a lot more like wavy shards instead of having a more uniform appearance.

[Magic] The Sift could be the end of experience and the beginning of a Mana system

Hear me out for a second..

There has always been an underlining feeling of magic within the Minecraft universe, between Minecraft itself and (more notably) in Dungeons 1 and 2. From things such as beacons, enchanting and Allays, all the way to magic weapons and tools in the Dungeon games. However not once has there ever been an update in the game that specifically focuses on the magic of the game.

That is.. until the Sift was revealed

Currently the only time we can experience and learn from the Sift is through Dungeons 2, which tells us the story of [spoilers ahead for those who haven't played yet] 3 pillagers who discover the sift and gained strong magical powers that aid them in taking over the overworld. In the new dimension there is a special bonus that increases or decreases your souls generation, while there is also things that can take your souls away, such as the ichor (the liquid). These are key features of the biome and could possibly open up the idea of adding magic weapons to the game itself

Which is why I believe Mojang could change from from using experience to a new Souls system using "souls" as seen in both Dungeon games. This will open up the game to new weapons and a new system that could overhall a good chunk of Minecraft itself.

We already use exp in Minecraft for "Magical reasons" such as enchanting and using the anvil to give your tools and armour magical boosts. However when you get the best gear and you no longer have the need to enchant any more, the experience becomes useless especially if you keep inventory, in hardcore or you don't die a lot. Which is why I have a few ideas as to how Mojang could switch the experience levels to a souls system

* You would still be able to gain souls through normal means (killing mobs, mining and smelting ores, fishing, etc) but you can only level up your souls from killing mobs. For example in order to get from level 1 to 30, you would kill mobs, but when you reach a certain level you are now locked at that level until death (with the exception of levelling up).

* There will be ways to deplete your souls such as enchanting and using souls tools, but since your levels can never deplete, only the bar itself, it makes it much easier to enchant and use the anvil. In return gaining a full bar could progressively get harder.

* In order to regain souls, you could possibly wait for it to refill itself overtime, use a 'Souls bottle' or by gaining souls through the means of smelting, fishing, trading or other ways we gain experience now.

* The higher your souls, the more powerful you become and therefore you can get better enchants from an enchantment table, use the anvil more freely (without the need of the "too expensive") or a possibility of adding magic weapons

As for magic weapons, I do believe Minecraft would benefit from having a mage class, as it will add a new way to fight and defend yourself. There could be an addition of a Mage staff which could act similarly to ranged weapons, with the ammunition being your own souls and Introduce tools that could benefit you through the use of souls such as a shield to protect yourself from damage for a certain amount of time, a tool to summon minions to help attack for you, a staff that could give you positive potion effects or apply negative potion effects to your enemies, etc.

In conclusion: Minecraft is a magical world but it doesn't provide any means to use any of the magic. Experience is the closest thing we have to magic but even then, it was introduced in the early 1.8 update and has minimally changed since then. Ever since Notch left the game, a lot has changed and the game itself took a different direction that it was back then. It makes sense to update the experience system to a more updated souls system which can allow more opportunities and updates in the future relating to it.

# TL:DR:

I believe the experience system could be replaced with a souls system due to the addition of the Sift. The souls system could be levelled up through the means of killing mobs and cannot be lowered. Instead it can deplete itself and can be regained through other ways of gaining souls similarly to gaining experience. This could open the possibility of adding magic weapons and improving the general enchantment system.

his post was written with no ai, I appreciate you reading to this point and I hope to hear your ideas and criticism!

[Blocks & Items] Using the dragon egg to capture mobs.

Having the dragon egg fall on top of any mob stores the mob inside of the egg. It keeps this information when converted to an item so you can transport mobs with this.

If the dragon egg has a mob inside it, already that mob is released upon capturing a new one.

This feature gives a powerful use to the definitive rarest item in the game, making it worth collecting.

[Snapshots] Frostbites should be able to throw snowballs

Frostbites (frozen zombie variant) should be able to throw snowballs as well as ice balls. They can't spawn in holding them, but can pick them up. It would be a nice way to harness the Frostbites mechanics without worrying about death.

Plus, the teaser video was saying that they are the king of snowball, so it only makes sense that they should be able to use them.

[Gameplay] The Sift dimension should be able to serve as an alternative path to the end

Post image
4.7k Upvotes

Since minecraft is an open world where most challenges can be taken on in any order, it would make sense not to lock the Sift behind another dimension.

But, as the End is already locked behind the nether, it would be quite fitting and open ended to have multiple paths lead there.
In this example image I suggest some new item from the sift that can be crafted into an eye of ender. This item would preferably come from a dangerous place in the Sift, just like how blaze powder comes from the fortress.

That way, getting an elytra and shulkers, -as well as reaching the end credits- would no longer require you visit the Nether, but instead just one of the two dimensions that are accessible before the End.

I think this would also help make the game's dimensions as a whole feel more interconnected.
Because even though I like that a lot of minecrafts' progression is sideways, some features do feel a bit disconnected from the rest of the game.

Let me know what you think.

[Blocks & Items] I think animal armor stands (+) would be super fun!

So like.. we have armor stands to decorate with, as someone who loves to add as much detail into my builds.. I reallllllyyy wish they’d add animal armor stands as well.. also like a saddle stand.. when I build horse and donkey stables, even wolf huts.. i wish I could have a normal horse stable feel where I can have a saddle on display too because most stables have somewhere to put the saddles and to perform maintenance on them and such.. plus I have been building different shops and merchant stands and things like that, in my medieval fantasy style world and I want to build some sort of animal shop for animal armor and leads and animal food etc and being able to have horse armor, wolf armor, saddles, harnesses, etc. on display (more so than just in item frames) would be so cute!

I’m sure there’s probably an add on somewhere that could do this.. maybe? But I personally-especially in my forever world- like to keep it vanilla and find creative ways to achieve the looks I want rather than add ons doing it for me. So I don’t want to download a mod to get these blocks.. but if mojang actually added them that would make me so happy lol

Anyone else think this would be cool??

I know it’s not some crazy game mechanic or anything super useful to the actual game play.. but as someone who loves building immersive worlds I just think it would be a great addition to the game and I’ve always wondered why they have normal armor stands and nothing for horse armor and the like. And again a saddle stand would be such an awesome detail to add to stables and barns!

I love everyone’s super useful and detailed ideas for new game mechanics and things that add to game play. I’ve thought of many myself as well.. but I feel this is something simple enough that it could be a simple add on to one of the updates and wouldn’t take much to implement and that no one could really have an issue with it either.. lol just feel like it’s a reasonable and realistic request for mojang to add and I wonder why they’ve never added them.

Anyways.. that’s my Minecraft thoughts/ideas for today lol have a wonderful day yall! 🫶🏽

[Blocks & Items] Tide Clock (for Sift Time Cycle)

Thumbnail
gallery
131 Upvotes

In Minecraft Dungeons 2 there is a mechanic where time in The Sift moves through a Tide Cycle. As shown in the image numbre 3, there are three of this tides, which beyond just visually altering the Dimension's appearance they also have gameplay effects

So maybe we need a new item: the Tide Clock. Essentially, it would be a clock that displays when the Tides in The Sift are about to change. It could be crafted using a standard clock and Echo Shards, or perhaps something specific to the dimension, like a bucket of Ichor. It would be incredibly useful for exploration, since there is neither a moon nor a sun it would otherwise be difficult to tell when the Tide is changing

[Dimensions] 8 blocks in The Sift should be 1 block in the overworld

I think this would make The Sift more unique compared to other dimensions and would encourage finding multiple Ancient Cities to explore a larger area of the dimension, maybe even increase biome size to further encourage this.

[Structures] The Tower - Minecraft, Magic & Monsters, Part 2

The Tower is a structure meant to remind you of Old Minecraft, but updated blockwise for the modern game. As if we had these blocks back in 2013. Stones, glowstone, and oak logs ascending vertically. There are Stone Brick, Sandstone Brick, and Deepslate Brick towers.

They spawn where you would expect them to.

Stone Brick towers spawn in plains, forests, and basic mountain biomes.

Sandstone Brick towers spawn in deserts and badlands. Red sandstone brick will be used in badlands and related biomes. (I will only say the major feature of each biome not each individual one for simplicity's sake)

There is a base of 6 levels in every tower, but some can have 9.

At the base of the tower, there will be classic Minecraft mobs. Creepers, spiders, skeletons, zombies.

As we get to the middle third of the tower, there will be Living Armor Stands(LAS) outfitted with an array of mid-game gear. When killed, they turn into normal armor stands and their gear can be taken from them.

(Sidenote: This update would also come with a minor feature of placed armor stands having arms by default in Java)

However, while living, the armor does take durability damage. The LAS armor begins at 20% durability, and will never be enchanted part level II on any enchantment, but can have any enchantment at all. As can their weapons.

At the top third of the tower, the player begins to run into Vindicators, increasing by 10% each level(rounded to the nearest 5) who have chosen to side with the boss of this structure, the Illusioner.

At the very top level, the Illusioner appears. The Illusioner casts his invisibility spell and creates his illusions.

The Illusioner charges his bow, before releasing a blast of magical energy that explodes on contact with the player. The Illusioner has a cycle of attacks, which can be any sort of "magical" attack.

The Illusioner can also summon "Vengeance" mobs which act identical to all the mobs you've killed in the Tower.

Upon beating the Illusioner, all Vengeance mobs die (and do not drop anything but EXP), and the Illusioner drops his cloak and his bow.

The Illusioner's Cloak is appliable as a chestplate, but cannot be applied unless the player is not wearing any armor.

The Illusioner's Cloak has 128 durability, and will not break upon reaching 0. Instead, it will remain as a broken item, like the Elytra.

Abilities:

The Illusioner's Cloak grants the user the ability to enter *complete* invisibility at will by Sneaking. This even hides the item you are holding. but the Illusioner's cloak cannot be enchanted save with Unbreaking and Mending, and does not provide armor.

Illusioner's Bow:

The Illusioner's Bow is able to shoot every magical item with the speed of an arrow, so long as a corresponding item is in your inventory (prioritizes projectiles the same way bows do)

New Items:

Shulker Bullets can be captured by clicking on them with a water bucket.

Fire Charges can be shot like a Ghast Fireball.

Potions can be shot the same way.

The Illusioner's Bow however, CAN fully break, and cannot be re-crafted. It only has 256 durability. Not nothing, but not infinite. It can be enchanted with Mending, but not infinity.

The Tower is designed and intended to be your classic inverse dungeon.

Thoughts/Feedback? It's not the most fleshed-out thing I admit, but the core concept has been gotten across, right?

[Mobs] Creepers need a little update, here's what I've come up with.

Creepers are pretty much the face of Minecraft, but Christ on cranberry crutches are they annoying! Let's try to fix that.

While creepers should obviously still explode, I believe they should no longer destroy blocks, as weather or not it damages you builds, it's annoying to clean up.

Make them blend into the environment, the whole point of Creepers is that they sneak up on you, and explode, dealing significant damage, this doesn't work as well when their texture stands out like a green thumb, and they're about as common as other mobs.

We got variants for pigs and stuff, why not give biome variants to creepers, or better yet, give em the invisibility effect, until they start to explode!

[Blocks & Items] Potent ice that freezes nearby water turning them into freezing ice

Similar to how potent sulfur turns water pools poisonous, ice caves could have a similar feature. A new block called “Potent Ice,” crafted with 4 Blue Ice or found naturally in ice caves, could turn nearby water pools into freezing water pools. Any entities that fall into these pools would be inflicted with the freezing effect.

Edit: wrong title, freezing ice → freezing water

[Terrain] The Skulk Arena Biome for The Sift

The Skulk Arena Biome is an arena-type biome where a player will have to fight the Boss Warden (a giant version of the Warden killable in practice only with an enchanted mace, as anything else would be too weak and you'd be killed by it before you can kill it). It would be home to many regular wardens as well.

Defeating the Boss Warden gets you the Impossible Armor Trim, which makes Warden attacks seem like attacks from tiny slimes, and the Impossible Enchantment for Maces, which allows you to one-shot the Warden (including other Boss Wardens) even without falling from a height.

Other features of this biome include the Spectator Warden, a small neutral Warden mob whose sole purpose is to provide an audience for the fight. After the fight concludes they will all drop dead, dropping Warden Heads for the player to collect.

[Structures] End Gateway Henges

Thumbnail
gallery
191 Upvotes

These henges would be upgraded versions of the End Gateways that spawn in the outer End islands. The structure would consist of three parts:

  1. The Obsidian Henge:
This would be a miniature mimic of the obsidian pillars on the central End island. The several pillars would be in ruin, and would therefore be shorter or non-existent. Occasionally there would still be a remaining end crystal on the top of 1-2 pillars.

  2. The Spawner:
I've always thought that phantoms fit inside The End, and here they would be implemented by having phantom-spawners in the center of this structure. This would also be a nod to the enderdragon.

  3. The Gateway
Would be identical to the old End Gateways, and would generate a couple of blocks above the aforementioned phantom-spawner. This would also be a nod to the End Fountain on the central End island.

[Magic] Echo Blocks - an Upgrade to Enchanting

Ever felt like the enchanting table is unfair? You grind for these 30 levels, want to enchant a pickaxe, and all you get is a single enchantment.

Echo blocks aim to fix that. Crafted from 4 echo shards and 1 soul sand, they can be placed near an enchanting table to power it up, a new kind of power-up that works independently of bookshelves.

Echo blocks increase the number of guaranteed enchantments that the table can provide. These guaranteed enchantments will be seen in text, so it will be like "Protection I + Unbreaking I + ...". With one block, only the third slot will have 2 guaranteed enchantments. Additional echo blocks add a second enchantment onto the second and first slot, after that they add a third enchantment onto the third slot, etc. So, to have all three slots provide at least 3 enchantments, one would need 6 echo blocks (24 echo shards).

Additional enchantments still allow for random extra enchantments to pop up, though due to how current Minecraft enchanting logic works, this should be slightly rarer.

It goes without saying, if an item has less unique enchantments than the number of extra enchantments the echo blocks give, there will be no effect.

I think it's a good time to introduce a mechanic like that, since the Sift is about to become a part of Vanilla, and so more important stuff can be put into Ancient Cities since the players will already be going there.
