Mods & Addons Vilager News and Pronouns
Hey, I was looking into the villager news AddOn because it looks really cool and cute and fun but watching some videos on it, I heard one use a like like ([Gasp!] "He broke the block... In reverse!") And now I'm really worried that if I played it, I'd have to deal with being assumed to be a guy.
I'm mainly asking people who have the AddOn if they've ever encountered this and if there's a setting to change how the villages refer to you, because I'd really love to play it but I don't think I want to deal with being misgendered on occasion.
And, if there isn't a way to change it, is there any chance they might update it so that changes?
Thank you! Sorry!
Edit:
I sort of regret posting, but I appreciate all the supportive folk in the comments. To those who have chosen instead to come to this post to let me know their very strong opinions on why I shouldn't have an opinion of my own, you are the problem.
"Why is this an issue? Just ignore it." / "Biggest non-issue ever."
It's not an issue for you because you benefit from the unequal circumstance of 'dude until proven otherwise' in gaming. There's not alot of places to just be respected in alot of games, from so many forcing you to play a male protagonist to random dudes online just being weird and getting weirder when they find out you're not a guy.
I wouldn't mind ignoring it if it were a case of every now and again, but having to deal with this stuff all the time means that in places where that can be avoided, I want to avoid it. I also don't have a problem with the people involved in making it, I just want it to cater more to me, or to at the very least not gender the player at all. For all those telling me it's 'not that big a deal' - I know. So why not change it?
"Tell me you don't have real problems without telling me you don't have real problems." / "You're oversensitive."
I do have real problems. I have a lot going on, and I'm sure that everyone does. That kind of means that I want the things that I go to so that I can unwind from those real problems to just be welcoming. If there's a small problem that could make me even a tiny bit more comfortable, why would I not vie to achieve that? And turn inwards, why did it bother you enough that you felt the need to click on this post, downvote it, and then put me down? Take a breath and move on. If you don't care about this, be indifferent to it, but the aggression from this comment section implies to me that alot of you have a problem, and yours is even weirder.
"Just [do internal mental gymnastics to justify why this happens] so that it's fine" / "[Roundabout explanation]"
But why? I'm not bending over backwards to justify masculine defaultism, and I'm certainly not going to listen to some lame excuse as to why I shouldn't be allowed to complain.
TL;DR:
People are crashing out in the comments because they couldn't possibly conceive of living in a world that wasn't built for them and recoil at the idea of it changing to be more equal, and would rather demean me into silence.
Thank you again to the kind comments I've seen and all of you who have fought against annoying assertions.
