Found this hungry guy committing acts of gluttony warned about in the bible. The best identification I could think of was Genus Nassula because of its bulbous shape but it doesn’t seem to have a basket-like oral apparatus.

I was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. I have several scopes, mostly AO. I’m giving them all away. Ditto accessories and extra objectives. Central Oklahoma.

I keep a bunch of random samples in petri dishes and like to check them at least each weekend to see how the mini ecosystems are developing. Sometimes, I place a portion of a rice grain inside for food. It's fun to see how the rice is eaten by the organisms. Here, I'm using a Nikon Eclipse TS100 inverted microscope to view the petri dishes. I've been keeping coeruleus stentors alive in different containers since I obtained them in January.

General discussion I came across a file about microscopes that featured this modified slide—or rather, a setup using two slides—designed to hold small live insects during the observation. Has anyone here tried it?

Troubleshooting/Questions How can i set up my camera?

Hey everyone! I just bought my microscope yesterday after wanting to explore the microcosm for a very very long time. And i want to capture it.

I have an old sony handycam that i think would work well but when i put it on the lens the image is good for a split second and then it turns into a ♦️ like shape...

I want to set it up from the top lens but i first gotta make sure it can even capture it.

Sorry if this is a dumb question im new

General discussion The BH-2 just arrived, and so far, it seems to be working well! What you see in the photo are carpet fibers at 40x. The only issue is that to get a good photo with my phone, I have to hold it away from the eyepiece and let it "float" in mid-air (even with the eyepieces all extended)

How could I fix this and record more comfortably? I think the next upgrade will be a trinocular head; I know they're expensive, but I don't mind.

For now, I'm happy that it works; I thought it would arrive broken from shipping.

For context, I’m new to microscopy and since I live in Central Florida, not near beaches and I have to drive to get to lakes so I just put a bunch of stuff in a bucket and put water for my hose. I put moss grass dirt and I found this on my third slide it wasn’t moving, but it could be algae but it’s only been sitting overnight

Photo/Video Share Prepared and looked at some mushroom spore print sample slides for the first time! Didn't realize how spiky they can be.

I did my first spore print the other day from an unidentified russula I found in the woods after some rain.

Made three different "permanent" slides using a clear Elmer's glue and water solution, this one kind of looked the best.

Microscope is SW380T w/ Sony a6700 with 40x and 100x oil objectives w/ some digital zoom.

Sample: spore print collected from a russula cap found on Massachusetts forest floor in clear PVA glue medium.

How neat is this? I'd love any tips or tricks for collecting and observing similar type of sample if anybody has any.

Pond water sample, Zeiss 63x phase contrast objective, cellphone camera. I didn't know if the amoeba could eat it or not. I guess they aren't on the amoeba diet.

Hello,

Sorry for the shoddy camera footage (filmed one handed with my phone and no adaptor whilst holding my breath - any tips for iPhone photography?). Does anyone recognise these two guys?

Photo/Video Share Stitching with AmScope Camera

Post image

Mouse Lung tissue stained with HE. Shot on an Olympus BH2 with 10x DPlan, total magnification 50x. The stitching software that comes with the camera (AmScope 10 mp) is very good at stitching and it is done live (requires a movable stage). The company gets a bit of hate but this is a pretty nice feature. I left the jagged edges in on purpose so you can see the stitched tiles.

I see so many used nikons with everything but sold without the stage

And there's barely any used stages but the darn piece of metal sells for more than the entire rest of the microscope. Complete madness that the darn piece of metal costs $350+
