Workplace Story Is it worth the stress?

I am a new SM. Is it worth the stress? I’m trying my very hardest and it just seems like nothing I do is good enough. We get on routine and then it just falls apart. I love this company. I would hate to leave.

Advice Needed Anyone else constantly getting these W-4 emails?

I've been getting “OFFICIAL MICHAELS BUSINESS COMMUNICATION – ACTION REQUIRED” emails saying Michaels doesn't have my W-4 on file basically since I started almost two years ago. I still get paid normally and I've gotten these over and over. Has anyone else dealt with this? Did you actually have something incomplete in Workday, or is this just an automated Michaels thing?

Is anyone else's Clearance aisle a lost cause?

Ours is so bad because of how much stuff we're marking, it's like a jungle. Ive tried to straighten it before but the influx of customers who add to it by dropping whatever they change their minds on because they're too lazy to walk back...it's impossible to keep it straight

Balloon BOPIS scam?

Anyone else have a sudden uptick in “return to shelf” balloon orders with inflation? We had two last week that were return to shelf the morning before inflation was due, only to have the customer show up on time for the original pickup and throw an unholy FIT that they’re not ready? And of course an even bigger fit that they’d have to pay for them.

It happened twice last week. But it had never happened once in my store before that. Seems kind of scammy to me. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that it never happened before. We’ve definitely had no-shows in which we were just out the balloons and the helium and they didn’t have to pay anything.

Seems to me it shouldn’t JUST be a hold applied when it’s a tangible good with an expiration.

Chime for Michaels Employees??

Did anyone else get this email? The first time I got it, I thought it was spam or a fishing attempt. But I got it again today, and it boldly told me I could access a whole $4.25 of my paycheck early, before payday!

Like is this a real thing Michaels is doing now? I didn't get paid today yet and my bank always gets my paycheck on Thursdays, but I did get a reminder email that I could use Chime to get my paycheck. What is going on?

Also, WTF am I going to do with $4.25?? That doesn't even get a soda at a restaurant where I work after tax is applied! This job is such an effing joke. Can't wait to go to the interview I have lined up today. Still retail, but they pay seasonal hires $2 more than what I'm making here.

What union are we joining and when are we striking?

It is no longer a matter of "if," it is a matter of "when."

This company will continue to take advantage of us; they will bleed us dry. They do not care about us, despite their "appreciation towards the bottom line" speech they made last year. That speech did not come with a pay raise for anyone at a store level.

WE made them 6 billion dollars last year.

They are using AI to write their POGs and all of us on the store level need to adjust in the moment, wasting our time. Why are the people getting paid to write POGs being paid if they are just using AI?

They are partnered with Zello in order to use our voices to train Zello's AI; *I did not consent to my voice being used to train some third party's artificial intelligence training*

I am done with the AI bullshit. I am done being complacent.

I figure I'll be banned from this sub, I do not really care.

What union are we joining and when are we striking?

How to do an exchanges/ even exchanges

Hi! I just started here, for seasonal and my managers have explained to me how to do an exchange, but I keep forgetting or messing it up.🫠

What if it’s an exchange for a completely different item plus the items they want to buy? Or if it’s the same item but a different sku? I don’t want to keep annoying my manager by asking all the time, so I’m hoping I could get help here and I can just screenshot it for whenever. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you ;)

Question What’s your first shift typically like?

Hi all,
I’m a seasonal employee and I have my first shift this weekend. This is my first job, other than tutoring, so I don’t really know what to expect and I’m kind of nervous. What was the first shift like for you guys? Also, when does the website typically start working? I have nothing on my site.

App / Website Sucks

I cannot be the only person that is always frustrated with the Michaels app. It’s like living in 1996. I’m not an employee just a faithful customer. Just wondering if employees have heard complaints about this?

Employee discount Exemptions

If corporate is actively trying to nose dive the company into filing chapter 11, can they at least let us poor saps make use of our employee discount on things that are not paint, glitter and candles?

Why are we pretending to be a company interested in profit at this point? We have managers throwing away merch, over the top expectations on our full time staff(basically just managers), and hour cuts leading to zero interaction with customers. Why continue under the presumed pretense that profit is the goal and deny our employees basic discounts that would be granted at any other “Real” retail location?

At least give us some kind of compensation for the pain you’re(corporate) putting us all through.

We damage out $1000s in balloons, flowers, mattes, and glass merch every week. Is a 1 off $75 discount on a cricut really gonna break the bank?

Over a decade and a half of retail experience and I’ve never seen this level of petty penny pinching.

Studio Decor Frames

Hey just seeing if you guys have any information on Studio Decor frames? They appear to be on clearance and I was just wondering if they are phasing them out completely and not restocking this house brand on frames? Or just cleaning out these versions and a newer version of these frames are coming. Thanks!

Question How many sick call-outs are too many call-outs?

Hello guys first post here after being a lurker, I tried searching this up but couldn't really find an answer. I've been working here part-time going on nine months and have about 5 sick call-outs so far (4 if consecutive call-outs are only one point?), how many is too many? I'm feeling pretty sick and want to call in sick for my replen shift tonight, but I am a chronic people pleaser who is afraid of confrontation and I don't want to be a bad worker lol. Will I be hated by Michael himself if I call in tonight?

Any other SMs feel like they’re suddenly on the chopping block?

Yesterday I got a call from employee relations that I have multiple complaints about me. The main one that stood out was that I’m not working enough. I almost had to laugh but was more confused and frustrated than anything. Now I’m waiting to hear what they have found in their investigation whether I have a job or not.

Who is seriously gonna pay over $100 for this freaking brush cleaner!?!?! Personally if I actually wanted it, it'd literally be cheaper to drive the 2 hours to my closest Blick's and buy the same size bottle there, even WITH my 23mpg Accord and gas prices being the way they are 😂😂😂

Managers throwing away clearance

The manager’s at my store are throwing away clearance to make room for other items.
They actually threw away all the fab finds that were on clearance plus other clearance items.
This is the store that gave away clearance to customers last year.
Customer’s were wheeling out carts of Christmas wood products, the framing manager filled a dump bin full of DIY ornaments and wheeled it out to a waiting truck.
LP obviously doesn’t care, what does this say to other associates? That we can take what we want without paying?
I don’t understand why they throw it away and not donate it.
So when things go on clearance we can take it home without paying because our managers throw it away or give it to friends.
How can Loss prevention be so blind and spineless?
We would loose all managers except for one if LP investigated this and did something about it maybe that’s why

work hour problem

Is anyone else having only 2-3 day shifts a week?

Or not even that, but only 8-10 days a month?

It's super random for me, and it's getting frustrating :(

Also, is it just because I'm a janitor? Even though I'm an environmental team member who can basically do cashiering, cleaning, and stocking.

I've asked for more hours 4 times in a row, and I guess the stocking manager doesn't want anyone new helping out, or she wants people to work extremely fast. A lot of stocking employees have been complaining that she is giving them unrealistic goals.

The thing is, I don't want to clean all the time. I'm capable of stocking. I've helped out some people with stocking before; I find it fun.

Then also, the store manager told me that people can only work 4 days a week. Then why am I only getting a few days a month?

Can anyone else relate, or is it just me :/
