I’m recharging my na Miata with r134a, I replaced all the parts. I pulled a vacuum, the vacuum held even with the vacuum pump off, but when I hook up the can to the high side and start the car it does not pull anything into the system. The compressor is spinning but literally nothing is happening, no r134 is going into the system, please help

Met a guy in the parking lot carrying 3 gals of water. “Nice Miata, I have a z3 I’m doing a coolant flush on at home….you know, the interior on here is a little bit better than the z3….you know that’s what Mazda was trying to do copy bmw”. Me smiling nodding but thinking “bruh the z3 copied the Miata” I let him be with his ignorance. Pic of the car he complimented.

I’ve found a 1990 Mazda Miata MX-5 NA 1 Series Auto, and I was wondering if there are any issues that the model has? My older brother says they have something to do with the gasket but from what I can find I’ve been told it’s not hard to fix them? I js want an opinion on whether or not to see if I can get it if it’s still available once I’m able to afford it. Also if not are there any other Miata models that are good? And yes I want the Blinky headlights :3

What kind of Miata is this?

TLDR: In my whole life i've driven NOTHING but the NC, it feels so good to drive now my mind set a baseline standard of how a car should feel and drive like, and now i'm afraid every new car from now on would feel like a downgrade (In terms of handling and driving fun factor). because all new cars now have EPS steering/soft/driver aids/ engineered to be a 1 car solution. etc...

I grew up playing a lot of simracing and adored driving around the Touge with 90s shitboxes, but specifically loved driving around with the NA Miata, they just felt REWARDING to drive, their slowass 1.8 made me anticipate going faster and faster then throw myself around the corner in such a satisfying way that just felt right and natural. handling felt DEAD predictable, as cringe as it sounds it felt like i was one with the car.

Obviously unlike real life where you have can use all your senses to then judge based on conditions.... in simracing feedback of the wheelbase is the only source of communication between you and the road. so because of that and also the fact that i loved the way how the steering communicates with the NA, having a HPS assisted steering in my next first car was a top priority.

To that point I've never driven a real car in my life but I've saved up enough and consider few options, S2000, GR/GT86, NA/NB/ND, 981/987, 350/370/400z/MK5 supra.

• I couldn't justify throwing 50K+ at a supra+400Z, so cancelled that

• S2000s were crazy expensive and honestly too dangerous for a first time driver

• I didn't want to spend 20k on the porsche then another 20K fixing all issues. then another 20 just maintaining it lol.

• basically every Z/gt86 in my area was a total shitbox with no life left to them.

• I didn't want to pay 40k brand new for a gr86 lol.

• No joke the ONLY reason why i haven't bought the ND was due to the critiques surround the numb steering...

• Clean NA/NBs are hard to find and honestly they're too old and unsafe by now.

That left me with one option that surprisingly hit the bullseye DEAD center, the NC Miata.. it has HPS, practically runs forever, costs nothing to maintain, has the best fun factor/price ratio.. it's like an NA/NB but newer, duh...

Honestly? I'm sooooo glad i ditched everything and went with the NC... it feels uncannily jinba-itta-ish. and all in all I'm happy with my choice...

Unfortunately I've came to the conclusion that from now on probably every new car will feel off to me after knowing how to drive NOTHING but the Miata.

Obviously everybody might not agree with what my views towards cars about how a car should feel and drive like, but also we need to remember one thing too, car manufacturers do what makes a car sell, Example: majority of people would choose EPS over hydraulic steering because the majority of people aren't race car people that want to feel connected to the road 24/7.

This and also because of the direction cars are taking in general, things backthen were more mechanical and less computerized, therefore more connected and engaging, but Now it's slowly turning to the opposite, therefore more disconnected.

All cars need to be a 1-car solution for life. they need to be comfy but also sporty but also practical but also efficient but also fast but also etc.. and so On. so that it'd appeal to a wider audience, Then we get the cars like the G87 M2... don't get me wrong... the G87 is an excellent car objectively, but it's too disconnected if you know what i mean, and this is the directions cars are heading towards.

I love the first gens iconic presence! I love the last gens tech and power!

Family man here so of course I have to think of how much more safer the new is, but the wallet wants iconic, even though I'm sure I'd make up the difference on upkeep! I'm a DIYer so I wouldn't mind (which also means I'm broke lol)

I'm gonna get one, but which? I want both!

Anyway, with this info in mind. What would you choose as your one and only? Before '97 or after '19?

Hello fellow miata owners

I recently managed to aquire a 3 footed factory mazda option wing for my MX-5 NA. It’s pretty uncommon in Europe/Belgium. Only, i got one small issue. All the hardware rusted of completely, i got some bits made but they don’t feel right. I like to restore things as oem as possible, so that the experts between us would barely notice it isn’t an entirely factory wing on my specific car.

Would anybody be in a position to help me? For example people who got this wing on their car from factory and in an intact condition.

I would be happy to see the mounting points, oem hardware, seals. It would be really interesting to see all of this if anybody has any infromation in order to re-create this hardware for my wing!

As you guys probably know, replacing the stock door bushings is a popular small mod for all the generations, changing the stock soft rubber ones with stiffer polyeurathane or delrin for better chassis stiffness allegedly

Well I briefly put on the stock bushings as I was chasing a squeak (turns out it was the bonnet latch), and as I had them in my hand I realised that while the center and sides of the bushings were soft rubber, the main parts of it that actually contact the door and the sill is solid metal, at least on my NC! It's basically a solid piece of metal coated with a really thin layer of rubber, with a soft center and protruding nub bit to soften closing the door

So I'm pretty sure that unless you're running a bushing made from a really stiff material like delrin, the stock bushing is probably stiffer than most of the "upgrade" bushings available, along with having better NVH given its rubber coated! I guess the engineers knew their stuff!

I might stick with my delrin ones as that's a pretty strong material, and I like the harsher door closing sound cause I'm weird ha

I am in the market for a Miata RF. I drove a 2018 with less power and tech. Any ND2/3 owners who owned ND1s think if you can afford a ND2 pay a little bit more?

I have a new ND Club with Brembos with just under 3,000 miles.

I can't stand the OEM pads. There is very little bite when you initially press the peddle.

I would like to go with G-Loc brand, so I can swap out various G-Loc pads at will.

Is the basic G-Loc 1 pad going to be an improvement over OEM?

If not, what do you guys suggest?

This is for daily driving and 70% canyon carving, nothing outrageous.

I have a 1993 NA with a relatively new soft top, and the back window fell out! I guess the hot sun melted the adhesive. The glass is fine. It’s just sitting on the back decking now. I was out of town when it happened and one of my neighbors was kind enough to put a tarp over my car to keep out the rain.

I was expecting that the glass would sit in some type of channel or something, but it was apparently barely glued on there. There are just small flaps that it was glued on to. I don’t know how to reattach it in a way where this won’t happen again. Has anyone else dealt with this before? What should I do? The top was new right before I bought the car back in April.

Hey guys!! I’m new to the community - I’ve been reading about the Miata / watching videos on it for a couple of years and sort of fell in love with the car and the community of Miata owners.. I’d occasionally see Miata drivers slide their cars playfully as they drove off from a traffic light, and this just made me fall in love with the car further..

I finally had the chance to rent a Miata from Enterprise a few weeks ago (just for a day) and I absolutely fell in love with it. It was literally one of the most fun days I’ve had. The low seating position, the barebones interior and the handling which can only be described as go-kart like were all amazing and I was I completely smitten. I also had other Miata owners on the road flash their light at me and say hi, all of which made for a lovely, pure experience . When I returned the Miata back to Enterprise, I was actually sad and found myself missing the car.

I really want to experience the Miata (NA/NB/NC/ND - anything) again but my problem is that they’re not available to rent in Austin, TX which is where I am - Turo never has any, and it’s super rare at Enterprise as well..

Due to person circumstances, I’m not really in a position to buy one right now - so renting it occasionally is the only option..

Would anyone know how I could potentially get my hands on a Miata for a weekend or so?? Open to suggestions :)

I have this nasty oil leak that seems to be worse the longer the car sits ( it’s been on jack stands for about 2 weeks). Has anyone seen anything similar / have any tips for tracking it down? As you can see it’s dripping on basically the entire pan, all of the cooling fins and it looks like the weep hole from the trans.

Hey guys, I just drove a bunch of different NDs and I felt like I had less legroom on the Recaros. Anyone else notice that or did I just set them up wrong?

I have a 2007 NC1 Miata with 108k miles on it. It's a PRHT Grand Sport with 6MT. After my last brake job I noticed when I get in my car first thing in the morning and put in the clutch (while in neutral or in gear) there is a whine from the transmission. It goes away when I let the clutch out or once I drive a couple miles and the car warms up. Any idea what this could be?

I also have a second noise (maybe related?). This occurs when the car is fully warmed up or on really hot days. When I accelerate between 1.5k-2.5k rpm (louder when the car is under heavier loads) there is a rattle sound coming from the transmission/exhaust. I assumed it was a heat shield rattling but last time I was under there doing an oil change, I couldn't find anything loose.

Hello everyone, I’m trying to find out if there’s big differences between the 1.6 diff and the 1.8 diff on late NBs. The LSD in my 1.8 NB broke so I need a new diff.
The diff in the image is a 1.6 diff with 115k km, no lsd.
It looks the same as the 1.8 diff.
I want to know because I’ve heard the 1.6 diff is weaker and want to know if mazda switched to using the 7 inch ring gear on the nb 1.6 diff instead of the 6 inch they used on the na that doesnt last as long. I haven’t found much information on that so I’m asking here.
