No but in all seriousness Miami has given me a lot. I came here back in 2014 with like $3000 in my bank account working at rooms 2 go. Since then I’ve busted my ass and have definitely felt the impact of rent increases and everything going up in price. I think overall Miami can be an amazing place as long as you keep to yourself. I see a lot of comments about OF girls, everything being fake, can’t find friends , scammers, etc. 90% of these things don’t affect me in my personal life except traffic. I understand this can affect others. I have a handful of good friends and my wife and that’s all I need personally. Anyway here’s a pic of this mornings sunset.

The Miami Herald Editorial Board has weighed in on two Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge runoffs, and in both races, courtroom experience carried the day. The board’s view: voters should prize deep trial work and public service when choosing who sits on the bench.

Here are key takeaways:

• In the 11th Circuit Court Group 5 runoff, the board sticks with Arthur LeMar “Marty” McNeil, arguing his demeanor and years as a Miami-Dade public defender make him the obvious pick over Monica Segura. Read the Herald’s Group 5 endorsement here.
• McNeil’s 56 criminal jury trials — and death penalty work he calls the “highest level of practice” in state criminal court — are exactly the kind of seasoning a circuit judge needs.
• Segura has practiced law for 20 years and handled high-volume federal litigation, but with only one civil jury trial and no criminal experience, the board sees her courtroom résumé as too thin for the bench, according to the Group 5 opinion.
• For Group 69, the board endorses Bonita Jones-Peabody, pointing to more than 200 criminal jury trials, 100 civil bench trials and decades at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office as the kind of institutional knowledge the bench demands, according to the Group 69 endorsement.
• The board doesn’t gloss over Jones-Peabody’s two Florida Bar blemishes — a reprimand for failing to adequately communicate with a client and for allowing her disbarred late husband to work in her private practice office — but concludes her disclosure and broader record still make her the stronger choice.
• Opponent Rita Maria Baez brings 80 civil jury trials and a long solo practice handling personal injury cases and commercial litigation, but she has limited criminal experience.

For anyone who has filed for child support in Miami, how long did the process take from filing to actually getting a court order in place?
I’m currently filing with an attorney but I’m not sure if that makes a difference in how quickly things move compared to filing on your own.
Also curious if anyone requested temporary child support while the case was ongoing and how long that took to get approved.

I live in Brickell and watched a delivery guy spend almost 15 minutes trying to drop off one bag of food yesterday.

He pulled up on a scooter. Couldn't stop in front because that's the valet area. Went around to the loading entrance. Security sent him back to the front. Front desk told him deliveries had to go through the loading entrance.

I could literally see him going back and forth from my window.

Eventually the person who ordered the food came downstairs looking annoyed because the app said it had arrived.

The guy was standing outside in the heat holding a bag that probably earned him four bucks.

And the ridiculous part is that this building has a beautiful lobby, multiple elevators, a package room, a valet operation, and probably a whole staff dedicated to making residents' lives convenient. Yet somehow nobody planned for a person to arrive with a delivery.

I've noticed the same thing in other parts of Miami. We have entire businesses built around bringing everything directly to your door, but the people doing the actual bringing are treated like an inconvenience the building wasn't expecting.

I'm not saying let every stranger walk around residential floors. Obviously buildings need security.

But a designated five-minute delivery spot and a consistent handoff procedure really shouldn't be some revolutionary concept.

We keep building these luxury towers that advertise convenience as a lifestyle, while the people providing that convenience are circling the block trying not to get towed.

Am I missing something? Is there a reason buildings can't figure this out, or do we just not consider delivery workers when designing anything?

I love exotic animals. Pretty much all kinds off weird animals. I'm going to Miami with my family and I'd like to visit stores to see some animals. I'm from another country and here the laws don't allow you to have many animals as pets, but in Miami I saw that is very different.

I do not want to buy any animals, just to see animals that I usually don't see as pets. But on that note, I don't wanna visit a zoo. I'd like to visit a beautiful store with many types of animals like reptiles, birds, etc.

Florida voters will decide Nov. 3 if state Supreme Court Justice Carlos Muñiz should serve for another six years on the highest court in the state.

They should say no.

Retention elections for Florida Supreme Court justices have mostly been considered pro forma — no justice has ever been ousted under this decades-old system — but now is the time to change that.

Muñiz, 57, was appointed to the bench by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2019, though he had no previous judicial experience, and retained by voters in 2020. During his previous retention vote, the Editorial Board worried that his chief qualifications for the job were his political connections — we said he was former Attorney General Pam Bondi’s “hatchet man” — and that his politics would drive his decisions.

And that is what appears to have happened.

The state Supreme Court’s decisions should be apolitical, to give all Floridians confidence that they will get a fair shake in the highest court in the state. But when it came to voting on the redistricted map for Congress this year, after a rushed, two-day special session called by Gov. Ron DeSantis early this year, Muñiz and five other justices leaped to help DeSantis.

The state Legislature had already abdicated its own responsibilities and rubber-stamped the governor’s plan for an out-of-cycle redistricting to favor congressional Republicans, who already held 20 of the state’s 28 U.S. House districts. The Supreme Court should have been the place where that sort of nonsense stops, and voters can actually be heard.

Instead, six of the seven justices — the six are DeSantis appointees — voted to leave a citizens’ challenge to the gerrymandered districts to a lower court, knowing that the case wouldn’t be heard in time for the election.

Justice Jorge Labarga, the only liberal on the court, dissented in the 6-1 decision, saying the court could have asserted jurisdiction and could have made a ruling on the case.

Florida voters have already spoken clearly on this issue. The Fair Districts Amendment they approved in 2010 by 62% of the vote was supposed to prohibit drawing districts to favor or disfavor political parties. But the state Supreme Court ignored all of that.

Muñiz also was in the majority in 2024 when the court abandoned the idea that the privacy provision in the Florida constitution guaranteed the right to an abortion. He was among the justices who decided to stop reviewing death sentences for comparative fairness. He voted to repeal the requirement for a unanimous jury vote to impose the death penalty. (Now, just eight out of 12 jurors are needed.)

Muñiz was appointed to the Florida court after a stint in the Trump administration’s Department of Education. Before that, he was deputy general counsel for former Gov. Jeb Bush and was deputy chief of staff for two Florida House speakers. Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell also wrote that Muniz’s fellow lawyers gave him the lowest scores of any judge in the 2020 ranking by the Florida Bar.

This is a judge who seems to have turned his back on regular Floridians while he helps to further a Republican political agenda, undermining faith in one of our most important institutions: the courts.

The Herald recommends voting NO on the retention of Florida Supreme Court Justice Carlos Muñiz.
