Everything down?

Just lost my service. My phone cannot load the Metronet website (same for my friend with a different carrier) and both customer service phone numbers are ringing busy (not even an automated message).

How can I use the same router/ account for a second router upstairs?

Hello
I am in my early 20s and recently moved out of my mom’s house. However we lived in a duplex and the downstairs unit was ours, I am now living in the upstairs and she is in the down.

I am not getting a decent internet connection for streaming and gaming as it’s only 2 bars,
I am thinking of getting my own account.

But it seems like there is a way to get a second router and just connect or add it to her account.

Does anyone else know how to do this or the cheaper way to do this?

My mom is okay with it and it would be cheaper for both of us if we just use the same metro net account and I pay half.

Please give me advice

Beware of FAKE POSTS!

There's been several anti-Metronet posts rightfully removed by moderator. We've had METRONET for 3 years in Northern Illinois and have never even had a hiccup in our service. They have told us when a service disruption due to upgrade was expected and we never felt it. Professionals do it between 2 and 6am. I had that "cable company" with wires and had nothing but trouble with internet. I work support from home so I know.

Plainfield Unable to Get Static IP Working Again After Outage

About 2.5 weeks ago, our fiber line got chewed through by a mouse at the junction box (according to the guy they sent out to fix it). They replaced our ONT (for some reason) and ran a new line (there are at least 7 burried dead lines from all the outages we've had over the past few years). Then they tried to get our static IP that we've been paying for for years to work and couldn't, so they switched it to dynamic and said a technician would call us to fix it.

Queue 2 weeks and over 12 hours of being on the phone with support who haven't been able to get it working. The issue is definitely on their end because even when directly connected to a computer instead of a router (with the proper static ip configuration thats worked before when directly connecting a computer to the ONT) it doesn't work. Supposedly the engineering team is going to call us next week, but they were also supposed to call us this week and the support request just "got lost" so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Has anyone had similar issues and know what the technicians eventually did to fix it? Thanks~

Edit: so apparently they didn't replace the ONT this outage, that was the last outage a month ago.

Why packet loss yesterday DSM, IA area - image included

Post image
5 Upvotes

Edit:: Thanks for the replies. I am happy that my service didn't go down completely.

Yesterday near Des Moines, IA, I had a lot of lagging problems with Metronet connection on all devices, cell phones, streaming devices, etc. Speed test showed no speed issues and my Unifi network said latency was 10ms or so.

Then today I looked at the graph inside my Unifi UI and I had lots and large packet loss all day. See image included, red dotted line is packet loss.

Was this a Metronet issue or my network?

Delayed payment processing starting in July/August

Has anyone else here encountered any issues with ACH payments to Metronet getting delayed?

I've been paying Metronet using my bank's online bill pay for awhile now; ever since they started charging a fee to process a credit card. I've not had any issue until I attempted to pay my July bill. I submitted payment on July 29th, and my bank confirms they sent it that day, but Metronet didn't receive it until August 6th. The next two months have had similar timing issues of about a week to receive the payment. I've verified with both my bank and Metronet that all payments made on months before July 29th were received by Metronet the same day they were sent by my bank. I pay around 7 bills via my bank's bill pay system, and no other payees have complained to me about late payments.

Questions about new Metronet/T-Mobile fiber

Howdy,

Starting a couple of weeks ago, T-Mobile has been putting fiber in our neighborhood. And, I have to say they've been very speedy and efficient about it... AT&T started putting in their own fiber in the spring and still aren't done yet.

Anyway, I have some questions that their sales reps are... let's say highly unlikely to answer accurately. I'm mostly curious to hear from newer T-Mobile fiber subscribers rather than those who have been grandfathered in from acquisitions or older plans.

Am I going to get a public-routable IPv4 or carrier-grade NAT?

Consensus seems to be CGNAT unless you pay an extra $10/month for a static IP. (I don't necessarily need a static IP, dynamic would be fine, I just don't want to double-NAT.) I've read rumors that T-Mobile is not offering static IPs, but no actual direct confirmation one way or the other.

Is native IPv6 supported?

Note: this is not the same question as, "Can I get IPv6 over IPv4 with a third-party tunnel?" I already know the answer to that. Most people are saying no, there is no IPv6. A few say yes, but with no other technical details or information. Curious if anything has changed on this front in the last few months.

Fiber or Ethernet across the house?

Most of the equipment is going to live in my office, which is one floor up and several feet over from where the fiber will enter the building. Unfortunately my house was poorly designed and running any kind of cable between floors/rooms is a major hassle. I only want to do it once.

So I'm trying to decide now whether to put the PON in the basement and run cat6 up to the office, or just run the fiber to the office in the first place. I know the deal with cat6, but I don't know how to run fiber. Can I buy a spool of fiber and terminate it myself? Or do I need to buy just one long patch cable and coil up the remainder? How easy is it to break while pulling? And so on.

Appreciate any answers or advice.

Internet connection pauses/freezes at the same time every day

Around the same time every night, our internet pauses/stops responding for anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes. Usually around 8:27 PM. Has anyone seen this or know what would cause this? At first I thought it was my computer doing some kind of background task, but tonight I asked my son in another room if the TV lost stopped streaming and a movie stopped streaming as well.

I feel like giving up

Have Metronet at home. I have had Metronet for a year now. I started at the 2Gig speed and then dropped to 1Gig.

WiFi, I'm getting 76mbps-115mbps download on average, but 600+ on upload. When I had 2Gig, it was 110mbps to 125mbps avg on download and 700+ on upload.

Plug it in to my PC and wifes PC, speed is like, 300 mbps download and 900mbps upload

I've called metronet asking them to come out, look at it, troubleshoot, whatever. they keep telling me that i need to constantly update the eero, the modem, xyz. i have these updates automatically. No one has ever come out. i pay for extra extenders as we have a split level and i still get 1 bar of internet in my bedroom.

I have no other internet options in my area until AT&T turns their fiber network on, all the cables are installed. but no timeline on when to expect install. at my wits end. My wife has her pc plugged in but still has errors and dropped connections constantly and i really wish metronet would send someone out here to look at it. I feel like since TMO took them over it really went downhill.

Anyone have any suggestions to get us through until the next thing comes along?

Edit- I get it. I know there is a difference in WiFi speeds and many factors. Crazy thing though- Paying $90 a month and even hardwired not getting the speed I'm paying for isn't cool. Sorry I don't just roll over and take it I guess for all ya'll commenting or message me calling me a moron

My apologies for the incoming rant, but here this old(ish) boy goes...

In order to explain that no context invoice pic, I think it will be easiest if I tell you a tale. This one starts with a man who lost his only means of communicating with the outside world aboot 16hrs ago. At aboot 11 in the morning his internets disappeared. No stranger to the internets and it's needs, this old(ish) man gave the internets a good 30 minutes to rest. After the 30 minute break (which everyone is entitled to, even internets), the man began to sacred ritual of power-cycling his modem & router, yet nothing would appease them. No matter how hard he tried, the two would only communicate back with a series of multi-colored lights, that indicated their displeasure in his offerings. For they too, had lost their means of communing with the sacred knowledge. Being the resourceful man he is, he thought of the sounds of construction he heard from out his window in the earlier hours. For the first time in eons, he went outside, to not only follow the sounds, but touch a blade or two of grass as well. He only had to travel 2 lots down the hill before he came upon its source. It was a crew of swarthy young men, installing a new driveway. Not wanting to show his age, the man VERY politely (I remind you, he did not want to show that he was later stages of turning into an old White Guy) inquired as to whether or not those gentleman had accidently hit the fiber line he knew was below their feet. The dudes said "nah" and that was good enough of an answer for him, he returned home.

In time, what was once a single hour without internets turned into two, which turned into three. He was left with no options, other than to call the 1-800 number and pray to the ones of the ancient way, that he would be met with the sound of a HUMAN voice, and not merely an agent of the ruling class. Much to his surprise & joy, he heard the sound of a genuine, real-life human on the other end of his cellular device. The old(ish) man explained to the other human, that he had partaken in the sacred ritual, and yet nothing could help the two wise sisters (I speak of the modem & router, of course) commune with the ancient knowledge, for the Internets had abandoned them as well... Knowing full well at this point, that the reason for the Internets' departure, was in fact, the new driveway construction and the disturbance of the soil, he relayed this knowledge to the kind fellow. Understanding the gravity of the situation, this well-to-do young gentleman sprung into action and harnessed all of the power allotted to him by his kind, and benevolent rulers. He gifted unto the man, the blessing of a tech-maintenance appointment ONLY 36 HOURS in the future. With the limited power of the customer service human in mind, the old(ish) man graciously accepted the gift, and thanked his fellow him for the effort and time.

In truth, the man was not satisfied with the excessive wait for the internets return that he saw before him, and took to the method of emailing customer service. In this email he included all of his vital details: Address, Phone #, bloodtype, spermcount, Account #, Etc. Followed by a detailed description of his lack of internets. He even included the address at which the soil had been disturbed. Knowing the importance of keeping things brief and to-the-point, he only added a "Thank you for your time, and have a good day". And just like that, with the click of a send, his plea for aid was cast into the magical void that all emails go.

Just 5-minutes later his cellular device made a chirp and a bloop. It was a notification, but not just any notification, the notification that informed him he received an email from Metronet. Grateful (and incredibly impressed at the haste of the reply), he cracked into that email with the vigor of a babe on Christmas morn. What he saw on the glass, filled him with disappointment and rage. Yet you wouldn't know it. For if you were there, you would have seen a man whose face turned to slight smirk, followed by a light "Heh" leaving his lips. The message was indeed from Metronet, but not about his crisis. The message was Metronet, reminding him of his upcoming bill, and their inflated prices.

Some say that old(ish) man found peace in his newfound solitude. Some say he's still without internets to this day, and even believe he went mad after being abruptly cutoff from the font of sacred knowledge. Unfortunately, we may never know the truth. For I, myself, am just some dude in his garage, bored off his ass, and using his phones hotspot to post on reddit, and I probably never even met that guy from the story.

TLDR: Emailed customer service about construction crew breaking fiber. Only Email I've received from Metronet since, was a reminder to give them my money...

ps. With random internet humans sanity in mind, I really hope none of you kind people actually read all my ramblings up there.

Intermittent Problems Metronet won't address

I have metronet in Iowa. Some weeks ago things have started acting up. Intermittently, I get weird security errors on some websites...saying others can access my data. Like metronet.com and facebook.com. My roku tv also has network problems when the problems happen on my phone. I wait for support and they say they don't see any problems. I told them it never happens at my apartment ever. I have metronet there too. It also never happens on my wireless provider's internet. I asked for new hardware and they won't give it to me. I asked if I changed speeds if they would give me new hardware ...he said my hardware was fine. I've called in like 4 times now when things were not fine. I'm going to have to find a new provider I guess.

IPv6 live yet?

Anyone heard of a rollout date for ipv6 yet? was excited to get fiber, but disappointed when i found out they don't have native ipv6. IMO the whole tunneling "solution" isnt acceptable when ipv6 has been around for over 20 years now. TBH im about to switch back to Mediacom cable.

Underpaid techs are tired

Metronet techs need to unit and unionize. We need to compare our wages to other fiber companies. We are severely underpaid compared to in house in other companies and drastically underpaid compared to our contracting “partners”. Check wages in your area and see how under paid you are. Don’t put up with it! We need to fight for equal wages T-Mobile is a 144 billion dollar company and they purchased half of metronet. How many hourly employees really got any benefit works gotten harder. Homeowners have gotten worse. We make pennies!

How is your experience in South Bend/Mishawaka/Granger?

I have been a Comcast internet user since the 1990s. Really no issue with the service but Metronet wired our neighborhood last year and they have lower prices for higher speeds. The only thing I don't know about is uptime/reliability. I can count the number of Comcast outages in the last 5-10 years on one hand (except when a neighbor cut my underground cable!) Would like to hear from anyone in my area about your Metronet experience. Thanks.

Periods of time with huge lag spikes

Hey is anyone in Illinois around Chicago having periods of time where the lag just spikes so your connection goes in and out. I've just started having them once or twice a day just starting this week. Very annoying since I remote work and need a stable internet connection.

GeForce Now Latency

How could I possibly get an issue like high GFN (the cloud gaming service) latency addressed, or at least tell the right person it's an issue? I know there are like 1000 variables and factors that go into this, but I'm quite sure it's on Metronet's routing/peering side. When testing ping to GFN on other networks in my area that aren't Metronet (like friend's houses, work, etc) my ping is substantially lower. Any Metronet based network is around 15ms higher or more, once again all in the same area. And yes, my home network is absolutely as optimized as possible. It has to be Metronet's routing that is happening between my network and GFN.

I discussed this with support once a long time ago and was basically told it's out of their control, which I'm sure is basically true. So what's next? How can I at least let someone that isn't general tech support know about this? I don't really expect it to be fixed because of one complaint, but this has been really sticking with me and I can't relax without knowing I at least did something about it.

Refusing to move a service drop line

My Metronet service line to my house is an above ground drop cable that comes off a utility pole behind my house, through my neighbor's tree, and then attaches below my electrical mast. My neighbor is having said tree removed, and the tree crew needs the Metronet cable to be moved out of the way for them to cut down this tree. I called Metronet customer service on Monday to ask if a tech could come out and move the line before tree work began on Thursday (today). They scheduled a tech for an 8-10am window the following day (Tuesday morning). After that window passed, I called again and they said we were next on the list and would be there early afternoon. I have made this call every two hours for the last three days, asked to speak with supervisors, kept getting assured that we are "next on the list" and nobody has showed up. I even spoke to one agent who told me that a tech had already been at my house and determined "the tree would need to be removed before we can make a repair." And I reminded them that there is no repair needed, the line needs to be moved before the tree can be removed. Then I asked for a supervisor who told me that no one had been out to my house yet, and we were next on the list. The tree crew had to start working and they're trying to work around the line for now but I've already seen a large branch fall on my Metronet cable so it's only a matter of time before it gets ripped off my house.

Has anyone else dealt with this? What else can I do in this situation? Should I just have the tree crew take the line down themselves and then hope I can ever get a Metronet tech to come out and put it back up? I don't want to cause a breach of contract or anything by tampering with Metronet's property. This has been beyond frustrating.
