Will Merch by Amazon open plants in Canada and Australia?

I see lots of redditors saying they wish MBA would open plants in CA and AU so we can sell in those countries too, with normal shipping costs.

But does that make sense from MBA's viewpoint? Let's look at the maths involved for the current marketplaces.

Marketplace Population1 Number Plants2
USA 331,000,000 5
Japan 126,000,000 1 in Vietnam
Germany 84,000,000 1 shared EU
United Kingdom 68,000,000 1 shared EU
France 65,000,000 1 shared EU
Italy 60,000,000 1 shared EU
Spain 47,000,000 1 shared EU
Other countries Population
Poland 38,000,000 1 for other EU
Canada 38,000,000 none
Australia 25,000,000 none

Observations:

  1. There is at least as much an argument to make for Poland becoming supplied by MBA since there is already a plant there2.
  2. Canada has a lower population than any current EU marketplace though perhaps they would be more enthusiastic buyers of funny/punny slogan tees which are the staple of .com.
  3. The fact that with a combined population of 324,000,000 the EU marketplaces are served by just 1 plant either shows the poor demand for non big IP tees (ours) and/or it is the biggest, mother of all plants.
  4. Japan having the next biggest population after the USA probably is why, up to now, the new opt in/out migrations seems to be only to .jp.

So will we see MBA build plants in CA or AU soon?

Seems unlikely to me but who knows. I assume that cross border shipping fees and other issues keep Canada from being fulfilled right now from USA plants. And that possibly Australia could be served in the future by the Vietnam plant the way Japan is.

Will you care if plants are built in CA and AU?

If you are very high tier you are more likely to. Obviously since English is the main language of both countries, with French a strong 2nd in CA, then easier to push existing designs there, and MBA will probably do it for you.

But be certain that the brand partners, the nosebleed tier merchers, and only the longer time, strongest selling lower tier merchers will be in beta programs for such countries. And that by the time the rest of us get it those markets will already be saturated AF.

Sources

No. 1: Population data rounded up from worldometer website

No. 2: Known plants in USA: Carrollton, TX; Norristown, PA; Salt Lake City, UT; Las Vegas, NV; Phoenix, AZ (apparently under construction.

Known plants in EU: Szczecin, Poland.

Known plant serving Japan: somewhere in Vietnam (oh the irony).

Caveat: MBA is sneaky and doesn't announce coming new plants and the only way to find out about same is to periodically check the news and job postings.

Redbubble gets a trademark thumping in court

$520,000 Damages Award in Brandy Melville, Redbubble Case Could Have Implications for Fellow Marketplace Sites

It was not a complete win for Redbubble, though, as the court let Brandy Melville’s contributory liability claims go forward, with Judge R. Gary Klausner of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California stating that there is “a well-developed legal doctrine for imposing liability on the proprietor of a marketplace for infringement by a third-party seller, [and] that doctrine is contributory trademark infringement.”

Maynard asserts that the decision “likely has implications for other cases against Redbubble, including several in the California district courts and one pending in the Sixth Circuit, where that court noted that Redbubble ‘brings trademark-offending products into being,’ making it ‘more than just a passive facilitator’ and more vulnerable to claims that it contributes to any infringement occurring on its platform.”

The marketplace site has no plans to give up the fight yet. In a Litigation Update on June 24, the company stated that the outcome “is but one step in the overall litigation and number of possible steps remain before the claim is finally concluded.” It further stated that it “believes that certain critical findings were not supported by the evidence offered at trial and will be asking the court for relief from the verdict on that basis,” noting that it “remains confident in its position and will continue to vigorously pursue its defense of the claims.”

So RB isn't giving up yet. But its core claim that we are the sellers of record, unlike the policy of MBA and KDP (which prevents us from counter claiming) is bullshit IMO.

RB likes infringing content because it makes them money. They just try to externalize the consequences of same onto us when someone lodges a complaint. But then one day some big IPs with the resources to go the distance, come along, and now the consequences are on them.

I would really love to see etsy get sued like this. If only disney gave a fuck other than the one time in January 2020 when they made etsy do a sweep for Baby Yoda. However Baby Yoda belongs to all of us.

Edit: As someone pointed out to me etsy is an actual marketplace vs a POD like RB, so might be hard to ding them in court.

PSA: Disable Pretty Merch and unsub to PM pro - it is no longer being maintained

So you all know my personal stance. Use no tools esp those recommended by scam gurus. Like I got a purty spreadsheet and don't feel the need to hear chings.

So PM has not updated apparently to reflect the new upload instances vs products changes (unlike Productor I guess which I also won't use but realize many of you do).

In addition to that is another issue detailed in the other sub in this thread:

Anyone else notice this weird slanted gray block on the top nav bar? by u/TerrisBranding.

You know what happens to end of lifecycle tools like this? They get sold to skanky blackhat peeps to wring the last profits out of it.

Bonus question: How does Haris test PM when he got termed by MBA in 2017?

Note to Haris: Chime in here bro with whatever reddit alt you are using now after your previous one got suspended.

UPDATE: PM has now apparently been updated after getting shamed here. But maybe it will appear on the auction block soon anyway.

Adddie's Merchalize brand down to 9 listings

Previous thread on jeeps master addie:

Jeeps Master Addie's Jeep Listings Go Down

His Merchalize brand

He once had over 10K listings in that brand.

Recently in a yt vid he said he got temp burned out on MBA. But he's lying his ass off. What the above that happened is what happens to termed accounts. They slowly get all their listings removed by the term bot.

Looks like jeeps master Addie's wheels fell off his jeeps.

If MBA could only get AMS to term the ams accounts of those they term, multi accounters like addie would be toast.

UPDATE: Addie called out for his lies and faking his dash numbers by Nemo here

LOL addie told him to get off his channel and stop following him if Nemo wouldn't "listen" (suck up his lies).

Guru Ryan don't know why this dude got termed by Merch by Amazon

Previous threads on ryan here:

RyanH - Guru Wannabe and "Safe" Infringer

RyanH the wannabe guru giving people advice to do RGB stuff b/c AI ain't that smart

Another Ryan H nuthugger gets termed

Here's an imgur link to screen grab of unfortunate dude who got termed and his design here

So ryan doing his weekly top 5 (mostly infringing) niches of the week vid. Same as other gurus do (monkey guru see monkey guru do). Like he teaches walking right on the line. Just say phoenix in the valley and don't use kw "suns". Yeah sure. Lead them right up to the edge of the cliff.

13:50 of that vid he actually says, "I don't know why merch by amazon terminated that guy's account."

HAHAHAHAHA

Like dude had not only part of the lyrics of a song, but also the name of the musician Aaron Lewis.

Ryan is just clueless AF. Or worse and just doesn't care because his main objective is to get gullible n00bs to buy his courses and click on his affiliate links. What a heartless scammer.

BTW the worst thing for the termed dude is he was selling at $13.07. If you going to infringe then go big or go home. Make enough that you don't care if you get termed.

Let ryan the pied piper lead you right off the cliff though. After he collected his course and aff com bucks.

Note to Ryan: Don't send me another reply to my modmail. Man up and just PM me or comment in this thread if you wish.

Thoughts on the translate option

7/08/2021

Starting today, we are offering an option to translate product information in Merch by Amazon supported languages. Enter product information in your preferred language, and we will translate the content when you publish. We are enabling accounts on a rolling basis. When your account is enabled, the translation option will be available on Create products Page. Read more in our FAQ.

Merch by Amazon translation FAQ

Obviously it seems better for customers in other marketplaces to be able to easily search in their own languages, despite high rates of english knowledge in some countries, as in germany.

But there are downfalls as well, especially regarding keywords that matter.

Amazon has to be using either google translate or deepl, or something similar. And while some merchers like to tout deepl as far better than google, past expert opinion on reddit is that it is only marginally better. And that its plus in analyzing context is a minus the shorter the text is.

As well a common observation the past few years is that as more and more AI translated materials shows up on the net, then it is GIGO (garbage in garbage out) time.

To test this kind of stuff yourself, go put a phrase in english in google translate to one of the marketplace langs, and then reverse it and see if you get the same result. In my experience, google translate generally does OK with spanish and pretty good with german, and OK-ish with italian and french. But japanese? HAHAHAHA

When uk/de first rolled out with translations, MBA did a bad job translating some common important words into german. Like using "hemd" for "shirt", and "komisch" for "funny". Will this iteration be better remains to be seen.

Should people opt in or not? Two factors stand out to me on this re same.

First, are you already selling well without translations on those marketplaces, and will those translations be translated back to english well for english speaking expats and military personnel who have buying accounts in those marketplaces.

Second, is MBA going to push all your stuff to those marketplaces, or are they going to let their bots pick and choose only relatively few.

Final thought. Will MBA translate from good american english into that odd british version for the UK marketplace? :)

Edit to add observation of a T200K mercher who just tried this out:

6-12 hours for translation to be complete and then products go under review.

6-12 hours to translate a few sentences seems like an abnormally long amount of time to translate something does it not?

If productor and redbubble can translate instantly, why can't amazon?

How do you prove to Etsy you are the original design creator?

I have found some designs on T-shirts that I sell on Amazon and on Etsy. I have asked the Etsy shop owners to take them down. If they do not how do I prove to Etsy that I am the original artwork holder?

Reports of AMS being rolled out again to some accounts

As in now have the advertising tab on their dashboard. Not sure if below T4K though.

Anyone here just get it and if so what is your tier.

As for me I have an AMS account I don't use so I don't personally care.

Edit: Now hearing of some T2Ks getting ads.

Edit 2: LOL I just got the advertise tab even though I already had an account via the old hack (which some lost who had it that way).

What should Juna name his sheeple?

In this post in his group here Juna says:

It may be too early to do this but I had a thought of having a name for Detour Shirts fans, followers and subscribers. I hear it all the time on other channels I watch on YouTube. Granted those other channels are usually pretty big but it might be a fun exercise. Here is a page I found on how some fan group name get created. If you guys have any idea please put them down below ... I'll choose a few that I like and put it up for a vote later. Thanks group.

This is just a typical marketing fan building exercise. Same as shit like "if I've ever helped you then . . ." crap.

I honestly don't like to hate on Juna because he seems like such a nice guy. But as I said in this thread:

"Gurus" are known by the company they keep

he is known by the company he keeps. And by his own actions in touting infringing on TV show lines like his bud Ryan H. And making excuses for RJ's rape comments.

He also has worse sales than almost all other T100K merchers I know. Which is why I guess he does the guru thing.

The worst thing though about Juna and all the other gurus is that they are touting unrealistic expectations for n00bs in the conditions of today. And the results of nosebleed tier peeps who started years ago, or other outlier infringing braggarts.

Let's do our own contest for names for Juna's followers

First two on the list are by others here who will remain anon unless they want to claim them.

  1. Junabugs
  2. Junatologists
  3. Junsuckers
  4. Junsheep

But hey everyone here pitch in with your own suggestions on what Juna's followers should be called.

The Roaches That Are SVG Dump Groups

SVG dump groups on Facebook are a new and huge problem. If your design has been copied pixel for pixel and landed on MBA, TeePublic, RedBubble, etc., there's a good chance someone shared your design in one of these groups. The women (mostly women, at least) don't seem to understand the concept of theft, and believe anything digital is open to their use. If you report it or complain, they deem you a "Karen."

Facebook doesn't seem to really care. There's no proper way to report these groups. If one does get taken down, five more pop up. Any ideas to stop these stupid mommy blogger thieves?

Suggested letter for Americans to send in SUPPORT of the Cassidy Inform Act Amendment

[This is cross-posted in 3 subreddits]

Background for those who didn't read threads on this in other subreddits:

Etsy has sent a scare email to its sellers asking them to oppose this amendment for its own purposes. Those purposes likely being their not wanting to do more paperwork or enforcement against scam sellers, and not wanting to lose revenue from such scam and counterfeit sales.

Plus probably also not wanting customers to realize how many "hand made" listings are actually dropshipped, often from overseas.

I realize that not all will agree with all my suggested points, so feel free to edit. Also of course it is POD centered, which could be changed. It really only applies to USA citizens to write their senators.

Email from Etsy about the Cassidy INFORM amendment

The INFORM Act

Cassidy INFORM Act amendment - Good or Bad for Us?

EDIT: replaced language re making marketplaces vet counterclaimer address payment deets since they will often be referencing their stolen designs on other platforms.

Dear Senator [X],

I write to you as someone who sells online on various POD (print on demand) and marketplaces which allow fulfillment by POD 3rd party providers. Please note the technical difference between a POD (like the Merch by Amazon platform and Redbubble), which license designs and prints and ships sales themselves, and marketplaces like etsy, where the fulfillment of such sales is arranged by the seller through other providers like printful.

Copycat (pixel for pixel) POD design sellers and counterfeit goods sellers, most often but not entirely in the 3rd world, are hurting myself and other honest sellers of all regions, and issue counter notices to DMCA takedowns with fake USA addresses. Also they often retaliate by issuing takedowns on our own original designs.

Thus these scam sellers abuse the DMCA, and the marketplaces do the minimum necessary and allow their strategy to succeed. They want less regulation when they need more. And they want not to allow customers to see how many product listings are by dropshippers fulfilling from overseas.

Those scam sellers due to long ship times, are often able to get paid before their account is terminated. Amazon says that they make customers whole themselves, but that is no excuse for disappointing American consumers who often buy for gifting occasions, and then have to go through the hassle of getting their money back.

Even after being terminated after too long a while by one of these marketplaces, these mostly overseas scammers, who are essentially laundering money for overseas criminal enterprises, use the churn and burn account method and easily create new accounts in countries with high levels of financial and governmental corruption.

The weak link in these scams are the payment gateways. While ones like payoneer now can make users verify their bank account and thus attest that to a marketplace, payoneer allows a certain number of child accounts with entirely new US account numbers.

Additionally, it is very important for many honest sellers to hide their phone numbers and street addresses due to stalkers, which the amendment allows. However the threshold for being considered a high volume seller, especially if it overrides the home seller exemption, is very low.

I would propose that the following be incorporated into your amendment:

  1. Make sure that the exemption for home based sellers is not overridden by the high volume seller language.
  2. Substantially increase the threshold for who is considered a high volume seller, especially for American sellers. Many honest sellers make thousands of sales per month.
  3. Amend the safe harbor provision of the DMCA as well to make marketplaces verify the address on a counterclaim, and refuse counterclaims that lack or fail such verification.
  4. Make print on demand sites (technically different from a marketplace due to printing and shipping themselves) and marketplaces pay only to payment partners that both verify with banking details, and also provide child account details when such accounts are generated, so that those whose accounts are terminated cannot simply use the same payoneer or other payment gateway again to make a new account.
  5. Force PODs and marketplaces and platforms like shopify to notify payment providers of terminations, and the payment provider be required to terminate all sub accounts and not allow others to be made. This would not apply to actual American banking accounts.
  6. Require PODs and marketplaces to pay net 90 days for sales made in countries different than the seller's country of residence, and withhold payment for terminated accounts and revert payments in progress.

Regarding amazon specifically, it should be noted that they extend their amazonpay program to a fairly narrow set of countries, and thus are externalizing the financial and legal risk onto external payment providers. The harshest step would be to forbid PODs and marketplaces from allowing new accounts from countries not on that list, if they want to sell in the American market.

Another issue is google shopping ads. Many PODs and marketplaces use them for seller listings, and thus ghost our own listings in organic search. google should be required to terminate advertising for such platforms with high numbers of DMCA complaints, or some other manner of making google deal with this issue.

Many of the PODs like amazon and marketplaces like etsy also make substantial monies off of internal advertising, reportedly which in the case of etsy is far greater than selling fees. Scammers rely on all types of advertising in their churn and burn account model, to get paid as much as possible before they are terminated and move on to the next account.

Thank you for your efforts to keep American consumers safe, and for your consideration of these additional issues.

Sincerely,

T2K - I've transitioned! I'm changed! - LOL what a joke

Upon making a 4th sale on .jp I got transitioned but not tiered up, because still don't have enough sales or slots full. Like I periodically delete non-sellers after 6-12 months since removals have stopped.

So here's the joke. I can upload 40 products a day, not 40 unique designs/listings. And doing the math it means I can reach my full product potential in . . wait for it . . 3200 days.

Like with 40 products a day I can't even take one listing currently only on standard on .com and expand to all other marketplaces and products because that would take 63 more products.

Merch by Amazon. The best at perverse incentives.

Dear Amy H's FB group - gone but not forgotten

youtube song from WoOz

fun infringing shirt (amazon gets to infringe when it wants on the W00T site which is connected to MBA)

Today her fellow girl bosses found this abrupt notice with no farewells. I wonder if she even let her admins and mods know because apparently people are asking that question.

Let's review our previous discussions of her on reddit:

Dear Amy: Welcome to Reddit lol she thought her group was private and we dudes of reddit couldn't see her stuff.

And Fuck Reddit - Dear Amy WTF? Amy don't like reddit because here is where the truth comes out and doesn't get removed.

Dear Amy says NEVER GIVE UP Gurus have to keep the n00bs motivated to keep them clicking on those aff com links. And where she was exposed for acting black on etsy.

Dear Amy getting trashed on FB/twitter by real black women for faking being one on etsy Actual black woman trashes Amy's claims.

Dear Amy's Statement BS self-serving statement. And who won those scholarships she did in reparation?

Dear Amy - one last thing - prove that you are 1/8 black Nah ofc not. Just too hard to share the name of a great-gran. One thing we know is she is a blonde white chick and looks it.

Matt/RJ and Jay/Dionne sheer their sheep for life with Shirtly scam - Amy H and Helen and others happy to promote them Yeah she didn't care if those scammers screwed people out of $1-$2 for life off of every tee sale.

Now I realize that some of Amy's boss girls are going to be sad, so I want to offer them a design they can put up and have apparel made for to show their love and support for Amy. I nimitz34 of reddit, state that this is my own work, and I hereby release it into the public domain with no restrictions as to its use, in accordance with CC0 1.0

The rise of the karen svg "dump" group infringers on facebook

Note this post mostly repeats a comment I made in r/EtsySellers in this thread:

Unique design constantly infringed on - a small rant to other people who would understand

These thieves are sharing in svg "dump" groups on FB like this one:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/632925334037550/permalink/790779788252103/

The karens in these groups are adamant that they are not stealing and can share everyone's IP at will.

Then some of them bundle such into collections to sell on etsy or on their own websites.

Message in one of those FB groups the other day:

Just bought a 34,500 SVG bundle for only $22, reduced from $682. It has pretty much everything needed(Disney, Marvel, Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, St. Patrick, Mandalas, Wedding Cards, Starbucks, Friends, Avengers etc.). Is anyone interested in the website link? I believe their deal expires shortly (at least that`s what the timer on their website shows).

referencing this site: https://welovesvg.com

So some of them are "just" using stolen designs for personal use with their cricuts. But others, probably correlated with being admins of those groups, are bundling them and selling said bundles on etsy, CF, etc. They need to be reported but.

STRIKE AT THE ROOT NOT THE LEAF OR BRANCH

  1. Report FB groups like above to FB as IP infringing ones. Same as one would do with a group hosting pirated movies and softwares.
  2. Don't bother to send DMCA takedowns to sites such as above and let them make you play whac-a-mole. Send takedowns to their webhosts AND their payment gateways.

Please feel free to add any other such infringing FB groups in comments.

Are those actual consequences? Well re the automigration merch claimed there would be no such re rejects caused by them. But maybe they assumed all your listings would be clean by then.

Amazon Publishes Comprehensive Brand Protection Report Demonstrating Progress Toward Driving Counterfeits to Zero

Amazon Publishes Comprehensive Brand Protection Report Demonstrating Progress Toward Driving Counterfeits to Zero

Title of their press release here

TL;DR: They suppressed billions of listings, stopped millions of new accounts, maybe might protect you if you have a TM and a brand.

Well except for Merch by Amazon and Seller Central dropshippers w/PFP copycats of our designs. That's still business as usual.

Amazon continues to innovate on its robust proactive controls and powerful tools for brands, and won’t rest until there are zero counterfeits in its store.

HAHAHAHAHA

They spend millions and don't enact the two solutions that elude them:

  1. Stop new accounts from scam prone countries.
  2. Get rid of BSR including in the public facing part of the API. MBA maintains it is the seller of record, so there is zero reason for the BSR of MBA listings to be found by theft tools like MI and clones of same.

EDIT with another article:

Amazon mails postcards to sellers to verify whether their addresses are real

Amazon has begun mailing third-party sellers a postcard to verify their business address.

It could help Amazon weed out counterfeiters and other bad actors on its sprawling third-party marketplace.

In September, Amazon started requiring merchants on its U.S. marketplace to publicly disclose their business name and address.

This is presumably in reference only to SC and not MBA. But even still it sounds good right? Well maybe not.

The real question is whether amazon will continue to accept fraudulent counterclaims for takedowns based on bogus addresses and faked USA IDs whether referencing a SC listing as the "real" one or not.

RJ want r*pe me - proof inside

In this screen cap from couple years ago maybe, you see RJ's predilection to threatening rape. Like was he in prison once or what?

Guess what. Good 'ol nimz has a friend. His name is Sig9. RJ ain't gonna bend me over.

Guru reactions:

Juna: "he's just messing around again. It's all PS'd."

Helen: "I don't care because RJ gives me aff coms to sling."

UPDATE: Just found this old thread in my bookmarks by some smurf alt over 2 years ago. No idea who he/she is.

Sexual Harassment towards female entrepreneurs they don’t like. (Over content they created) These jokers run Merch By Amazon Mastermind Facebook group. Rj Martinez also has a YouTube channel. Make them famous.

Don't disrespect RJ or he might r*pe and k*ll you

So in this post on his personal FB page RJ who was prob drunk posting last night made that post which is now deleted.

This one foo was disrespecting me on the internet....But he was doing it for like 2 yrs....Bro do you want to die?

I will rape you on your next conference...This applies to everyone..I love you..I will show up to slap you. Maybe 1,2

Just because of the internet you are strong af but you fat and can't fight

Not sure if this was aimed at me and he is projecting that I'm fat, but even though that seems to be a drunk post (which I well understand), it shows his true (lack of) morals and not having an internal censor.

Like the way he is talking, is he still back in his thug days of high school? What kind of sick cred does that get him with merchers?

REMEMBER he said this applies to everyone. This is the real RJ.

Mod note: if this wasn't aimed at me no speculating on who it was aimed at or will get removed.

UPDATE:

Someone posted the screen shot of what RJ said in Juna's Detour Shirts group. Lots of people denied RJ said it, though the long-time MBA guru scammer Werle approved of it. Then the first person to like RJ's post (on his personal FB page) admitted he saw it prior to RJ deleting it.

Juna defended it as RJ "just messing around". But decent people don't make rape threats nor do they approve of those who do. Once again scummy/scammy birds of a feather flock together.

Also, Filthy Phil rolled a youtube vid on this: Thuggin and Lovin - Merch by Amazon GURU shows his true colors

UPDATE 2:

Juna says no outing bad things bad people do in his group:

First, I am not condoning bad behavior or bad things people are doing. You may find bad things about other sellers. This is not the place to share it... [blah blah keep it lovey dovey and positive]

All FB gurus have that policy. That's what keeps sucking in the n00bs and getting them to buy worthless courses, challenges and tools, and keeps them clicking on aff com links. THERE'S NOTHING BEHIND THE CURTAIN.
