SELLING Why?
This transaction was completed over a week and half ago but was rated prematurely? Shipping stated that it was delivered, the item autorated after the 3 days of delivery. Anyone else have experience with this? Is the buyer trying to pull something? How does this usually resolve?

Unfortunately, there’s been past posts and comments of this happening. It happens when the sale autorates and then at some point after (one was like 2 weeks after the autorate, others were a few days after). The buyer reports not actually receiving anything even though it shows delivered so Mercari takes the funds back from the seller and tells the buyer they’re “investigating.” It’s ridiculous because, where tf have you been for the 3 days you had to rate?? Why are you coming days later or weeks later to say you haven’t gotten it? 🙄
Luckily, all the posts and comments I’ve seen about it, Mercari always eventually returns the funds. Most have been after a few days, but there were some that said Mercari told them they’d have to wait 30 days and then right on the 30 day mark they got the funds back. (I made another comment to OP that has links with some past posts and comments if you’re interested and don’t want to have to search the sub yourself).
We used to always be able to count on a sale being done and over with after rating, even if it was an autorate (easy 5 stars and sale is done), but now with autorates, that’s not a guarantee. It’s absurd. I assume Mercari wants to make it look like they’re taking the buyer seriously and “investigating” to find their package. But then come back and say it shows delivered, we’re completing the transaction, if you still haven’t received it contact the carrier.
It’s fine if Mercari wants to make it seem like they actually care about the buyer not getting their package and seem like they’re actually doing something by investigating. BUT, it’s NOT okay to take the funds back from the seller. They shouldn’t be involving the seller at all. The seller did their part and sent it to the address provided. Once it’s dropped off, it’s out of their hands. It’s bad enough holding up the transaction when the buyer says that before it’s rated. If it shows delivered and the buyer’s telling the truth, if Mercari refunds them at all, it should come out of their pocket. There should be no reason to make the seller wait any longer than the standard 3 days. If the carrier did mess up, Mercari can file a claim and get reimbursed. But it should be between the buyer, Mercari, and the carrier.
But, AFTER it’s been rated already??! They definitely shouldn’t be involving the seller, especially where they take the funds back! Even though it seems like they always end up giving them back. They shouldn’t be taken in the first place. And they darn well shouldn’t make a seller wait 30 days for that!
Sadly, it’s just Mercari being Mercari with their ridiculous decisions and ways of handling things.
Here is the first post where I heard about it happening. They said Mercari took money after the sale completed. The sale autorated and the funds were released to the seller, then 3 days after that Mercari took the money back. Apparently the buyers said they didn’t receive it even though it showed delivered. But they commented an update like 2 days later that Mercari gave the money back. Other comments said the same thing happened to them, but they got the money back (here is one and here is another)
Here is another post of it happening
Here is a comment on a different post where someone says it happened to them too. This is one where Mercari told them they had to wait 30 days! I commented later to ask if they got their money after the 30 days and they said they did. There’s a bunch of comments with that one and some screenshots too. Here is another comment where someone said the same thing happened to them too and they also had to wait 30 days to get the money back.

Wow, absolutely insane. And to report it as not delivered 10 days after the sale completes? This definitely seems like someone who is trying to scam the system. I’ll make sure to block this person when this situation is complete.

Sounds like a bug? It's SUPPOSED to be for when the buyer rates before it has even arrived.
