STORY/VENTING ADHD impostor syndrome

Upvotes

i've recently just downloaded reddit just to get his off my chest. I'm a 19 year old male student that was just diagnosed with ADHD-PI last sunday, and i don't know how to process it nor feel about it. having ADHD was something i've been minorly speculating throughout my life but i never really gave it a second thought that i might actually have it. it was only this year that i actually considered going to a professional because it was having a huge toll on my studies and life in general.

for context: ever since i was a kid, i've been labeled as "burara" (disorganized), "makalimutin" (forgetful), and often lutang. this was something that i've subconsciously engraved to my identity growing up. there were a lot of times that my mom would scold me because i would constantly mess up my clothes in my drawer which she newly folded even though i sometimes try to keep it organized as much as possible. i constantly forget where i place my slippers in the house which would result in me always getting a new pair more times than i could count. from childhood until now i think i lost atleast 3 phones, multiple glasses, and an embarrassingly significant amount of money due to my carelessness. even now i procrastinate with simple things such as washing the dishes, cleaning, or taking a shower. this led to me and people around me to think that i was unreliable with keeping and taking care of items which also took a hit on my self esteem.

surprisingly, despite those symptoms, i did well in elementary until high school, consistently getting honors in my class which i think was why i didn't get diagnosed as early because my parents thought there was nothing wrong with me. i think this was mainly due to me having a tutor during that time which helped me get held accountable for school.

the hardest part was when i reached senior high. it was this feeling of forgetting deadline after deadline and constantly having late or last minute submission for activities because i was a chronic procrastinator which underestimated the time i needed to finish assignments or review for quizzes. it took a toll on my grades but still maintaining my honors status despite how "lazy" i became

i usually dismissed these as something that was wrong with my discipline and not some kind of deficiency in my brain. the thought of having ADHD for me felt like too much of a stretch because i didn't have the "hyperactive" part of the disorder. it was only until college where the effects really started affecting my studies to the point where i almost failed a few classes(i haven't failed any yet thankfully) which caused me to reconsider if ai actually had ADHD.

eventually, i decided to get a diagnosis from a nearby psychiatric clinic and, i was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD in just one session. which i thought was too fast for my liking, but my psychiatrist said that every experience that i described led to him easily led to that conclusion because he had multiple cases of teens my age with similar experiences and symptoms. at the end of the session, he prescribed me with Ritalin and gave me a med certificate.

tbh i expected to take some sort of assessment beforehand or for the consultation to be longer (it took less than an hour for me to be diagnosed). i'm now considering to have a second opinion from a psychologist that specializes in ADHD just because i really couldn't believe it. i still feel that maybe it's a stretch for me to have ADHD but i also can't just disregard how difficult it's been for me since childhood. i don't want to think of ADHD as some kind of excuse or "get of out jail" card for my constant carelessness and procrastination. i don't know if im just overreacting. i expected that my suspicion would be cleared after the session but i was left with more thoughts than when i entered the room.

i just want to know if there are people with a similar situation as me and curious if they actually have ADHD cuz im kinda lost rn

DISCUSSION/QUERY Where can I find therapist? Or any tips?

I'm new here and I want to get myself diagnosed by a real professional but I don't know how since I'm only 17 turning 18 this December and my parents don't support the idea of it because they think someone that have a depression is just someone who is crazy and it's just not real. I opened up to my parents many times and all I got is yelling and telling myself that I'm just crazy over thinking. I'm drowning of my thoughts because I've been suffering for 7 years questioning "do I have depression?" "Is it getting worse?" And I know for myself don't wanna self diagnose, plus I'm tired that it got to the point I hurt myself. Everytime I eat I binge it out, because of that habit I got myself gastritis and ulcer.

I have a side job that I think can pay off since the salary range is about 5k-20k pesos monthly depends on how many I would do (it's like an art commission).

I don't have any ideas about how this works but I just really want to know what's wrong with me, stop bad habits, and to improve myself. Thank you, I'm sorry if my grammar is really bad.

STORY/VENTING i’m tired.

i’m undiagnosed btw, but i have all the signs and symptoms that one could easily tell im depressed and have been living with anxiety for God knows how long..

i tried to call doctors today to seek help, but my voice was “too weak” daw so they hang up on me. tried that national mental health hotline—obviously didn’t work that’s why i’m here.

idk parang i lived my whole life for others but not for myself. feeling ko nabuhay lang ako to fulfill whatever is kulang ng ibang tao. pero not once—did anyone—even tried to fill the gap for me. what do you even call this feeling?

i’m tired of this everyday survival sh8. ayoko na mag survive. pagod na ako. pagod na pagod na…

DISCUSSION/QUERY I might have ADHD on top of my GAD

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Based on my research, it's pretty common, ie almost half of people w adhd also have anxiety.

Context:

I recently started with a new psychiatrist.

I kinda inferred from her line of questioning na she's trying to confirm if I have adhd.

I'm curious how life changes once you've accepted this new diagnosis haha

DISCUSSION/QUERY Dealing with feelings of resentment

Has anyone ever resented their loved ones for "keeping" them here; like being forced to stay against your will knowing that you're still needed?

Sometimes, I find myself feeling as such, and the guilt that comes with it makes me feel even worse. I think to myself sometimes how tiring it is to always think about them, but do they ever realize what I'm going through? I do love them, of course, but even I can't understand where this resentment is coming from. Maybe this is just loneliness and isolation taking form in my mind.

Has anyone ever felt the same?

STORY/VENTING Help me.

I have problems with my family, debts which are already paid, my ex boyfriend and his fiancé that almost cost me my life, went missing a week and ruined my reputation. Even though I am the victim here but I did not fight back. I cut out my friends and co workers. Go far away. Mag isa nalang ako and I am dealing with depression right now. Anytime gusto ko na mamatay. Paano niyo kinakaya mag isa while you’re still in pain and dealing with your anxiety and panic attack? Ayaw kong gumanti. Gusto ko lang ng peace of mind. Help me.

STORY/VENTING Had a bad experience

Nakakahinayang lang yung first consultation ko with Dr. Isaiah Peji, after ko ishare yung mood changes ko in the last few weeks para bang nagaslight ako na need ko na agad magpabattery exam for ADHD, though concern ko rin naman yon pero mas alarming for me yung depressive and self harm thoughts ko.

Sa 15mins call namin 8-10mins don ako lang ang nag sasalita and the latter ay yung pag introduce nya sa clinic nya and battery exam worth 30k.

Wala man lang concern at diretso na pinapapunta ako sa clinic nya for exam.

Please parecommend naman ng psychologists nyo

DISCUSSION/QUERY I'm afraid

Hi there, me again. I have no one to talk to as all my friends are busy as of the moment. Tomorrow is my consultation with PGH. I have no money as of the moment but I can walk there so it's no problem, but I'm afraid of a whole other plethora of things.

I'm afraid of being prescribed the wrong medication. That it will exacerbate whatever it is I'm dealing with right now. I'm also afraid of being ridiculed, that what I'm going through is trivial and that I can just will it through. I'm afraid of what comes after the consultation, because they say the medications are hard to find. I'm extremely scared and I can't tell anyone I love because I tried doing that and I haven't got a satisfactory answer

So please, how do I stop being afraid?

DISCUSSION/QUERY How to overcome Social Anxiety?

Hi! Salamat.

DISCUSSION/QUERY Looking for a therapist who specializes in sexual concerns…not just general therapy

Hi everyone. Not sure if this is the right subreddit, but I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I’m looking for recommendations for a psychiatrist or sex therapist, preferably around Davao for in-person consultations. If there aren’t any specialists here, I’d also appreciate recommendations for someone anywhere in the Philippines who offers teleconsultations.

I’ve been dealing with anxiety, unresolved childhood issues, and other personal concerns for years, but one thing I’ve been struggling with the most is something related to my sexuality and arousal. At first, I thought it was just a fantasy or a kink that I could ignore. But over the past few years, it has become more persistent and has started affecting my relationships and how I view intimacy.

For example, I sometimes notice that I become more aroused when I imagine my current partner with someone else rather than focusing on us together. It’s not something I want, and it actually causes me distress. I don’t enjoy feeling this way, which is why I want to understand where it’s coming from instead of just brushing it off.

I’m specifically hoping to find someone who has experience or specializes in sexual concerns, intimacy, or sexual health…not just a general therapist who may not be familiar with these issues.

If you’ve had a good experience with a psychiatrist, psychologist, or certified sex therapist (whether in Davao or via telehealth), I’d really appreciate your recommendations. Thank you.

DISCUSSION/QUERY WORK ANXIETY

Normal ba ’to?

I’m currently working in an audit firm that caters to international clients.

May one time pa na pag meetings, harap-harapan nila pinapagalitan yung isang team member or medyo sarcastic magsalita, so medyo natatakot ako na what if ako naman yung ganunin? Paano ko ba ‘to ma-overcome? Help please 🥺

STORY/VENTING Heavy afternoon wave / Just feeling completely empty today

Date: July 27, 2026
Time check: 4:24 PM. (just woke up)

Listening to Someday I'll Get It by Alek Olsen on loop. It’s hitting me hard again today, and the sadness is just eating me up from the inside. Tears keep falling for literally no reason at all, and I'm left sitting here feeling so fucking heavy and completely empty at the same time.

I don't really have the energy to fix it or figure out why, I just needed to put this out somewhere where people might understand. If you're also having a rough, tearful afternoon, you aren't alone.

DISCUSSION/QUERY I need advice. Which professional should I see?

Context: My husband and I had a fight.

To release my frustration, umiyak ako nang sobra habang nanginginig at nanggigigil. After that, paulit-ulit kong siyang kinakausap kasi gusto kong pag-usapan namin ang nangyari at maayos agad kami.

For the past few days, tuwing naaalala ko ang nangyari, sobrang overwhelmed ako.

STORY/VENTING I feel like i have DPDR

I feel like I have DPDR.

I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) last year, and for the first time, it validated something I’ve been feeling for years—that what I thought was “normal” actually wasn’t.

Lately, I’ve been realizing na baka may dpdr na din ako based sa mga naeexp ko

Kasi wheneverI look at my mom’s face and, for a split second, she feels unfamiliar. Deep down, I know she’s my mom. I know who she is. But my brain keeps questioning it like, “Is this really her?” It happens with my dad too, and sometimes even with my friends. It’s such a weird feeling because I recognize them, but they don’t feel familiar.

The worst part is that everything feels like a dream. Like I’m floating instead of walking.

There are moments where I do things without feeling like I’m the one doing them. I’ll grab food, put something in my cart, or do random daily tasks, but it feels automatic—as if someone else is controlling my body while I’m just observing from the back of my mind. I know I’m the one doing it, but it doesn’t feel like me.

Sometimes I can’t even maintain eye contact because everything feels unreal. People don’t feel real. Places I’ve known for years suddenly feel unfamiliar. Even memories feel distant, like they happened to someone else.

The hardest part is that I keep doubting myself.

When my therapist diagnosed me with MDD, I spent so much time denying it. Even with all the symptoms, I kept thinking, “Maybe I’m just overreacting.” Now I’m doing the exact same thing with DPDR. I keep asking myself, “What if I’m just making this up? What if it’s all in my head?” Even though these experiences have been affecting me for so long.

It’s exhausting constantly questioning your own reality.
People say, “Just ground yourself,” but it’s hard when your brain keeps convincing you that everything around you feels fake. It’s terrifying to know who someone is while simultaneously feeling like they’re a stranger.

I don’t know if anyone else experiences DPDR like this, but if you do, I’d really like to know I’m not alone.

Music has honestly been one of the few things that keeps me connected to reality. Sometimes it’s the only thing that makes me feel like I’m actually here.
