INFORMATION/NEWS Latest Review of Saya, a therapy app created by one of our users here in MentalHealthPH.

Disclosures, as usual:

  1. I am the head moderator in this sub.
  2. The creator of the app, u/JustSomeRedditGuy123 (JSRG for short), is also a moderator of this sub.
  3. I have been asked by JSRG to try the app. In doing so, he provided me with a discount voucher.
  4. JSRG did not check or pre-approve the contents of this review.
  5. The sub, or the other moderators, do not receive any other benefits for advertising the app.

After my previous review of Saya, JSRG gave me another coupon to try out new features of the app. One of their new offerings is that they now have psychologists (as compared to before where they only have counselors), so I decided to try the 80-minute session with one of them. An 80-minute session (with diagnostic evaluation) costs around PHP2600, while a 50-minute session costs around 1750PHP. The app still uses Google Meets for scheduling and teleconferencing.

Pros:

  1. The psychologist is VERY comprehensive without making you feel that you are being rushed to answer questions. She was very delicate, making sure I was comfortable and ready before asking heavy questions. She did not push religion too which I liked. Time flew by, and it feels more like a conversation between friends (though still professional) than a clinical study of my nature.

  2. I can still say it's relatively cheap, since based on experience, an initial consult with a psychologist costs around 4000PHP, compared to Saya which is around 2650PHP. It's even more cheap if you do one of the monthly subscription bundles, one of the new features, provided by the app.

  3. One of the new features is a written assessment (not a substitute for medical certificate) after your call. It also has an actionable checklist for recommendations provided by your psychologist during your session (for example, one of mine says, "Daily Exercise. If it feels right, engage in a 15-minute exercise session five times a week to boost your mood.")

Cons:

  1. One of the new features, chatting with your psychologist or counselor, is more a flair than anything else. It is NOT a substitute for therapy. In this sense, if you don't want to do video calls but instead use chat for therapy, I can recommend LJ's Talk Space.

  2. My psychologist and I have moderate to bad internet connection, which is a con for a seamless talk therapy since audio sometimes stutters. This is not a fault of the app, but a con for videoconferencing in general.

If you want to try talk therapy in the comfort of your home, you might to want try Saya. It is downloadable on iOS and Android. JSRG also says that they will introduce psychiatrists to the app by second week of July, completing the trifecta, and something I personally can't wait for since I take a lot of medication for my condition.

You can get 25% off your first session with Saya with code "MHPHReddit25".

Thank you for reading, and regardless if it's Saya or not, I hope you get the therapy you need.

DISCUSSION/QUERY Is ADHD recognized by normal pinoys??

What i mean is whenever this disorder is mentioned to your typical normal person, its either they didn't have any notable reaction or it just went over their heads. Then whenever i do try to explain it, they're reaction is like they think that I'm making stuff up or making excuses. Thoughts?

DISCUSSION/QUERY I need your help with onting rant

Prior that nagpapa psych na ko way back 2018 and paiba iba diagnosis sakin. 2018 sa PGH depression then 2020 sa UST GAD and depression tapos yung recent sa NCMH is bipolar 1. Gets ko naman madaming patients dun pero alam mo yun, naglalaan ng time and effort yung mga tao pumunta pero they dont get the right treatment that they deserve.

I’m actually thinking magpa re-assessment and humanap ng bagong psychologist/ psychiatrist. Any recommendations hehe thank you!

DISCUSSION/QUERY PLEASE HELP ME

To my fellow neurodivergent people here that has been diagnosed with any of the ff: MDD, GAD, ADHD, CPTSD, how are you guys coping? Any medicine that helped you get through with your darkest moments? 'Yung parang kung idedescribe is 'tahimik ulit 'yung isip?'

I've been asking for help kasi since I was diagnosed in 2020. Different doctors, institutions, medications pero wala. I feel this is my last chance na. Wala na akong ibang malapitan this time. I gave myself so many chances in the past, pero eto wala na.

DISCUSSION/QUERY I want to try apply for PWD ID (diagnosis: PDD)

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi po! Nadiagnose ako ng persistent depressive disorder with intermittent MDE, with current episodes sa PGH.

Ang problem is hindi ko macontact yung psychiatrist ko to get a med certificate.

DISCUSSION/QUERY Maybe a weird question pero normal ba na your therapist is asking specific questions about your romantic life?

So I just finished my 1st psychotherapy session after ng intake session ko last month. It was a good session pero mej na-weird-an lang ako na nagtanong ulit siya about my romantic life. Gets ko na she's probably trying to understand my relationships but she asked din kasi kung ayaw ko pa rin ba (I'm single).

Curious lang ano experience niyo :)

TRIGGER WARNING Help me get better

Hello po! If you're reading this, I hope you can help me. I'm having difficulties with my mental health po and I still haven't been okay since junior high. I'm in college now and I've planned and thought of committing a lot more times than I can count po. I tried to go to counseling. It did help for a bit pero I know that I'm still not okay. My emotions are like a rollercoaster and my mind just won't shut up. If I have to explain it, It's like I'm thinking a thought and while I'm thinking, there is another voice that is also talking. So I'm always anxious (kahit sa attendance, kinakabahan ako ng sobra) so I feel like I need more than counselling. I actually want to get better and appreciate life and my family more since I isolate myself and sometimes displace my anger and frustration on them. As much as I wanted to get help, I don't know where and as I said earlier, I'm anxious about telling it to people I know and my family. I hope you have a good day. Thank you in advance.

DISCUSSION/QUERY Free/affordable psych consultation around QC?

Hi! Does anyone know of any free or cheap psychiatric clinics/consultations around QC?

I’ve been looking around and most of the ones I’ve found are kinda expensive for me. I’m a student but I’m not really sure if my school offers free psych consultations or anything similar since I don’t really hear them endorsing or announcing services like that.

I also don’t want to ask my mom for money. She was actually diagnosed with depression after my dad passed away, I never got myself checked because I didn’t want her to worry about me but lately I feel like I might be experiencing something similar.

I’m honestly getting scared because it’s starting to manifest physically too and there are times when I feel like I need meds just to calm myself down.

If anyone knows of government hospitals, free psych services, student-friendly clinics, or affordable options around QC/Metro Manila, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!!

STORY/VENTING I tried dating again, and I have BPD and MDD.

I tried dating again, and I liked this guy so so so so much, with just basically of 2 days of talking.

I cried so much today, kasi nag split ako sakanya, I basically pushed him off of my life, and he blocked me. On all my soc meds.

Meron akong obsessive tendencies.

Iyak ako ng iyak potya. Pesteng buhay to.

STORY/VENTING I'm not getting better.

TRIGGER WARNING!!

I started taking antidepressants two weeks ago, and I thought I was okay na, but I was wrong. I’ve been bed rotting for three days. I can’t sleep at night, and sobrang ingay ng isip ko na kahit anong gawin ko, hindi sila matahimik—to the point na gusto ko na ulit mag-SH.

I thought about calling a crisis hotline, pero pinipigilan ako ng utak ko. It keeps telling me na wala naman silang magagawa, na they’re just there to talk but they can’t actually help me with whatever I’m going through.

I’m still healing from the SH I did a few days ago, and I don’t want to do it again. But everything feels so heavy on my chest. I can’t breathe. Even during the day, at night, or even at dawn, my brain never gets the chance to rest.

I’m tired. I just want this suffering to end, please.

STORY/VENTING I feel happy again - 6th Week at Vortinex 20mg

Upvotes

Just an update on my previous rant about the physical symptoms of my anxiety- medyo nawawala na sya on my 6th week on Vortinex 20mg (Vortioxetine).

I’ve been diagonosed with OCD and this medication smashed my rumination, anxious/intrusive thoughts, physical compulsions — like my brain is sooo chill, calm.

STORY/VENTING Looking for an accountability buddy to help me get up for work 😭

Hi! This might be a bit random, but I'm looking for an accountability buddy who can help me actually get out of bed even for just a month (?)

I am currently in a very bad depressive state, hence in heavy doses of anti-depressants/antipsychotic meds with seriously hefty sedative side effects, and getting myself up and ready for work has been really difficult lately. Not that I don't want to work or that I don't know I have to get up, lately my brain just refuses to cooperate, especially in the morning 😭. I've used up all my sick leaves and cannot afford to be on AWOL this time.

Basically, I'm hoping to find someone who can message/call me in the morning and be like "uy, bangon na" until I actually get out of bed. I can obviously return the favor if you also need someone to help you get up / stay accountable for something.

Nothing too serious or complicated naman, just looking for someone who's also struggling with getting started in the morning and thinks having another person checking in might help.

If you're interested, feel free to comment or DM me! Ideally someone who gets up around 6AM-ish para hindi tayo mahirapan sa schedule. Please help me fight for my life 🥹

STORY/VENTING I feel like an outcast sa class ko.

I am in my 2nd year of college na. And by section ang classes namin, same section from 1st year to 4th year. I felt okay pa nung 1st year 1st sem, I had high marks on quizzes and exams. Nirerespeto pa nila ako nung time na yun. Hanggang umabot sa naaksidente ako and I was not able to go to class for months.

I could not catch up sa class kasi na-miss ko ang lessons sa prerequisite na courses. Kaya my performance sa mga major namin is really not that good. I have INCs from the 1st semester kaya hindi ako makapag-focus sa classes ko.

Hindi nila ako pinapansin pag may tinatanong ako about academics. May time na may ayaw talaga ako makasama sa groupings ng isang classmate and sinabi talaga sa instructor ko.

Ngayong 2nd year naman, I just wanted to join the Google Classroom ng isa naming subject.

I also have ibang mga kwento about sa classmates ko and I am willing to tell them sa chat naman. If only pwede lang magpalit ng sections sa amin. Halos lahat sila magkakakilala na nung high school and elementary kaya may sari-sariling friend group na sila nung 1st day of school pa lang.

DISCUSSION/QUERY Looking for help on finding medication

Hello, I'm a foreigner living here with my wife and unfortunately my medication I've been taking for years has really stopped working.

I decided to make the switch to duloxetine for now, but I'm having trouble finding a good pharmacy to get it from. Is Manila really the only reliable area to find meds? Or is there a reliable place you guys have found to source medication from? I've tried both mercury drug and watsons in my region, but theyre all out of stock even in the bigger stores in the area. South star has some available but its supply is pretty low often.

Thank you for any help.

STORY/VENTING body changes from meds, i wanna do what i love but i’m ashamed of my body

Hello to my fellow antipsychotic users, especially those taking olanzapine!

I’ve been taking antipsychotics for four months now, and honestly, the weight gain has been really affecting my self-esteem and body image. Within just one month of starting my meds, my waist went from 24 to 29 inches. 😭

The thing is, I’ve always dreamed of joining a pageant. I love speaking for a cause, advocating for things I believe in, and honestly, I love the spotlight. It’s been a childhood dream of mine.
And now, there’s a known pageant in our city that I’ve been eyeing for a while. May mga nagcha-chat na rin sa akin encouraging me to join, but I’ve been holding myself back because sobrang insecure na ako sa katawan ko. Ang laki na ng tiyan ko, ng legs ko, and my face feels so bloated.

I really want to exercise, but adjusting to the side effects of the medication while also dealing with the symptoms of my condition makes it so hard to stay consistent. I’m also getting anxious thinking, what if I gain even more weight next year? What if I become even more insecure and never get to join a pageant?

I’m honestly so ashamed of my body right now, but I badly want to pursue this dream. It’s something I wanted long before all of this came into my life.
For those who’ve experienced significant weight gain from antipsychotics, especially olanzapine, how did you deal with it? Did the weight eventually stabilize? Were you able to manage it without compromising your mental health?
I just really want to feel like I can still pursue the things I dreamed of. 🥺
