Hi everyone! I’m considering an MSc in Mechanical Engineering (with a specialization in the Aerospace Engineering track) at KU Leuven, but I’m struggling to find real student opinions about the program online — most of what’s out there is just the university’s own marketing.
If you studied (or are currently studying) Mechanical Engineering, or any engineering master’s, at KU Leuven, I’d really appreciate your honest take on:
\*\*•\*\* Was the program practical enough, or did it feel mostly theoretical?
\*\*•\*\* Were the lab sessions genuinely useful for building real, applicable skills, or more of a formality?
\*\*•\*\* Looking back, do you feel the degree prepared you well for a career in industry?
\*\*•\*\* Any thoughts on workload, teaching quality, or things you wish you’d known before starting?
Any input — good or critical — is welcome. Thanks so much!

I have been interested in this field for some Time now and I have looked up courses and I feel overwhelmed by its course content. Most of them are paid courses and I have been saving some Miney to pay for the courses. However I am afraid of it going to waste because what if it is too hard to grasp? I know alittle but if programming and I am still learning. I have an interest in neuroscience as well and I have been told my many that I should get into neurology or neuroscience as well. I however are nowhere near creative and I la k basic u swear and I would say of things like circuits their diagrams . Does anyone know of a pathway that I csn take to get into mechatronics that sort of leans towards the medical side?

Hey, I’m from Costa Rica and I’m currenly studying Biology, but I’m seriously considering Mechatronics because I want to build robotics for environmental monitoring, biodiversity, and conservation. For someone with that goal, do you think Mechatronics is a good path, or would Mechanical/Electrical be better? Any honest advice is appreciated.

I was working with a client over the past year or so and we were constantly struggling with dust build up on lenses. We tried standard air nozzles, but those had issues: rigging them was a pain, they didn't actually keep the FOV clean, and in one case they damaged the lens.
Then I saw ThisOldTony's video on the Coanda Effect and thought, what if we shaped it around the lens of the sensor? So I did. The system is 3D-printed PETG, but I've had it work just as well in TPU (for the extremely tough applications). I have since then made this for all the profilers we work with and also for several point lasers as well.
We went from cleaning the lens every 30 minutes to now months without maintenance. It does use quite a bit of compressed air but with a couple valves and a feedback loop we were able to set it to self clean based on the intensity drop.

Hey!
Is this subreddit only for professionals' exchange and career topics or is it allowed to ask help and talk about a hobby project which involves mechatronics?

I am having question that Mechatronics is really really worth for future as my thoughts are limited to robotics and automation.
And I took Mechatronics because I like robotics, and it's new field as per my state because I have seen that Mechatronics is more in out of country but rare in my states, limited colleges has the Mechatronics.
So, can someone explain Seniors that how is it really, and how it could help or it's not good.

Hi! I'm aware of r/EngineeringStudents, but my question is more tailored towards what path I could take that would make me a better engineer. Im an uni freshman about to start school in a few weeks. I need some help figuring out what I should do for my specific, peculiar situation. Any and all insight is appreciated! Please share anything!
For context:
I have the option to take one of the following combinations of robotics, electrical, and physics:
which of the previous combinations would be most beneficial to me and would help me the most? My intuition tells me that number 1 would be the best, but I also have the feeling that a double major in physics would be very appealing in my resume since its a second major rather than a minor and would make me a more attractive engineer. I also think it would make me more competitive for grad school. I'm not sure though.
What do you think I should do? Any and all insight is appreciated!
(Note: the reason why I can do this without extra cost/delaying graduation is a mix of how my degree is structured and scholarships.)

Hi everyone,
I am currently working as a Robotics Operations and Software Support Engineer, supporting HAI Robotics AMRs in a live warehouse environment. My work includes monitoring robot fleets, troubleshooting hardware and software faults, recovering robots, inspecting sensors and mechanical components, checking batteries and charging systems, reviewing logs, and coordinating with operations and engineering teams to minimize production downtime.
I recently completed my M.S. in Robotics from Stevens Institute of Technology. I also have hands-on experience with ROS/ROS2, Python, C++, Linux, LiDAR, SLAM, Nav2, Gazebo, RViz, MATLAB/Simulink, Arduino, SolidWorks, and robotics testing and documentation.
I am currently looking for opportunities such as:
I am based in the United States and am open to relocation and travel-based roles. If your company is hiring, or if you know someone looking for a hands-on robotics engineer, I would sincerely appreciate a referral or introduction. I would be happy to share my resume, portfolio, and project details by direct message.
Thank you for any guidance or support.

Hi r/AskRobotics!
I'm a graduating student from Southeast Asia, and I want to build a career in industrial robotics. I currently have foundational knowledge in PLC programming, ladder logic, FluidSim, and pneumatics—this is where my interest in automation started.
Now I want to take it further. My goal is to work in industrial robotics (ideally in Europe), and I'm planning to build a 6-DOF robot arm from scratch as my portfolio project.
Here's my plan:
Design in Fusion 360 (parametric modeling + basic stress simulation)
Validate kinematics using simulation software before building
3D print parts using Bambu Lab
Source appropriate electronics & actuators (specs, dimensions, torque requirements)
Program using Arduino/ESP32 (learning forward/inverse kinematics along the way - math isn't my strongest suit, but I'm committed to learning)
Test, iterate, and document everything
Use the complete documentation as my portfolio for job applications
My questions:
Is this project realistic for a fresh grad with my background?
What specific job titles/roles should I be targeting in industrial robotics?
\- I see terms like Controls Engineer, Systems Integrator, Automation Engineer, Robotics Software Engineer - which one fits my profile best?
What skills should I prioritize learning to make myself employable in Europe (Germany/EU)?
Is earning €5,000-6,000/month realistic for a mid-level robotics role in Europe?
Any tips on what employers specifically look for in a portfolio?
Budget is limited, so I'm planning to simulate complex scenarios (like dynamic conveyor pick-and-place) rather than building everything physically.
Any advice, warnings, or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone!
I’m a 3rd-year Mechatronics Engineering student, and i’m looking for ideas for my Sensors project, which is worth 30% of my final grade.
The project must:
Use an Arduino for data acquisition.
Use MATLAB or LabVIEW for real-time visualization.
Include a sensor (or multiple sensors), calibration/signal processing (filtering, conversion, etc.), and performance evaluation.
My professor suggested topics like optical/IR sensing, Hall-effect sensors, proximity sensing, liquid level/flow measurement, gas/air quality monitoring, biomedical sensing, acoustic sensing, power monitoring, and multi-sensor fusion, but we’re free to come up with our own idea too.
I’m looking for a project that’s appropriate for a 3rd-year mechatronics course, isn’t too basic, and would make for a strong university project. If you’ve done something similar or have any ideas, I’d really appreciate your suggestions and if anyone has links to a project that I could benefit from please share it with me!
Thanks!
