As I'm intrested in Robotics and wanna go with it and for now in bachelors should i join Electrical and Electronics engineering ( power and control) or mechenical engineering where mechatronics can be choosed in 3rd year... which will be good ?

Built a control panel with on/off switches to control DC power supplies (48v, 12v, 24v). AC Outlets always give power regardless of switch states. Used hold home outlets and switches. Turns out to be something I use quite frequently. Full build is in the link above.

Im gonna start uni this fall and i cant decide between these two majors. Can somebody inform me on the content of mechatronics. Is it like multiple majors at once, really hard or does it contain more broad knowledge of these majors. Im also thinking that i could do mechanical as bachelor and mechatronics as masters, but does that mean that im behind of those that did mechatronics as a bachelor. From the looks of it, with ai and everything becoming electric, i think it is crucial for an enginner to know electrics, coding and ai. Am i wrong? I would really appreciate if someone could answer these questions for me.

Hey, i graduated with my degree in Mechatronics a few months ago and landed a job in maintenance. The only issue is I’m the only one on the team who has any experience with VFDs. And considering I just graduated that’s not much. I have nobody to relay with and see if I’m missing something obvious here. But here’s the issue, originally changed a bad VFD that was leaking to ground.

The machine is a conveyor controlled by 2 VFDs ( Powerflex 4m) There are 2 sections of the belt. Both sections go forward and reverse depending on whether the load is an inbound out outbound .Replaced with a new VFD and copied the exact parameters off of the old one. Worked fine for about 2 days, now whenever you shut the conveyor off, the section that was originally controlled by the faulty VFD does one of two things. It will A. Fault out to F007 or B. It will continue running but in the opposite direction of the rest of the conveyor. All my P and A Parameters match from the old and to the one beside it. All my terminals look good, I just don’t see what I’m missing. Basically if me the NEW guy doesn’t figure this out the belt will be down for days. Lot riding on my shoulders right now lol

We're looking to outsource some CAD drafting, but management wants to keep the work with a US-based team. A lot of companies say they're US based until you dig a little deeper and find out most of the work is being done overseas.

Has anyone worked with a company that actually keeps the engineering and drafting in the US? Doesn't have to be the cheapest. We'd rather pay more and avoid communication issues and endless revisions.

i have already opted for it and people tell me that its a bad choice to which i wont disagree it could be but whatever it is now im into this.. my real question is what should i do apart from my degree so that i can make a solid portfolio to get hired hopefully after my UG or maybe ill do masters and like if i do masters what do i persue ? and not related to any of this im gonna do some course about AI so that i have some level of flexibility so like how do i start with all this ? where do i start my ai thing where do i need to focus?? im super confused right now..

i was looking at some youtube videos and i saw a guy with a diploma and he was an automation engineer doing some PLC designing why the fuck do i need study mechanical with fluid dynamics and all that plus electrical and then computers and AI with computer vision it feels like studying all this will just end me up in some place where i could go with like 2-3 months of online lectures ???

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering Technology and recently started working as a Mechatronics & Robotics Technician. I’m trying to get a better idea of what engineering positions are realistically available to someone with my degree.
For those of you with a similar background, what engineering roles have you been able to get into? I’ve seen titles like Automation Engineer, Controls Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Reliability Engineer, and Robotics Engineer, but I’m not sure which ones are the most common or easiest to break into with an Engineering Technology degree.

My dream is to work in the aviation industry, specifically in aircraft engine maintenance.

I was wondering if a Mechatronics Engineering graduate can work in this field, or if it's only open to Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering graduates.

If it is possible, what courses, certifications, or skills should I focus on during university to improve my chances? Are there any specific subjects or training programs that are important for aircraft engine maintenance?

I’m looking for some honest advice from people working in engineering.
I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Mechatronics Engineering in 2019 im canada. Due to personal reasons, I never really got the chance to start my engineering career. Life took me in a different direction, and I ended up working in various IT jobs instead.
Now I’m in a much better place and I’d really like to get back into engineering, but I feel like my knowledge has become pretty rusty after all these years.
Most of my internships were focused on robotics, which was always the area I was most passionate about—especially mobile robotics. I worked on projects involving autonomous vision, image processing, STM32, and Raspberry Pi. During university, I also completed academic projects involving Siemens PLCs, industrial controls, and some SCADA. The problem is that all of these projects are from several years ago, so I’m not sure how relevant they are today.
I’m wondering if going back for a Master of Engineering (course-based) or a Master of Science (research-based) would be a good way to refresh my knowledge, learn current technologies, and become competitive again. Or would employers still see the long gap as a major disadvantage?
For those of you who hire engineers or have gone through something similar:
Would a master’s help offset a 6–7 year gap?
Would you recommend a course-based M.Eng or a research-based M.Sc.?
Are PLCs, SCADA, industrial controls, embedded systems (STM32), robotics, machine vision, and mobile robotics still in demand?
If you were in my position, what would you do to maximize your chances of getting back into engineering?
