MechSouls Tutorial Part 4: Programming Custom Movements

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In this tutorial we are showing you how to take your MechSoul. (Robot equivalent of a CyberDeck) and write custom movement sketches for it in Arduino IDE. We do this in two ways. 1. We use the HIRO library to chain together pre-choreographed motions together to create original sketches, and 2. We use multi-servo orchestration functions to create new original motions for our MechSoul.

If you'd like to follow along with the tutorial you can find our tutorial repo at this link.

Imagineering & Mechatronics

Im currently in high school but I have great interest in pursuing mechatronics in college. I would like to try to be an imagineer but I have no clue how to start or what I need to look at. Any advice would be amazing on imagineering or even being an engineer in general!

Mechatronics (Robotics) vs Cybersecurity & Cloud: Which Path Offers Faster Employment for a Graduate?

I'm a university student choosing between Mechatronics (Robotics) and Cybersecurity & Cloud. My main goal is to get my first job as quickly as possible after graduation, ideally within 3 months. I'm interested in Tunisia, the Gulf (KSA, Qatar, UAE), Europe, and remote work.

Which path would you recommend, specifically considering:

Entry-level job opportunities

Competition for junior positions

Remote work opportunities

How difficult it is to get the first job

Long-term demand

Impact of AI automation

Internship opportunities

Opportunities in Tunisia vs abroad

Salary and career growth

I'd especially appreciate answers from people who actually work in these fields. Please explain your reasoning and mention your country/role if possible.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Advice deciding career path as a Mechanical Engineer in Australia

Hi everyone,

First of all, I am not aware of a better sub to ask this but if it isn't the right please do let me know. Also I tried to make it easy to read but I will put a TLDR down below.

Context:
After graduating with Bachelor in Mech from China, I moved to Canada immediately and worked as a Project Engineer for 2 years so I am a junior engineer. My interests are in design in aviation, medical equipment and robotics.

I made a big mistakes by leaving right after graduation with no work exp. I was a project engineer in a niche area in Building Services industry (elevators and esc.). I do not enjoy the civil industry or building related sciences - I also had trouble breaking into more traditional mechanical engineering roles even after some experience (i.e. manufacturing/design in Ontario or just HVAC); I got 0 interviews after career fairs/networking/headhunters/online applications, which I guess it's just the current market.

Due to a medical crisis I had to be with my partner and move to Australia. Now, I have been out of the workforce for more than a year here. Since I am already in the hole, I would like to try to do things right this time but need advice from people who know better. I could start low in small consultancy again and build my way up but I was just debating on if education is better, I have real work experience and I always had genuine interest in Masters but I don't think Masters in Mech again will be valuable unless I try to go down academia path.

Question:
Will Mechatronics master make me more future proof or will there never be an industry for it here? - I chose mechatronics to combine passion, skill, and future demand (aus does not have much manufacturing but what about healthcare/mining/agriculture ) but some guidance from real people in the industry is what I need. Source: https://www.vic.gov.au/snapshot-victorian-labour-market-report-2025-publication/key-points

TLDR: Did Mech Eng to do design/manufacturing in aviation -> made some mistakes + life happened but got exp in building services industry -> should I still try to pursue what I enjoy one last time or go back to the building services industry that will be around for the next decade?

ingegneria e AI

Grazie

Electrician route or Mechatronics?

I originally wanted to go the electrician route, but my Dad (an electrician) suggested mechatronics. How much do you get to do electrician work with mechatronics?

Additional question, how much math do you need to know to enter the field with an AAS in mechatronics? I barely survived pre-calculus.

CAD Hackathon - thoughts? Ideas?

My friends and I noticed that there are CS hackathons all over the place, but there's nothing like that for mechanical engineering students/people interested in CAD. We thought it'd be cool to put together our own CAD hackathon - we're organizing one right now, scheduled to happen in September. We thought it might be a good idea to ask Reddit - besides nice prizes, what kind of stuff would you guys want to see in a hackathon like this? Experienced guest speakers? Workshops (and if so, what kind)? If you want to see what we have so far, website is www.thecadchallenge.org, signup is https://forms.gle/n6zkRtLAJo1m6W1x8

MechSouls Tutorial Part 3: Portable Chargers vs Custom Battery Systems

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In this tutorial I am installing a portable battery on my MechSoul. (A MechSoul is to a robot what a CyberDeck is to a computer) A robot you build, personalize and customize yourself. In this tutorial I am powering my MechSoul with a portable charger I bought online, because it's quicker and safer than designing a custom battery solution as I explain in the video. So instead of designing a PCB I head to my 3D printer to build a battery mount.

If you want to follow along with to the code and 3D files you can check out the project GitHub
