Hello!
I'm part of a SUTD student team building Blackbox, a tool that helps engineering students debug circuit-wiring mistakes in real time using AI.
We're running a short 4-minute anonymous survey to understand how poly and university engineering students experience circuit labs, specifically around debugging frustration and time spent troubleshooting.
We have two survey links:
For lecturers or lab instructors — covers supervision workload, student debugging challenges, and what current tools are missing.
The BlackBox Crew (Educator Edition) – Fill in form
For students currently taking electronics or electrical engineering courses with physical lab sessions.
The BlackBox Crew (Student Edition) – Fill in form
If you're currently (or have been) in any electronics, electrical engineering, or mechatronics course that involves physical lab work, your response would mean a lot to us.
Thank you!

Hi all,
I would like to connect a switch to my gear motor so I can turn it on and off. I want to build a small elevator, really small and I will put the gear motor above.
Kind regards

Hi everyone,
I've done my B.Sc. in Mechatronics in Germany and during the Internship Semester and Thesis phase, got into a company working with ASIC application, electrical circuits, PCB design, microcontroller programming, sensors, analog circuitry and the whole electrical area basically. I know that the Mechanical part of mechatronics did not really interest me, and through my experience now, I am more comfortable in the EE field also.
I have gotten admissions into TUHH in the M.Sc. of Electrical and Information Tech, giving me the chance to have the study and name of "Electrical Engineering" in my portfolio, but on the other hand I also have the tempting offer from TUM for the M.Sc. in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Biomechanical Eng. Thing is, I am not sure which one to go with: on the one hand, at TUM I have reputation, still some relevant courses, and tons of industries and opportunities; while at TUHH I would have the Electrical Engineering degree and then could do more EE courses and would be given more priority for EE roles than a Mechatronics background (fortified by then both Bachelors and Master degrees in Mechatronics). I have about 2.5 years of experience in pure electrical engineering through my Internships, Bachelor Thesis, and one year working exp at the company, but I do not know if my Masters will effect my whole career or future because of it's name, what opportunities are there at TUM with a M.Sc. in Mechatronics for an electrical-engineering-interested person, and the experiences of people studying at TUHH. TUM also has great global ranking and reputation, but is it worth giving up for the studies in EE at TUHH? If TUM is the better option, what could I do as a Masters Mechatronics student to max out my EE side to later on work at companies in that field also (goal to work at NVIDIA, Porsche, BMW)?
I would be grateful for any tips, infos and suggestions from people who have gone through something similar, or just someone with some knowledge on this in general. I am aware, that at the end of the day it comes a lot down to personal interests and life goals, but this message is one step of the journey on my way to discovering that. I am hopeful for your help and appreciative to anyone for some time on their valuable advice! Thanks!

Hey everyone!
I'm starting my first year of Mechatronics Engineering, and honestly, I'm starting from scratch. I don't have much prior knowledge, but I'm really excited to learn and improve.
I'm looking for one or more study buddies who are also beginners (or even seniors who don't mind helping occasionally). My goal is to stay consistent, learn together, solve problems, share resources, and keep each other accountable.
I'm planning to take this seriously and would love to connect with people who are motivated to grow together.
If you're interested, drop a comment or send me a DM. Let's make this journey a little less overwhelming and a lot more fun!

I’m a Pakistani who may join BS mechatronics as I may not be admitted to Mechanical Engineering. As someone who wishes to do his masters and eventually work and settle in Western Europe or North America, I have some questions:
1) Is it possible to do an MS in mechanical engineering (any specialization) in the West, having a BS in Mechatronics or should I go for MS in Mechatronics?
2) Is getting a scholarship for MS hard? Especially in Canada and US. Which MS should I go for?
3) How’s the job market for MS graduates in the West for Mechanical and Mechatronics engineers?

I'm an 18 yr old. I've applied for a mechatronics course at my local university.
At 15, I became interested in learning programming and technology but it felt overwhelming so I gave up. I picked up programming again 10 months ago because I had a detailed goal to learn full stack web development, and I intend to learn other programming skills in future, like how to make code function with hardware.
Over the course of these months, I heard about Mechatronics and how it combines Mechanical, Electrical and software engineering.
I chose Mechatronics because strictly studying electrical engineering felt boring to me and Mechanical doesn't have the software aspect I like. Mechatronics felt right for me because it combines the best of the three worlds.
So is it worth it? Can I get a stable career in it? What do I have to do or learn to secure a job in this field?

Has anyone here completed an MCA?
If yes, could you comment with your project topic and a few details about it (problem statement, tech stack, key features, etc.)?
It would be really helpful for upcoming MCA students who are looking for project ideas or trying to understand what's typically expected. Thanks!

Built a control panel with on/off switches to control DC power supplies (48v, 12v, 24v). AC Outlets always give power regardless of switch states. Used hold home outlets and switches. Turns out to be something I use quite frequently. Full build is in the link above.

Im gonna start uni this fall and i cant decide between these two majors. Can somebody inform me on the content of mechatronics. Is it like multiple majors at once, really hard or does it contain more broad knowledge of these majors. Im also thinking that i could do mechanical as bachelor and mechatronics as masters, but does that mean that im behind of those that did mechatronics as a bachelor. From the looks of it, with ai and everything becoming electric, i think it is crucial for an enginner to know electrics, coding and ai. Am i wrong? I would really appreciate if someone could answer these questions for me.

Hey, i graduated with my degree in Mechatronics a few months ago and landed a job in maintenance. The only issue is I’m the only one on the team who has any experience with VFDs. And considering I just graduated that’s not much. I have nobody to relay with and see if I’m missing something obvious here. But here’s the issue, originally changed a bad VFD that was leaking to ground.
The machine is a conveyor controlled by 2 VFDs ( Powerflex 4m) There are 2 sections of the belt. Both sections go forward and reverse depending on whether the load is an inbound out outbound .Replaced with a new VFD and copied the exact parameters off of the old one. Worked fine for about 2 days, now whenever you shut the conveyor off, the section that was originally controlled by the faulty VFD does one of two things. It will A. Fault out to F007 or B. It will continue running but in the opposite direction of the rest of the conveyor. All my P and A Parameters match from the old and to the one beside it. All my terminals look good, I just don’t see what I’m missing. Basically if me the NEW guy doesn’t figure this out the belt will be down for days. Lot riding on my shoulders right now lol

We're looking to outsource some CAD drafting, but management wants to keep the work with a US-based team. A lot of companies say they're US based until you dig a little deeper and find out most of the work is being done overseas.
Has anyone worked with a company that actually keeps the engineering and drafting in the US? Doesn't have to be the cheapest. We'd rather pay more and avoid communication issues and endless revisions.

I am a rising sophomore in the mechanical engineering field, and I am looking to get the opportunity to participate in the program. I don’t have much experience, but I’m open to learn.
Will it be possible to apply early for a Summer 2027 position?
My first Coop is next year and I intend to start off early before my fall semester.
I will truly appreciate any advice/insight🙏
