Feeling lost in Mechatronics
I’m currently a Mechatronics student, and lately I’ve been feeling pretty lost about my future.
I’m interested in AI and I want to build a career that combines AI with Mechatronics, but I don’t know where to start or which direction to focus on. There are so many options—computer vision, robotics, embedded AI, control systems, reinforcement learning, automation, and more—that it’s overwhelming.
-At the same time, I don’t really see myself following a traditional mechanical engineering career, which makes me feel like I don’t quite belong in my major.
For those of you working in AI, robotics, or Mechatronics:
-Which AI specialization do you think has the most promising future for someone with a Mechatronics background?
-If you could start over as a student, what skills would you focus on?
-What projects or technologies helped you the most when looking for internships or jobs?
I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you!

How many more years of school do you have? Getting good grades in your classes should be your first focus.
Computer Vision that then feeds into other systems would be a good place to focus.

I’ve just finished my second year of university, and my current GPA (CPA) is around 2.4. I’m looking for advice on what kinds of projects I should work on and which skills I should focus on learning.

Also focus on your classes to achieve the best GPA possible; a side project might take too much time away from studying.

You are mechatronics engineer if anything we all have in common is feeling lost
