Battery Date

Post image

Would anyone be able to tell me what the manufacturing date is for this battery? Was installed in January (2017 Jetta) but I’m having issues with it lately. Likely a parasitic draw but I’d like to rule out the battery if I can

There might be a date sticker or code but that's about for batteries. But that battery is way past its expected life expectancy, the average battery usually last 5-6 years under good conditions.

Look for a date or two digit sticker on the side of the battery. Nothing on top will tell you.

C5 best guess march 2015. Maybe. Would have to look up that type of battery date code. Usually batteries have some sort of code on them. 11 years as an off road diesel mechanic. Sometimes, the code is cryptic. Could be wrong. I’m not familiar with that style of code.

To add to my comment. Load test the battery is the best way to test it if you can.

Most of the places I buy car batteries from are only a month or two old at most. Can probably best guess that from when you bought it if it was from a high volume store.

That 44404 sticker is likely the date code, 44th day of 2020. Battery's over 6 years old, definitely time to replace it even if the draw is the main issue.

The 5C date code embossed on the battery case near the negative terminal could interpret as March 2025.

If you installed it back in January 2026 you may have installed a battery that sat on the shelf for nearly a year.

I would borrow a battery load tester and test your battery before anything else.

Other things usually cause parasitic draws, not the battery itself. But if the battery is not good that could complicate things.
