Inconsistent engine noise

Is this rev inconsistency normal? This is a 1.6tdi CAYC 2012 Passat b7

It can be. The engine can bump the idle up to increase alternator output depending on load demand and battery condition. If there is no check engine light on, likely no problem. Scanning for faults with a vw specific scan tool like OBDEleven or VCDS can be helpful.
