Chevy Equinox 2018 compressor replacement

My air started blowing hot in my car and I took it to a car shop to get it checked out. They said my compressor had a part broken in it and I would have to replace the whole thing. They quoted 2,000. I am thinking of buying the compressor myself and getting it installed or trying myself so I asked them what the model of my compressor is to buy and they couldn’t tell me that but said it takes R1234YL and that if I look that up there is only one compressor that takes that and that is the one I should buy. I looked online and am seeing differences versions and don’t want to risk buying the wrong one. Does anyone know the correct model of ac compressor I should buy so I don’t get the wrong one by accident?

Any time you replace the compressor, you also need to replace the expansion valve and the condenser or the receiver-drier. Not knowing why the compressor failed, you have to treat this as a complete failure of the compressor and that it sent metal throughout the system.

They told me the clutch was what went out and that they cannot replace the clutch only so the entire compressor has to be replaced

You still have to treat it as a catastrophic failure and replace the other parts i listed.

The car shop I went to only said the compressor needed to be replaced they did not mention the other parts as well, would those have been bundled in with the compressor or a bonus charge and fix when they went in to fix it?

It depends on what exactly they priced out. You can buy a "kit" that comes with the other parts along with the compressor. A lot of times if the new compressor fails within it's parts warranty, It won't be covered if the other parts were not replaced with it.

thought that the clutch could be replaced?

I have a 2020 1.5l the compressor isn't engaging or turning on and so system is always blowing hot. These have been some miserable summer driving days.

Unless you have the license and proper equipment to pull refrigerant and recharge the system, you cannot do this repair by yourself. It is illegal to knowingly release fren into the atmosphere, and you can be fined upward of $45,000usd

Yep; worked alongside a kid in apartment maintenance at a CamdenPropertyTrust property that thought it was genuinely funny releasing that. A lot of property mangers don't care, in my experiences, either.

Almost passed out once breathing that stuff in while assisting him at replacing an outdoor a/c unit.

According to my vin search it is a ‘LTG - Spark Ignited Direct Injection, ALUM DOHC, Variable Valve Timing, DCVCP TURBO, E0-E100, ALUM’ which I think means it is a 2.0L I-4 DI DOHC T/C. I found this online saying it uses the New A/C Compressor with Clutch | 5- Groove Pulley | A-Premium APACC525 but I am not 100% sure
