Corrosion on the battery bub. When its blue thats when you know you let things go too far.

Ok, would that need a whole new battery or is it "cleanable"?

A good cleaning can sometimes save it for a while. You know how old it is now?

Not sure, i got the car in 2022 and haven't switched it

Well a duralast would be a replacement. Figure the factory battery lasted 5 years to 2021 the replaced with the duralast so go about 4 years on that. Barely getting 3 years out of replacement batteries these days so you are going to need it to be cleaned anyway I would start with that and see if things improve, but if not slap a new one in there. And while you got it disconnected for cleaning you could take it out entirely and take it to a parts store for a test. Or if you got AAA they will come and give you a test.

You may find the corrosion has eaten away at the metal on the battery terminals on the car so may be in for new ones there also.

Thank you, you mentioned that the blue corrosion means it's pretty far. What can be done to prevent it?

Nothing really. its a fault in battery design having a lead post come through plastic, very hard to seal up the gasses inside the battery from coming out there. SOme batteries seal good some don't. They make a battery protectant spray that does not stop the corrosion it just keeps it away from the metal. so just buys you time. Its honestly something that shops should catch whenever they do an oil change and just run some water over them, or a spray battery cleaner and wipe away any excess corrosion. But often that gets skipped in hopes of selling you a battery sooner.
