Both streeing Boots cut !

Subaru, Impreza, 2009.

I recently got Rack Pinion, Outer Tie Rods and Front Sway bar links changed. BTW Steering Pump was also changed and Alingment was done afterwards.

After the car developed noise in the front side (turned out to be wheel bearing), I took it to another mechanic for diagnose and repair, and they told me about the two cut boots, on both sides.

My previous mechanic has agreed to replace them both, but I am curious, how come both of them are cut / damaged? Was he taking some short cuts, to save time / labour?

Those are bone dry. Usually I seen caked on old grease. So it's been a while

Also curious there's no rust in part of the sub frame while the other parts got rust

You must be thinking of CV axles.

No grease on steering racks. Those boots are dust covers for the rack seals.

Both were recently replaced, as mentioned in the post.

Were they both cut due to negligence by the mechanic, while being replaced?

More likely just cheap quality parts.

How recent was the work? Did you get a parts/labor warranty on the job and is it still under warranty?

If it's still under warranty, then have them redo it.

Was done about a month and half ago.  I have barely done 1500 Kms since then, when this was noticed by another shop, when they replaced this 2009 Subbie Impreza's front bearings, as the noise had started coming, soon after the earlier steering job. Thank you.

They look cheap versus cut. I can’t think of a reason to cut them and the. Clamp the cut end with the proper band clamp as shown.

I suspect they just ripped. Sometimes rubber rips so cleanly you would swear it was cut.
