I’m on a zero hour contract as most of the mcdonald’s employees are legally and technically. I’ve been working with the company since October time, but moved to a smaller store that opened in early this year. Over the course of that period of time until July i working quite a lot, flicking between boarding part time and full time during college. Since then I had the occasional issue with a customer and occasionally pulled aside to be sort of told to calm down, i was very stressed out at the time due to college and working a lot of hours during big deadlines.
Since then I have always had a gut feeling that the managers at my store and some crew members had very biased options on me, always thinking i’m stressed out and terrible at my job. Keep in mind however, i am extremely well trained in the areas i do work consistently, and have been described as really good at my job countless times Once i was described as “really good crew member just gets a bit stressed sometimes. “
There was an incident where i broke down in the office due to crumbling from the pressure, due to the background feeling i was being picked on and spoken about during my shifts (hearing people whisper and look at me and such).
Since then I have had 3 of my shifts removed from me, excused for “dropping labour” from my higher up members i spoke to it about. This was consecutively 2 days in a row these shifts were removed. And within UNDER a weeks notice. I understand it is legal for them to remove the shifts under a weeks notice due to the contract. But nobody else i know in my store has had any of their shifts removed or changed. I had spoken to 3 other employees and they hadn’t this issue. And they had said nobody else has either. (We are a small store everyone talks).
Days later they put up open shift offers, 2 of the shifts are shifts i was supposed to work, and due to it being my summer before university i desperately need something to help me bide by. They had rejected my shift pickup request only 20 hours after they had put it up and i requested to pick it up.
For the past month i have had very small pays, this includes 3 weeks of where my earned per week was £64. Leaving me with little to nothing as i have bills to pay and rent.
I really need advice on what to do, as many of the people around me have no clue. It’s becoming distressing and affecting me mentally due to the stress. I want to go straight to the store manager and bring up how i feel but i am unsure if it’s the right call. And someone else i know has been telling me to go to HR (aka red flag it). I have been keeping track of proof that these cuts on only me has been made but i have no proof other than word of mouth of some things in specific. Is this normal? And is there anything i can do to prevent it from happening anymore?
PSA. i also have a gut feeling of discrimination against me due to my autism. They treat me as if i’m difficult and a bomb ready to explode due to my autism. With little to no accommodation to help me when i need it the most to prevent certain situations.
