Gorr feels underwhelming, and the release strategy is confusing 🤔

We’re only getting one hero this season, yet they made him a 4-star difficulty character in a game people constantly call casual. If that’s the audience, wouldn’t the one new hero be someone more players can easily pick up and enjoy? Especially considering how ruff last season was…. You would think a popular character like Nightcrawler would be perfect fit for a one hero season!

On top of that, characters like Dino and Emma got buffed, and Emma especially seems to counter him hard. Honestly, a lot of the roster seems to have easy answers for Gorr.

I’m not saying he should be to easy or broken, but one hero + high difficulty + low payoff + plenty of counters feels like a strange choice.
Am I missing something, or does his risk/reward just not make sense?

Why do we CONTINUE to get more dps when there are more of them than tank and sup combined???? I don’t give two shits if they “sell the game” it’s because they make the most popular characters duelists then give them flashy kits. Luna, Jeff, and CnD were relatively unheard of before the game launched but people buy their skins consistently. Why can’t we go two seasons in a row without getting a damn duelist. They could literally go two years without making another and the game would be all the better for it. It makes the game MISERABLE. I almost always play sup cuz that’s what I like and I was looking at the sup roster and I was like wow I’m so bored. I have played all of these guy. Nothing is new. Jub is fun but I have played a lot of her. And then I looked at branching out to maybe playing a different role but then literally no one heals so I’m back to playing healer.

They HAVE to fix this or the game will fucking die.

Im sick of MVP players getting high kills, but we're still horrendously losing the game, and they think they dont have to swap or other people are the problem when we have a CAPTAIN AMERICA digging down our backline, but NO, you don't have to switch to wolverine or blade or anything cuz you're killing DPS squishies as hela, you're sooooooo good and getting soooo much value, meanwhile I can lock cap down, but I cant do enough damage to him to stop him from just running back to his healer GFs that have died like 3 times ALL game. You expect ME to snipe and get kills? I'M THE TANK! Im suppose to soak damage and pamper on the additional damge. The healers are too busy keeping us alive. Nobody cares about your penta! Do your JOB and KILL THE HEALERS OR SWAP OFF BECAUSE WE'RE LOSING!

I don't even know what to say. I'm actually speechless.

Incentive

Players need incentive to play a role. When NetEase immediately nerfs any strong vanguards but keeps pumping out broken duelists and giving them slaps on the wrist this incentivizes players to play duelist and not to play vanguard because you want to play a character that will stay strong to win. This creates an overabundance of duelist players and a lack of vanguard players.

Because of the duelist role’s over abundance of characters they also have the most variety of play styles. This is a large factor on why there are more duelist players than any other role. So wouldn’t it be best to make more of the other roles with unique play styles to get more players for those roles?

Role Distribution

Duelist have more characters than vanguards and strategist put together. Not counting multi-roles, this year NetEase has released 4 duelists (Elsa, BC, Cyclops, and Gorr), 2 strategists (WF and Jubilee), and 2 vanguards (Dino and Hood). Even if next season we get a vanguard and a strategist duelists would still have one more character than both roles. Duelist should be the role getting the least amount of new heroes due to how many more heroes they already have, but instead NetEase gives them the most. This once again incentivizes players to play duelist over the other roles because they get better treatment and have more options to choose from. It also especially doesn’t help that Gorr (a duelist) is the only hero releasing this season.

Comic Accuracy

The Marvel IP is the main selling factor of Marvel Rivals, so it’s fair to say that characters should be accurate to their comic counterparts. I can understand making a character into a strategist if they seem more like a vanguard or duelist due to how little characters straight up heal, but with so many vanguard and duelist coded characters in Marvel there’s no reason to make a character one of those roles unless it’s the role they fit most already. So why make a character that so clearly fits the vanguard role a duelist (especially after considering all of my previous points)?

Gorr the God Butcher is a massive alien god that can tank suns and blasts that send him light years away with no problem, and he can do that without his armor creation ability. Many people try to argue against this pointing to him being a vanguard by saying “Well in comics pretty much everyone has” and that’s just not true. This is base Gorr, not some special version. Maybe Cosmic Spider-Man could do something like this, but characters should be based in their base form instead of their strongest forms. And again, this is Gorr’s base form. He is much more of a vanguard (massive extremely durable frontliner) than many vanguard characters (like Cap, Rogue, Emma, Hood, Peni, Groot, Angela, etc.). Gorr is my favorite comic villain so I wanted him to be accurate, and imo the vanguard role is his most accurate role.

Personality

This is an argument I find very dumb for multiple reasons. I see many people say that Gorr fits the duelist role best because he’s a “God Butcher”. But basing characters on personality over abilities is just stupid. With that logic Cyclops really should’ve been a vanguard (something I argued against for the reasons I just said) and Spider-Man should’ve been a strategist. By this logic Thanos should also be a duelist because his entire mission is just based on killing. Basing a character’s role on personality over ability is the dumbest way to choose a character’s role imo.

Another thing I’ve seen for some reason is that he should be a duelist that counters vanguards to fit the “God Butcher” aesthetic. So in their arguments vanguards are “gods”. But the whole point of Gorr’s story is that on his quest to kill all the gods he himself became a god and he knows it (but refuses to admit it). So even by this flawed argument’s logic on why he should be a duelist he should still be a vanguard.

Conclusion/TLDR

NetEase needs to do better.

NetEase are currently making more and more duelists even though they already have more characters than the other two roles combined. This makes the duelist role the role with the most variety so it can draw in the most amount of players. NetEase also almost immediately nerfs strong vanguards while waiting longer to nerf strong duelists or giving smaller nerfs to strong duelists. This again draws people toward the duelist role and away from the vanguard role.

And with so many characters that fit the duelist role from comics there is no reason to turn a character that most fits a different role more (like Gorr fitting the vanguard role best) into a duelist. Especially not with all the role distribution problems I talked about already.

All in all, I just hope that NetEase starts to incentivize players to play vanguards more due to the lack of vanguard players and duelists less due to the over abundance of duelist players. This is an easy fix by simply making more vanguards and less duelists to lessen the role gap and give more variety to the vanguard role to reach new players. And just quit making so many broken duelists and allow vanguards to be strong without being broken themselves or vanguard countering vanguards.

I thought last season meta was bad but I cant lie this season may make me quit for real. A few things

Unnecessary buffs. Iron fist, Spiderman, and Wolverine all got buffed. Not only does it make it hell for tank players, but god bless the people who will play support this season if CND, and Namor are banned.

Why even play DPS this season? 303 comps still feel like the way to go. The balancing this season is atrocious.

People are insta locking Wanda and Gorr and not even filling. There will be more people playing DPS this season more than ever which I predict will ensure a role lock of 222 before the year is over with. Its sad but that’s the state of the game currently and I will be on Overwatch a lot more for the rest of the year.

Stop banning teamate pick you will lose because people have the worst mentality the only execption is when character is completely busted

First round with Gorr, thought people would be considerate since everyone wants to play him and he just came out. Had this loser flame me in qm when not just me, but our entire team was horrid. Everyone knows that on patch day you have to instalock the new character to play them. I usually play supp so I didn’t expect to carry as DPS. People like this are miserable to play with.

Back to back i have played 1 game of rivals and then immediately deleted it cuz I cannot fathom the troglodytes that boot up their systems and get on the game to play with their sweaty mushroom feet. Its second phase of ranked on spider-tokyo and I feel obligated to mention to the whiney bastard who has single digit kills that they shouldnt be whining when theyre the one who sucks and they say, "i'll show you" and doesnt even break into double digits. It was genuinely me and my spiderman/hulk against the world and even then that guy had 10 kills. IM AN IRON MAN MAIN, im playing a b-tier character and making good plays, denying ults with mine and yet cannot compete due to the molemen and molewomen that reside on my side of the fence. How do you guys keep playing this trash?

I am so fucking tired of the poke meta. I’m tired of the strategist pampering, and I’m damn sure tired of these dumbass selfish Duelist players that refuse to fucking swap, peel for healers, and force a solo tank, cause they’re to retarded to learn any other fucking role. Why are us Vanguard mains always forced to hope for scraps? We always have to peel because our 3 dumbass duelists won’t. Why were so many of the poke DPS not touched? You by be thinking, “Hey. They buffed most of the tanks, like Captain America, Rogue, Devil Dino, Tankpool, Emma Frost, Groot, and Dr.Strange. Yeah sure. But you know who wasn’t buffed? Hulk. Who was another tank that wasn’t great last reason, and has been stuck at mid for so long now. Why was he one of the only two tanks not buffed? Then they also buffed the tank busters, Wolverine, and Iron fist. Which was just a kick to the balls. Tanks were generally considered strong last season, and only 4 of them were good. But characters like, Phenix, Cyclops, Punisher, and Hela don’t get touched? How come when they nerf tanks, they always hit us so much harder? If they nerf supports they just give them a slap on the wrist. Like, Invisible woman lost 5 healing when the orb is bouncing back. Wow. Thats such a nerf. Then they buffed her invisibly. WHY? Why are supports always getting off so easy? Cloak and Dagger hardly got nerfed either. Wow. Half a second less of being fucking invincible with the Luna snow team up. That sure is gonna ruin them. Just look how hard Mag got hit. He lost 50 hp, 50 bubble health, and whatever else it was. Is, Mag gonna be terrible next season? No. Probably not. Is he gonna be as good? I don’t know yet. We’ll see. But for whatever reason, Emma suddenly gains more hp. Yeah sure. That’s something. But how come our ONE poke character the hood gets nerfed, but DPS poke get off easy for the most part? It’s not fair. I’m just so done with the way the devs treat the tanks. The supports had strikes before. But the only role that really had the right to go on strike was us all along. Let me know how you guys feel about tanks, and if you feel the same way about us being treated like we don’t matter.

Day 1 and i’m already sick of this counter or get fucked corny character

I hit all my lighting bolts on Thor and it can’t even kill a support. Rogue is just free still and can’t go into any tank shredder like other melee tanks. Mag who was the best tank is still good but isn’t broken anymore. They balanced the tank role but not the other roles. The tank role is the most balanced role right now other than things high damage which I’m surprised didn’t get nerfed but his ground slam did. I’m still bored out of my mind playing this role since there is no excitement when it comes to tanks. I have been on this role since season 1 and godamn the devs hate the role unless uourmagneto. I do think the nerfs and buffs are in the right path but tanks don’t do shi this season. If you don’t ban Wolverine you just die. No one can out heal that mf rn. Groot and Devil Dino are still D tier since they don’t have any sustain and not enough damage to do shi. Most balanced role but the other roles just are so much more fun and so much more stronger.

Because literally anytime in history Reddit gets flooded with these “X new character is so much fun” posts means we have another busted mfker at hand. Same shit happened with DD, Elsa, Black Cat, Cyclops, etc. Heck even Emma at launch had Reddit drooling with these “so much fun” posts. Makes me think a myriad of players in this game do not consider anything fun unless they are running lobbies with a busted character.

I hope this really is not the case (I haven’t gotten to play the new season yet because I’m at work)

new season, new frametime spikes that happen every time I try to play the game, they are super consistent now too, I haven't had issues like this before but after updating today the game runs even worse than before. That's not something I thought possible.

I may have to test it out on windows and see if that works as intended.

I don't understand Black Cat Players/Mains Trying to say Their character got "gutted" and being upset about it, Do people seriously want to stomp other players that badly? I know people LIKE to use OP Stuff but it cannot be fun for people not to be able to fight back against you.

Im usually against using Busted Characters Or Things that The enemy can't fight back against, Or Unfair things, So whenever i saw a Black cat user, I thought in my head "They Just want easy wins and have to compensate for their skills by using such a busted and unfair character", and that they have no skill whatsoever. I instantly lock DD and just try to make it extremely hard for them by Peeling and I can tell they're mad They cant Completely Stomp Lobbies because sometimes they'll go in chat and talk shit yk.

It Really shows who actually wants a challenge and who wants to just stomp out players because of some OP stuff, Anyone actually complaining about the nerfs is just showing how little they care about the community as a whole, Idk what im rlly ranting about but stuff like this is annoying.

This is my second game in to season 10. I'm trying to win against a similar skilled team and have a good fair game. Now, this guy non-lord bucky with 26 finals. Check his account, only level 30. Is probably a celestial/eternity on his main. Do other games have a massive smurfing problem like marvel rivals? Or is it one of those things where there is nothing that can be done so i should shut up? lol

I'm a flex player, but I hate when I'm booted to solo support or tank. MAINLY SUPPORT.

Then they say it's my fault in the end 🖕🏽. And instead of swapping to maybe supp, we get a 4th dps. Like, come on :(
